Re: Nebraska Examiner
Looks promising. Considering how much the World Herald has cut back, any new source of news information is welcome.

I dunno, being formed of former OWH employees is not much of a point of merit

Re: Nebraska Examiner
This is something I’d been hoping for. Cate Folsom’s “Welcome” article outlines their mission statement, and it’s a great addition to local and state news coverage. Most of the journalists have ‘investigative’ experience. If the first issue is any indication, I’ll be a regular reader. This looks like real journalism, not ‘info-tainment’. I guess we’ll see what happens. I’m hoping they’re successful.

Re: Nebraska Examiner
For years I've thought that NFM was okay with a super ugly building, because it's the only game in town, and they didn't really need to do anything about it. The article in Nebraska Examiner about this topic was so, so informative. I had no idea that NFM wanted to make its building nicer, but a city ordinance won't let them.
And the article about absurd alcohol distribution laws was really interesting, too.
This publication has definitely got my attention.

If they are right about the announcement of Mutual moving downtown, and the streetcar, and they broke the story, it would be a big coup for the Examiner.

Drop a great Nebraska Furniture Mart article in the morning, get everyone paying attention and then the first night drop the Big News! Great first day for them.Padre wrote: Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:53 pm If they are right about the announcement of Mutual moving downtown, and the streetcar, and they broke the story, it would be a big coup for the Examiner.

Yeah I was definitely reeled in with the furniture mart article. These are two big real estate scoops that went completely unnoticed.Brad wrote: Tue Jan 25, 2022 10:02 pmDrop a great Nebraska Furniture Mart article in the morning, get everyone paying attention and then the first night drop the Big News! So...
I wonder now if they did this because they kept sleuthing these stories that the WH wouldn't publish for political reasons?

Re: Nebraska Examiner
They definitely seem to have a few stories stacked up for the first couple days. Great way to make an entrance and to have me checking their website daily for sure. We'll see what their coverage looks like the coming months. I wonder how this will affect Matthew Hansen's Flatwater Press.

If I had to make a guess I'd say it's going to be left-leaning if for no other reason than the main categories across the top of the site are, essentially: Politics, Environment, Labor, Social Services, and Education.

Re: Nebraska Examiner
Nebraska Examiner is part of States Newsroom.
States Newsroom is listed as progressive (wikipedia), funded by the Hopewell Fund (follow the link on Wiki)
The aggregator site News From The States (a project of States Newsroom) has the tabs "The Big Lie", "Vaccine Landscape", and "Redistricting".
Agendas masquerading as independent news is a growing trend. Though I don't doubt that Cindy, Paul, Cate, and Aaron are trying to do honest news, the backers of their org are less honest.

Speaking of making something political. I noticed many right-wingers getting tearful over this news site and the new streetcar.nebraska wrote: Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:48 pm Nebraska Examiner is part of States Newsroom.

Re: Nebraska Examiner
Legitimate journalists are fact-based. I tend to read news stories written in publications from across the political spectrum, because I like to weigh all sides before deciding where I fall on a particular issue. As long as they are telling the truth, I don’t care what their “agenda” is. I’m old enough, and experienced enough to see through a journalist’s bias. I also have enough life experience (and a sharp B.S. detector) to know when I’m not being told the truth.nebraska wrote: Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:48 pm Nebraska Examiner is part of States Newsroom.

Was all set to read the Nebraska Sunrise News until they asked for my email address. I’m not giving it to them so they can turn around and sell it to god knows who.Greg S wrote: Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:11 amnebraska wrote: Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:48 pm Nebraska Examiner is part of States Newsroom.

Re: Nebraska Examiner
Help the Nebraska Examiner mark its first anniversary
The Nebraska Examiner is marking its first anniversary today, and I want to thank you all for your support over the past year. With your help, we’ve achieved some important milestones: In our first year as a nonprofit news outlet, we published more than 1,700 stories – including nearly 1,200 just by our three full-time local reporters. Overall, Nebraska Examiner stories received more than 3.7 million pageviews during the last 12 months. Pageviews are only a fraction of our reach, however, because we share our high-quality content to community newspapers and news outlets at no cost.
