Terrible game for the Jays, The only ones that played well were Kaluma and Kalkbrenner. No bowel movement on offense and terrible d effort and gave up a 14-0 run when the game was close in the second half.

This is a bad loss to a not great Butler team.

Hopefully the Jays can come out and get Xavier on Saturday

Yeah, I figured it was something like that... but it was so appropriate given that dismal performance tonight. Maybe autocorrect knew, haha.

Pathetic performance by the Jays for sure..losing to a 10-10 Butler team..

CU definitely needs to defend home court Saturday afternoon…

Agreed, unfortunately Xavier lost to Providence tonight so they are going to want a win badly as well.

It is the pinkout game for Creighton.

Should be a great game. I’ll be satisfied at this point, with the Jays defending their home court..then trying to steal another road game or 2 in conference..that might be enough to get them an NCAA Tournament bid..

That’s my hope at least…

Highlights - No. 21 Xavier 74, Creighton 64

After a sluggish first half, Xavier exploded out of the chute with a 19-0 run in the second half en route to out-scored Creighton 55-28 in the final 20 minutes of a comeback road win. Paul Scruggs led the way with 18 points and eight assists for the Musketeers, while Jack Nunge, Zach Freemantle and Nate Johnson all had at least 15 for XU. On the Creighton side, Ryan Nembhard led the way with 23 points.

That was a rough 2nd half on Saturday. I read that it was the largest deficit to be overcome by a Jay's opponent since they began playing in CHI.

What a great feeling that must be for Hawkins, he has been struggling the past few games, but he was the one who carried the team through the offensive drought.

I am not sure that it was his knee that he injured, I think he rolled his ankle when he stepped on a player's foot.

From what I have heard it is just an ankle sprain, but he isn't ruled out of tomorrow's game.

Pretty good Tom Shatel article in the W-H addressing the Jays chances for an NCAA Tournament invite-

““They’re 13-7 now,” Krueger said. “If they go .500 or 6-4, that would put them at 19-13. Win one in the Big East (tournament), with the quality wins they have, they’ll be OK.

“Now they can’t go and lose to Georgetown at home. But besides Georgetown or Butler at home, they’re not in position to take any bad losses.

“If they just take care of business, get four or five more wins and get to 20, I think Creighton, unless they have a big collapse here, they’re going to be right there.”

Even with that NET of 67, a KenPom rating of 62 and a BPI ranking of 86, Krueger says the Jays are solid because they have an ace in the hole.

Three of ’em, actually.

Creighton 79, Villanova (then No. 9) 59. Creighton 75, Marquette (now No. 24) 69. Creighton 59, UConn (No. 17) 55.

Those wins will travel well through this roller coaster season.

“They have three quality, high Quad 1 wins now, three Top 25 wins,” Krueger said. “When you look at the rest of the bubble teams, from the 9 (seeds) to the 11 and 12, nobody has three quality wins like that.“..

I pretty much agree, barring any bad loss the Jays are looking like they should solidly be in based on the 3 top-25 wins. The computer metrics are all messed up though. I still don't understand how a team like Iowa, who has no quality wins (granted no bad losses is ranked 24th in the NET rankings. Their best win was vs Indiana @ home. Against all the other power teams in the Big 10 and IA St that they played none of the games have really been close. By the way, Iowa's non-conference SOS was one of the weakest in NCAA (328th according to Kenpom) the Jays was 193. So basically they loaded up on cupcakes, and then beat the lower quality opponents in the Big 10. Hopefully the committee recognizes things like that come selection time.

I am not saying the Jays should be rated much higher but with the quality wins they have and the strength of schedule that they have played, they should at least be in the top 50.

Yeah, I agree. Tough road loss against Seton Hall..and that’s an understatement..

This Jays team really needs to learn to defend home court and be consistent. The growing pains of a very young team…

That was a steamy pile of |expletive| of a game. There are some really high highs, and some really low lows this season, which I guess I expected... still doesn't make these kinds of performances easy to digest.

Yep highs and lows, at least they didn’t completely give up in the 2nd half. Actually out scored hall by 2, just a horrible start to the game and too much to overcome.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Trey Alexander, Creighton, G, Fr.

He made 5-of-6 free throws in the final minutes to help secure the victory. Alexander had nine points in a 74-55 loss at Seton Hall. He takes Freshman honors for the second time in the last three weeks.

I think it crazy how many times Creighton freshman have won the award this year. R2 has 5 of them and Trey now has 2. It could be b/c almost every other team is loaded with upper-classmen, but if Creighton can keep this core group of guys together, they are going to be really good in a year or two.
