Still not snowing at 9am. This might not be as bad as we thought. Possibly only a few inches or it could get going and dump a quick 3-4. Either way it’s gonna be a light fluffy snow. The cold wind might be the biggest problem with this storm.

Yep, dry air is killing off the snow in our area. Definitely only going to get around 3” of snow now…

Getting close to 11 and I'm still seeing the Omadome, although it's starting to get overpowered now.

Finally in the last half hour or so it has begun. Very fine and dry stuff. Hard to see how that's gonna amount to much accumulation.

Agreed…even less now. I’m thinking we may barely end up with 1.5 inches of snow. Definitely a bust locally either way. I’m okay with that though…

So am I , an inch and a half should do it. The extreme cold is probably the biggest thing about this storm, the snow just never got going much.

Yeah, this is just enough to satiate me. My first thought when I looked outside when snow finally accumulated was "this is beautiful!" At least I probably wont have to shovel as it is light, dry, and not much. It'll probably just blow off. But yeah, I would call this a bust.

Yeah, I’m okay with it busting. I tested positive for Covid yesterday and I’m pretty weak from it today. Shoveling snow (I don’t own a snowblower) would not have been easy if we ended up with a lot. I probably won’t even mess with shoveling this…

So in the end, I did end up doing some snow clearing, and it turned out a bit more than it looked. I just took a push broom out, and I was able to do it that way, but it was tough. I'd say about 2".

I’m totally okay with the predicted snow totals busting. The less frozen precipitation the better. From what I estimated, as I scooped a bit yesterday afternoon, was probably right at 1.5 inches in my area of west Omaha..

Sorry you tested positive for Covid. I contracted it last year around this time and it was no picnic. Take care…

I checked my driveway cam after sun-up on New Years morning and could still see grass in my and the neighbor’s yard. My back patio was 50% bare concrete.
Another much ado of nothing, super over hyped by most of the TV media. It just gets old.

Perhaps you should learn to forecast for yourself? Then you’d see how insanely difficult it can be and how the weather sometimes is simply unpredictable instead of whining about how it was “overhyped” by the media. Just a thought.

Haha, I think they're only right half the time, but it's much better having some sort of idea what to expect than sticking your thumb up your as and holding it up in the air.

I’m not saying the forecasts from the media are great with accuracy (hence part of the reason I taught myself - that and storm chasing) but the watches and warnings come from the NWS not the media and definitely were warranted based on all the data available (aka not over-hyped). Did things unfold as expected? Nope. Dry air hung on for way longer than expected. But people whining and acting like they somehow could do better gets REALLY old.

And in the end it was only just short of the 3-6" they were talking about. And I definitely think the winter storm warning was warranted. The storm only just missed.

A clipper system is possible in parts of our area this coming Wednesday with several inches of snow possible. ECMWF shows it hitting Omaha, GFS shows it missing us to the southwest. Something to keep an eye on anyway…

If it weren't for the snow, you could still dam near get some golf in tomorrow and Tuesday. 36 and 40 for highs, which is still above normal.

BTW the NWS Eppley officially reporting 2.6" of snow.

Haha, Bill must be reading this thread. It looks like the 14 day forecast is mostly above normal, and Julie said something along the lines of "That will be great after these next few days", and Bill said "For some... Some people like the cold weather". I know I'm definitely the minority on that, but thanks Bill

Nothing on the long-range models giving much hope for a snowstorm in Omaha anytime soon.

Actually, it looks like a pretty good warm-up again in about a week with temps approaching 50 in or just south of Omaha (based on the 12z ECMWF anyway) with a strong ridge setting up in the central and western United States. This "could" lead to several days (possibly more than a week) of relatively warm temps for our area.

The wind on tuesday evening was nasty, with some gust at my house probably 45-50 mph. I just don’t recall getting all these mini wind storms in the past like we have been getting lately. Not much snow so far this winter, I’m fine with that.

Starting this coming Tuesday will see highs in the 40s and 50s for several days with Thursday, in particular, looking warm/pleasant. Still, nothing showing up on the long-range showing much for snow potential for our area.

Definitely going to enjoy highs close to-or in the 50’s for a few days or so..taking advantage of January patio weather..the days are also starting to get noticeably getting longer, so it’s a win-win…

Some minor snow accumulations are possible in our area this Friday/early Saturday as a clipper system drops into our area.

Most of the snow will pass east of us but the ECMWF has been trending west on recent model runs so if that verifies (which it may or may not) our area would be hit (barely) by this storm. Probably a dusting up to 2 inches of snow locally but possibly over 6 inches of snow from much of MN into parts of the eastern half of IA. Still lots of uncertainty but something to keep an eye on…

Odds continue to increase that Omaha will get accumulating snow this Friday/early Saturday as models continue to trend further west with the storm track with a clipper system expected to drop into our area.

The 00z ECMWF is particularly aggressive bringing the area of heavier snow (possibly 6” of snow or more) into the Omaha area. While I don’t buy this happening “yet”, it’s something that needs to be watched closely with upcoming model runs to see if there is any model agreement or run to run consistency. If there is, odds will quickly increase.

I realize the NWS currently only has a 40% chance of a rain/snow mix and depending on track, there “might” be precipitation type issues in our area but right now things are trending more and more toward at least some accumulating snow in our area.

Don’t be surprised if the NWS and local media forecasts quickly start becoming more “aggressive” for our area. Enough so that winter storm watches may be needed once storm track is more certain. Does any of this mean Omaha will for sure be hit? Nope, impossible to know for sure at this point. Just something that needs to be watched closely…

12z model runs are in and the ECMWF and GFS have continued the western trend bringing heavier snow into Omaha Friday/early Saturday.

Chances are definitely increasing that Omaha will get several inches of snow and possibly over 6” of snow depending on how things play out.

Assuming model trends continue, I’d expect winter storm watches to be issued probably tomorrow for parts our area…

KETV this evening keeps saying it’s too far out yet to predict any snow totals for Friday,,

In fact, they seem to be downplaying the possibility a bit..My preference, of course, is we get nothing..

Seems like every so often they will get a storm wrong and it will be way worse than they thought. They will call for 1-2 inches and we end up with 6, maybe this will be that storm. You just never know with Nebraska weather. We are kind of due for some measurable snow.

It just really seems difficult to predict these winter storms especially..

Their storm tracks seem to shift more variably than spring or severe weather type storms..I’m no expert..but I think the local meteorologists here in the metro do a really solid job predicting the high impact weather. I have grown to appreciate how truly difficult but fascinating predicting and watching weather really is…

And to be fair, they have never wanted to give snow totals before a couple days out. I'm in my 40's have been watching the weather since I was old enough to know what a forecast was, and they have never been in a rush to forecast snow totals.
