Nice, that would be about the Omaha World Herald building then.Doctor Fate wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2020 4:52 amAt least 200 ft for sure, especially with the first 4 levels being parking. And at that 11th and Harney location, it would be a skyline changer depending on where you're looking from.Louie wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2020 4:14 pmNice, that would be about the Omaha World Herald building then.Doctor Fate wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2020 4:52 amAt least 200 ft for sure, especially with the first 4 levels being parking. Site work is once again in progress at the OM diner location. No idea if this will still be "The Moxy"

Tried the Google. I can't find any real updates from 2018 for the site. So Moxy I believe it still is. 6 stories of Brick facade boutique hotel.ItsAllAboutMe wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 9:03 pm Site work is once again in progress at the OM diner location. No idea if this will still be "The Moxy"

I guess you never know until the sign goes up. That said, one of the subs called with some questions last week, they were still calling it Moxy.ItsAllAboutMe wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 9:03 pm Site work is once again in progress at the OM diner location. No idea if this will still be "The Moxy"

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
I asked someone involved with this project, and it indeed is still the Moxy, however the opening date is 2022, 2023 ish (I forget exactly). The plan is to do grading, foundation work, etc, until the price of lumber comes down.

Wow- 4-5 years after the Moxy plan was introduced, it seems like Moxy is still the plan..
Perhaps they should update the name of this hospitality spot to “Moxy Forever” or “Forever Moxy”..
Something to that effect…

With such a huge gap between announcement, and actually starting construction. A lot has changed in Omaha. I wonder if adding a floor or two has crossed the drawing boards at Moxy.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 11:56 pm Wow- 4-5 years after the Moxy plan was introduced, it seems like Moxy is still the plan..

It has. There was a brief discussion on this issue in page 2. The owners were contemplating an 8 story building, but knocked it down a couple floors for height restriction issues.Athomsfere wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 12:58 pmWith such a huge gap between announcement, and actually starting construction. 75ft for the old market? Is the average height of most the OM or a random number?ita wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 2:47 pmIt has. There was a brief discussion on this issue in page 2. Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
Its funny, seemed like a lot of people had given up on this, but at work it seemed like it was moving forward almost the whole time. There were a few quiet periods, but nothing too long. There are a lot of items to coordinate doing new construction in the old market. Lots of utilities have been burred under those streets and alleys in the past 100 years.Linkin5 wrote: Mon Oct 04, 2021 1:03 am Didn’t think this one would actually happen thank you for the update!

I had pretty much forgotten about this project. Great to see it moving along again. Will really help with density and another hotel option. I’m not real familiar with this hotel brand.

Really excited to see this progressing....it was announced about 4 years ago and there was speculation about the sale of the lot up to 15 years ago.

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
I know the former owners of the Diner, which sat on this location until demoed a few years back. They wished they could have had a few more years of operation, rather than have the property sit empty and unused, but now they are happy and living the dream in my adopted home town of Puerto Vallarta.

I can't wait to see the elevator shafts, and this get topped off. It's a fairly important feeling development for the OM.

It’s possible the hotel could open late next year, I am guessing.

These hotels are really fun. I'm assuming they will have a bar and restaurant on the first floor and some outdoor space.

I doubt there’s room for outdoor space on that lot but hopefully a bar, maybe a restaurant.OracleOfOmaha wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:17 pm These hotels are really fun. I'm assuming they will have a bar and restaurant on the first floor and some outdoor space.

If I remember right, there isn't a front desk, you actually check in at the Bar.jjjjhskr wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 9:25 pmI doubt there’s room for outdoor space on that lot but hopefully a bar, maybe a restaurant.OracleOfOmaha wrote: Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:17 pm These hotels are really fun. EDIT - You do check-in at the bar:

Man, the people on that Facebook page really liked having that parking lot and closed diner there instead.

Yeah, they are the same ones that when downtown projects are announce like the Steelhouse or Kiewit Luminarium will immediately ask, "where are we going to park?"TitosBuritoBarn wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:30 pm Man, the people on that Facebook page really liked having that parking lot and closed diner there instead.

Setbacks? Never heard of 'em. Seriously though, we need more infill like this replacing surface lots in downtown.

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
I’d heard this the first time I moved here years ago, but I never could figure out why. I tried, I ate there two or three times. Personally I didn’t think the food or the experience was anything special and I just stopped going. I did like the look of the diner from the outside though. Still, getting rid of it to develop something potentially more useful is far better.Greg S wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 4:22 pmI do think the diner was quite popular and had been there for quite some time.ita wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 4:21 pmYeah, they are the same ones that when downtown projects are announce like the Steelhouse or Kiewit Luminarium will immediately ask, "where are we going to park?"TitosBuritoBarn wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:30 pm Man, the people on that Facebook page really liked having that parking lot and closed diner there instead.
