What are thoughts on Wing Stop? I have one near work, but I've never thought to get it. I decided to explore the menu after a co-worker got it for lunch recently. It looked pretty good, but they wanted like $11 for 6 wings, fries and a drink. Seems kinda steep. Worth it, or nah?

Personally, I find BWW is a better fast-casual option for wings. Wing Stop has a much more vinegar-y wing sauce for its buffalo styles.

Eek, that's not encouraging. I don't find BWW to be very good anymore. Something happened in the early 2010's. When they changed up their ordering system, they also made other changes, and it seemed as if the overall quality dropped pretty sharply.

Will have to wait til the next time I get a weird craving to try Wing Stop. I had it last night, but lost it.

They also had changed their "Arby's Sauce" but that was probably a couple decades ago. I remember it tasting more like a BBQ sauce before. But I've adapted to that change. Dropping potato cakes, tho? No adapting to that nonsense!

Arby’s just ripping an iconic, original side item off their menu..Poor, poor decision on their part. But I’d suspect, like everything else, there was a higher cost in offering their potato cakes opposed to their new, cut rate crinkle fries..but oh well. Coke once realized they made a huge mistake when they messed with their cola formula in 1985- by 1986, Coke Classic Original Formula was brought back..Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for a potato cake return …

Sorry, I almost missed out on the Arby's Potato Cake discussion. I too always got the cakes every time I went to Arby's. I remember it seemed like it pi$$ed-off the servers if they had to drop a new batch in the fryer because they thought nobody was actually going to order them. Their new crinkle fries are good, much better than their curly fries, but I can't believe they dropped potato cakes. Shame on them.

I think their new crinkle fries are barely average..

But we can all agree dropping potato cakes from their menu was a mistake of the stupidest of proportions…

You may have hit on why the potato cake were good, they were fresh. All the rest could have been sitting around.

All this talk made me go to Arby's yesterday. Still miss the Arby-Q, but the Beef and Cheddar was still good.

That said, was disappointed in the curly fries and have been the last few times I've been there. Seems like they're different than what I remember, but could just be me.

Yeah, the last time I went to Arby’s, probably a month ago, I got the Beef and Cheddar- which was still good. I tried the crinkle fries- they looked the part, but were mediocre at best. The curly fries were always an edible option if I didn’t order potato cakes. I’ll have to try them again. Unfortunate to hear they may not be as good…

I explored McDonald's menu for the first time in a good long while, and I was surprised to see they had zero gimmicky or featured items.

I remember the Angus 1/3rd pound burgers they had, those were all good. Another item they dont have now, that I really enjoyed was the cinnamon melt. And before that, the actual cinnamon roll. Good times.

Now pretty much all I get is a Big Mac and fries.

Your first time having Pot belly?? I love Pot Belly. Have to say its one of my go-to lunch spots (for me I might have had Pot Belly up to 10 times a year). I took a long hiatus because of the pandemic and not wanting to go in places, but I've had it twice in the last couple months. How sweet it is. I kinda forgot about em.

I freakin' love "The Wreck" on multigrain bread. I get it with lettuce, tomato, mustard, italian herbs, oil, and the absolute must is the hot peppers. Its freakin' lip smacking good! I can't believe I neglected both Pot Belly and myself for almost two years.

I love Pot Belly, they closed the one in Papillion. They used to have a family 4 pack special that came with 4 sandwiches, 4 chips and 4 cookies for only $20....that was a great deal, we used to do it weekly.

Does anybody remember Bonanza Steakhouse? When I lived in Omaha in the 80's and early 90's, there was one on 108th and O Street/John Galt Boulevard where a QT gas station is now. My dad took me there once. Bonanza that is. They had some pretty good food there as I recall.

It served a specific clientele--steak for adults that had kids. Back then, you had to get dressed / make reservations for a legit steakhouse (Ross, Cascio, Johnny's) and kids didn't respect a fine cut of beef, anyhow. I know, I was one of those kids. Bonanza / Ponderosa / Mr. Steak had kids menu or fried shrimp, and I was happy w/ that.

They're really big with the kids, and admittedly, I never grew out of it... As of this year, my favorite item to get is the Big Mac with fries and a 4 or 6 piece nugget with sweet & sour dipping sauce, or honey mustard. I might get McDonalds over 12 times a year, but not much over. I think they can be very good. Sometimes, but rarely very bad in my experience. Overall, I think McDonalds is pretty good. They're definitely having a better go of it than BK.

That's not to mention several items that they used to have that they no longer do. Some of my other favorites that come to mind are the sweet chili dipping sauce, the hot mustard dipping sauce, as I mentioned earlier, the bacon and cheese angus third pounder, the cinnamon melt, and I'm sure there's a few others. They have really simplified their menu... And admittedly, I sometimes get a happy meal for myself when I'm not that hungry or am short on money.

They’ve been big with kids since I was a little kid as well. I remember having McDonald’s or Burger King when I was a kid..although my parents (mom in particular) was not over the top in taking us to those type of places to eat as much as my friends parents did..

