Amazing footage, I was surprised the car at the end of the video continued driving in what looked like right into the storm . Was that I-35 ?

Unfortunately at least 6 killed by the tornado. Preliminary rating is at least an EF3. I’m not surprised a strong tornado occurred. Was warning of it for a few days. Sad it turned deadly though.

Wow, surprising number of fatalities so early in the season. That said, fast moving strong storms that may be some people weren't prepared for.

Wow, I'm not gonna lie, I'm a bit impressed (relatively speaking) by the snow tonight. They were talking a dusting, and at least where I am, it already looks like its approaching 1", and some people are struggling with driving on it. Coming down pretty good right now.

This was a surprise ! I wasn’t expecting this at all. At least an inch in SW Omaha and possibly more. The morning commute could be dicey. Then possibly more snow Wednesday eve and Thursday.

Re: 2022 Weather Thread
Last night Bill said the snow on Thursday has potential to be our biggest of the season. Oh hmm, I guess that's not saying much as our biggest of the season is 2.6". But if I recall correctly I eyeballed a bit more than that on my sidewalks. So are we talking 4" plus? I say bring it on. Though I do wish a bit that mother nature would have got it out of her system during December, January, and February.

Dang, it definitely looked nasty. That's the highest rated tornado in the US so far this year. In Iowa, in March... Strange.

Since you like the snow so much, I’ll have you come out and scoop my driveway Thursday. I saw Bill Randby’s updated forecast at 5pm..snow totals now for the Omaha metro have dropped down to a dusting to an inch at most (Busguy won’t need to scoop my driveway now, lol)..But then- 60 this Sunday, then 55, 65 and 70 for highs Monday through Wednesday..ShawJ wrote: Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:15 pm Looks like a huge warm up coming next week. Here’s the latest from the NWS Omaha weather discussion from 3 hours ago-
“Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE
529 PM CST Wed Mar 9 2022
...Updated Aviation Forecast Discussion...
.UPDATE...
Issued at 521 PM CST Wed Mar 9 2022
Really having some concern on snow amounts on the northern edge of
the system tonight, as the dry air with dewpoints in the single
digits could really limit amounts. This would include the Omaha
and Council Bluffs metro areas where we currently have 1-2"
forecast. Latest models indicate maybe less than an inch…”
They’re indicating the latest models are showing less than an inch for the Omaha metro (probably why Randby is predicting a dusting to an inch)..we’ll see..
In any case, good to see this as a potential next to nothing frozen precipitation event…

Update from the NWS-
“We've updated our snowfall forecast, mainly to reduce amounts on the northern side of the main snow band.
This includes the Omaha metro area, where we're now expecting less than 1 inch.
Still expecting travel impacts, especially along the NE/KS border.”…

It wasn’t much of a winter at all, except for some occasional cold spells. I think the least snowiest winter I can remember in Omaha. Many of the storms missed us and went to our south.

Had 3 weather alerts for my area (Land o Lakes FL) come in this morning - in a tornado watch this morning, then after midnight tonight a Freeze Warning 32°and WindChill Advisory as low as 25°. It is currently 74° at 7 am. Interesting weather.

Re: 2022 Weather Thread
This is sorta weather related, and if Coyote wants to, can embed the story or make a new thread about it...
But KETV just ran a story about I guess they are debating daylight savings time vs standard time. I think this can be a touchy subject, so if it gets enough replies, it can be moved.
I am 10 to the millionth power against daylight savings time. The story seems to be mostly loaded in favor of year round daylight savings time, citing health issues associated with changing clocks (which happens because of DST, not standard time). People seem to forget that you actually don't get an extra hour of daylight. I will site :https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/omaha On the longest day of the year, there are 15 hours of daylight, which supposedly sunset is 9:00 pm (DST). That is frickin late, and that's forgetting twilight which lasts til about 10pm DST. If we went to standard time all year, it would be 8pm. That's still plenty late, so if I get off work at 4, that would still be 4 hours of daylight on standard time. And a lot of people forget, it doesn't get dark at 5pm in the winter because "standard time sucks", it gets dark at 5pm because it's winter and the days are shorter. That fact just can't be changed. I'm in the same boat as the guy against it, the sun should always and forever be at its apex as close to noon as possible all year round. I absolutely hate DST.

