EAS Testing

So, apparently 11pm is now when they are testing EAS push alerts to phones?

Was a rude awakening for sure for me. My first thought when I saw what it was also was someone must have messed up.

Mine was weird because it didn't sounds until 11:37pm, a half hour after most people...

Yeah. I had my phone on silent mode, and about six blaring alarms came through my phone-full volume-at 11pm..

I was thinking “what the F”. It was quite disturbing…

I disabled the alert tone on my phone. Glad I did because I had my ear buds in at the time.

NSP says don't disable EAS alerts

Too late, I did that when I got the new phones.

My phone was on my nightstand and I never heard anything. I did see a liner note this morning that it had been triggered last evening, but it didn’t actually make enough noise for me to notice. And I’m not a heavy sleeper. I think I disabled the Amber Alert notices some time ago, as I do not give a rat’s behind about something happening in Scottsbluff when I am sitting at dinner or in a movie theater in Omaha.

My phone was apparently configured to not receive EAS test messages, so I didn't get it. I don't know if this is true for all Android devices, but for those on Samsung, go into your text messaging app > three dots in the upper right > Settings > Emergency alert settings. You can switch off whatever you want except the presidential ones.

If you’re an iPhone person, like myself, you heard the alert loud and clear- even when your phone was on silent mode
