Nebraska Basketball 2022-2023

Post by Greg S »

Unfortunately it's officially offseason for the men.

Saw NU is playing in the ESPN Invitational. Tough field:

Possible transfer option. He's also heard from Creighton and others:

Matt Abdelmassih is mutually parting ways as an Assistant on Fred's Husker staff. He has worked with FH at Iowa St, THe Timberwolves and been with the Husker for three seasons.

The media had been expecting Abdelmassih to possibly be let go, but it still kind of surprised me. He was responsible for all the top recruits. I do understand they didn’t lead to wins.

I have heard many good points that he was leed to bringing in talent but not being fit to a team or a culture. While some of that should fall on FH for fit it has to be from the recruiting lead too. He has made statements too about not looking at local talent because he had better talent he can get elsewhere. While you may believe that it should NEVER be something you say if you want to get any local looking your way. His time had come. May not be the only change in staff either.

And it does not sound like they are replacing him. He had a sweet gig last year making $300k as an analyst. Will be interesting to see who is our new assistant. Will have to be a good recruiter (and hopefully hang on to our current class).

Nothing but good wishes for Doc. Truly a good guy.

Agree on Doc. Always have liked him. He now has the distinction of probably being the only guy that has been let go as a Husker basketball coach twice.

I bet he's done coaching. I have followed some of his social media accounts and to looks like they have costal property in Florida and that is where is wife is at most of the time

Yeah even coming in most expected he'd be a one and done. Definitely a special player that should be in the NBA for years to come. Nice to see Nebraska is starting to put players consistently in the NBA again.

Nebraska is still one over the scholarship limit so we will have at least one more leaving (and that's providing we don't bring anyone else in). I have been watching to see if any of the new class doesn't make it since the Abdelmassih recruited them and is no longer here.

Nebraska basketball center Eduardo Andre enters transfer portal

https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/ ... 185002842/

Nebraska center Eduardo Andre, who spent two seasons with the Huskers, has entered the transfer portal, per a source. The 6-foot-11, 236-pound Andre averaged 3.1 points on 57 percent shooting and 3.2 rebounds per game this season as a reserve big behind Derrick Walker.

Andre, a native of London, England, played his high school basketball at AZ Compass Prep in Arizona, and was rated a three-star prospect according to 247Sports. Andre didn’t begin playing basketball until he was 14, but showed progress over his two seasons in Lincoln. He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Andre is the latest Husker to announce their intention to leave the program. On Monday, Bryce McGowens announced he would enter the NBA draft and hire an agent, ending his time at Nebraska after one season.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Not sure but I would probably set the over/under for additional players leaving at 3 or 4.

Blaise Keta (#1 ranked juco player) reaffirms his commitment and will be here in July. Another commit Jamarques Lawerence did so earlier this week. Denim Dawson was an early enrollee. It states Ramel Lloyd has not decided yet:

Armon Gates is staying. There was speculation he was headed to Mizzou since his brother got the head coaching job there and Armon was there for the press conference. Gates has been at NU since Miles was the head coach. Next news to hear is whether Trey McGowens and Lat Mayen stay or go.

Adam Howard Added as Nebrasketball Assistant
Fred Hoiberg says new hire from South Alabama ‘fits what we were looking for’

Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has announced the newest addition to his staff. Adam Howard joins the Huskers as an assistant coach. He spent the past four seasons at South Alabama, carrying the title of associate head coach last year.

Howard fills the vacancy left by Matt Abdelmassih, with whom Nebraska parted ways last month.

I really like this hire. Seems to be exactly the hands on coach we need. Glad he will run full and half court D along with working with the big men.

Will be interesting to see who is our lead recruiter now.

Yeah the NIL is having a big impact everywhere. Read an article where a basketball player has a deal with a Lamborghini dealer. Another has a deal worth $800k over 2 years. Oklahoma FB has a nil collective where they are talking about $40k-$50k that can be earned by every fb player. Another unnamed 5-star 2023 FB athlete signed a NIL deal that could pay him $8 million by the end of his junior year. He would start out with $350k
We are the people our parents warned us about.