But I’ll say, for me at least, as I got older, I grew out of eating at either (and I rarely eat or did eat at Wendy’s).. I’m not against fast food- I picked up Popeyes today, lol..but for the burger type fare, there are so many better quality options..for basically the same price..that unless I absolutely had to, I just have zero desire to eat at Burger King or McDonald’s..but like I stated earlier, I can understand the appeal and loyalty..

PS- the sausage egg McMuffin and hash browns were pretty good last month. I’ll give McDonald’s credit when it’s due …

I'm not really sure who has the best fast food burger in Omaha. Its a tough call. I would have to say all the places I listed above each have their own sort of sentimental advantage for me. Not so much that they are actually a good burger, but that they are close and available, a good value, or that I don't get a few of those too often, so it seems like more of a treat.

For me, it’s no contest- the best fast-food burger in Omaha is the double cheeseburger at Don & Millie’s. It’s even better than any burger I’ve had at my beloved Whataburger..and I have, as you know, much love for Whataburger.. It’s that good…

I forgot about Don and Mollies. How could I? I frequented the Saddle Creek location a borderline problem amount in my early 20's. Would get a burger, fries, watch some football or basketball, and throw down 4 or 5 margaritas probably bi-weekly, sometimes more. It's comparatively a pretty safe place for one to get drunk if they want to. Tv's, bathroom, drinks, good food, relatively low key, comfortable. It was better than any bar to me.

Facepalm... I can't believe I forgot. The first place I moved into was right at 42nd & Davenport. I used to take the 3 down to school at south campus, would get out of class by 2 or 4. Heck, at the end of the week, I'd be meeting my friends at Don & Millies dern near every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for dinner and drinks. Good times.

For me, it’s no contest- the best fast-food burger in Omaha is the double cheeseburger at Don & Millie’s. It’s even better than any burger I’ve had at my beloved Whataburger..and I have, as you know, much love for Whataburger.. It’s that good…

I wish I knew what the burgers at Don & Millie's tasted like. Unfortunately, all I get is a mouthful of salt. I'm a guy that over-salts most things, so when I think a burger patty is over-seasoned, then it probably is and Don & Millie's burgers are consistently over-seasoned. Or, at least they are at the D&M locations I frequent.

I never did care for Runza's burgers. Maybe a small sample size for me, but I never really cared for em.

I used to like Runza's burgers more, but I can't remember the last time the cheese was actually melted to the patty. I hate a lukewarm slice of cheese on my burger. Though, at Runza I've always been of the opinion that it's Runza so order a damn Runza.

Whenever I got a 10 or 20 piece back in the day, I would get one of every dipping sauce. The workers hated me for it. I would open em all up and dip each bite in a different sauce. So, I can appreciate them all. They even gave you honey. But my least favorite were ranch, buffalo, and honey. Favorites were sweet chili, sweet and sour, hot mustard, honey mustard, and there was this habanero one I forgot the name of... But anymore now, I don't do that because they got rid of a fair number of their sauces, so it took the fun out of it. I now never get a 10 or 20 piece because I can't dip that many nuggets in the same sauce or two. So 4 or 6 piece as a side it is for me.

Out of curiosity, I looked up their menu to see what all the dipping sauces are left... They have Sweet and Sour, Buffalo, Tangy BBQ, Ranch, Honey Mustard, and Honey. and that's it now. Off the top of my head, I can think of several that they used to have that I actually enjoyed : Chipotle BBQ, Hot Mustard, Sweet Chili, Habanero Ranch... There may be even more. But for my strategy of one of every sauce for a 20 piece got cut in half as they got rid of those sauces. I can see why I don't do that anymore, as there are only three sauces that I enjoy now (BBQ, Sweet and Sour, Honey Mustard), but even then, those three would have been below all the other discontinued ones I mentioned.

Alright now, I'm not a big Chik-fil-a person... But I did happen upon a sauce I never had before. It was by accident too cause I didn't ask for it, it just ended up in the bag. Its called Honey Roasted Barbecue sauce... I don't know what the heck it really is, but I have to say, it is really good.

Finally got the chance to go to Don & Millies on Saddle Creek with my mom. We got the double cheeseburger meal and a cheese frenchie on the side. First time there in several years. We shared the frenchie and the fries. And dang, just that was $17. The frenchie itself was $6. They gave me a free cookie though, so I guess there's that. I do have to agree with a previous assessment that the burger was pretty dang salty. Not unpalatably so, but definitely notably so. If I could have taken a margarita to go, I would have haha. I probably should have gotten the Double Don, as the double cheeseburger is just pickle, onion, ketchup, and mustard. I probably would have appreciated some lettuce, tomato, and mayo... Might have cut the saltiness a bit. Their fries are weirdly good. Like its pretty obvious they are just the bottom line Sysco type of fry, but somehow they were fine.

Overall, I'd have to say I was weirdly delighted with it. Like, it all tasted great to me, but as with every other time I've eaten Don & Millies, I wonder how. Like, all the components seem to be really low-bar, but somehow they are good? I'm still a little bit confused. Will probably go again some time soon. I feel like I filled a void today haha.