I don’t have a preference between the two, but I am totally for getting rid of jumping up an hour or falling back one. Completely unnecessary.Busguy2010 wrote: Mon Mar 14, 2022 11:40 pm This is sorta weather related, and if Coyote wants to, can embed the story or make a new thread about it...

I forgot to mention, I'd even be more in favor of it being the other way around than it is. People complain about not enough light in winter, then give em light. Make DST in winter and standard time in summer. I'm in favor of standard time year round by 1000 fold.

Man, I don't get it. Why does everybody want to live in perpetual LaLa land? Like right now it is "3:15", but it is supposed to be 2:15. Only thing I get out of DST is lack of sleep and enragement about other people having so much loud and disruptive energy at such a late hour. Oh and somehow I'm now artificially one hour closer to bedtime. Give me my |expletive| hour back. |expletive| this |expletive|. If this goes through, I'm leavin'.

I'm not seeing anything further confirming anything other than yesterday's 47-3 vote to continue. Like I said, it would take federal approvement, as well as two neighboring states also doing the same. Doesn't sound like a done deal to me. And as I also stated earlier, the day length is always the same on any given calendar day year to year., so don't mistake DST for an extra hour of daylight.

Re: 2022 Weather Thread
Aw man this is bullshit. I saw a story quoting some representatives, saying "we need to stop this stupidity" or something like that. Yeah, I agree, changing the clocks is stupid, but we should change to perpetual standard time, not perpetual DST. I say this as somehow it is "8:05", when really it should be 7:05. DST just makes my sleep schedule worse. In the winter I usually fall asleep by 2, in the summer it's automatically 3. I am so mad.

Re: 2022 Weather Thread
I get such a sense of relief when we "fall back" in fall. Why do they make it sound negative anyway? Every early November, I feel like I'm getting something back that was taken from me, and every early March, I feel like I'm being stolen from. You literally give up an hour of sleep in exchange for more activity later in the day. You lose energy by less sleep, you lose energy by the sun coming up later, and you lose energy by the sun being out later. I don't see how that wouldn't be a source of even more discord in our country.

Re: 2022 Weather Thread
That completely defeats the argument for DST then. I have always agreed, we should stop being forced to change the clocks, but I want the sun at its apex as close to noon and midnight as possible. It should be employers and stores adjusting their hours as they see fit. If employers allow flexible scheduling, and people decide to retain their sleep health and go to work an hour later, that defeats the effective purpose of DST, as if there ever was one.GetUrban wrote: Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:39 amI’m glad it went that way instead of ol’ standard time, although I’ll miss springing ahead and falling behind every year. Re: 2022 Weather Thread
Yep, this is one of the few things you might see me be beside myself about. Its not without reason though.
To say I |expletive| hate DST is a vast understatement.
I'm gonna hold my position... The more I look into it, the more it sounds like Marco Rubio's dumb idea, and he and all of you who prefer DST have it all wrong, excuse me. Standard time is the actual time. We experience less daylight in winter because the days are shorter, there's no getting around that. Would 8:00pm on our longest day of the year not be a late enough sunset? Why does it need to be later? Don't we need to get a little bit of sleep some time? This is just one of the dumbest ideas I think I've ever seen. DST is stupid to begin with, but to make it perpetual? And to cite "nobody likes the time change anyway" is totally beside the point. DST is the problem, not the time change itself. We don't have DST, we don't have all the negative affects of the time change in spring. If we keep DST perpetual, we will be stuck with those negative affects. When we go back to Standard Time in the fall, we reap the benefits of getting our hour back. It just does not make sense. I'm so mad. This is legitimately |expletive| my day/week/foreseeable future up.
