WOWT to showcase 11 matches during the 2022 season

Union Omaha announced today a partnership with WOWT that will broadcast nine away matches, as well as both the home opener and closer, over the course of the 2022 USL League One season. The games will air on Circle TV, WOWT’s digital channel. This is the first local broadcast deal in Union Omaha history and will aim to increase local viewership by providing another coverage option to those in the Omaha community.

“One of our priorities of the off-season was securing a local linear broadcast deal,” Union Omaha General Manager Peter Marlette said. “It is something our fans have been calling for and will help us reach a wider audience in the region. We’re thrilled to be able to bring our fans Union Omaha soccer at home without requiring a subscription.”

“WOWT is excited to offer Union Omaha soccer matches on Circle 6.6 to viewers in our area,” WOWT General Manager Jim McKernan said. “Union Omaha plays an exciting brand of soccer and are the reigning USL League One Champions. WOWT believes in localism, and the opportunity to showcase this local team fits with our mission.”

The 2022 League One Championship defending campaign will continue on April 16 with a visit to South Georgia Tormenta FC. The home opener at Werner Park is set for April 23 vs. USL1 newcomer Central Valley Fuego FC. Season tickets and undated voucher packs for the 2022 season are currently available via UnionOmaha.com or the Werner Park Ticket Office by calling 402-738-5100.

USL League One is a United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned professional men’s soccer league that occupies the third tier of the American soccer landscape, below USL Championship (tier two) and Major League Soccer (tier one). Union Omaha plays its home matches at Werner Park in Sarpy County, also home to the Omaha Storm Chasers of Minor League Baseball. Gordon Signs With Union Omaha

Ed Gordon becomes the second Maverick this spring to sign with Union Omaha. Gordon played five seasons with the Mavericks from 2017-21. Gordon joins former teammate Hugo Kametani with the organization. Kametani signed in February this year.

This is really cool no matter what. That being said, did Chicago play all of their normal starters? I know in the past when Sporting KC plays against teams from lower levels, it's not the same lineup they use in MLS play.

UNO to Host Union Omaha US Open Cup Match

On Wednesday, May 11, at 7 p.m., UNO will be hosting Union Omaha's US Open Cup match vs the Northern Colorado Hailstorm at Caniglia Field. This will be the first ever professional soccer match hosted at UNO and a special homecoming for three former Maverick student-athletes who currently play for Union Omaha – Hugo Kametani, Ed Gordon and Emir Alihodzic.

Led by former UNO head coach Jason Mims, Union Omaha earned a place among the final round of 32 in the elimination tournament after defeating rival, Des Moines Menace and after scoring a historic upset vs Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire in April.

Just saw Union Omaha was awarded $25k for being the furthest advincing D3 team in the Lamar Hunt Cup. With the win last night, they are now in the round of 16.

There are only 3 non-MLS teams remaining. Union (USL League 1), Lousville City (USL Championship), and Sacremento Republic (USL Championship). They are getting another chance to make a name for themselves and a bid for moving up a league.

Forward will feature in two matches during the Concacaf Nations League

PAPILLION, Neb. (May 20, 2022) – Union Omaha forward Ricardo (Ricky) Rivera has been announced to the Puerto Rican National Team roster for a pair of upcoming Concacaf Nations League matches. The squad will play in League C against British Virgin Islands on June 9 and Cayman Islands on June 12. This is Rivera’s 13th cap for el Huracán Azul.

The San Juan native joined Union Omaha in August 2021 and made a quick impact for the club, scoring in his fourth-ever match against North Carolina FC on Sept. 4. He received his first international call-up in 2012, playing for the U-17 World Cup Qualifier at the age of 15. Since joining the senior team in 2016, he’s scored four goals in Olympic and World Cup qualifying matches.

Just crazy they were able to hold on. They were pinned in their zone so much of the 2nd half with so many close calls. Just an incredible run in the playoffs.

Union Omaha becomes first third-division team since 2013 to make Round of 8

Union Omaha just can’t seem to stop rewriting the history books in its first U.S. Open Cup run. Now weeks removed from their win as the first USL League One club to defeat an MLS team, Omaha stood unaccompanied in the Round of 16. The Owls now carried the torch for all of League One, as their 2-0 victory over Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC in the previous round left them as the final third division team remaining in the competition. Omaha found itself amongst giants, with just 2 USL Championship squads and 13 MLS sides left to play. And despite the numerous milestones already earned, the Owls proved Wednesday night that they are not yet satisfied.

With the victory, Union Omaha is now the first third-division club since 2013 to reach the quarterfinals of the Open Cup. The Owls will gear up for an I-29 derby as they make the trip three hours south to take on their next MLS opponent in Sporting KC on June 22. Until then, Omaha will look to bring some of its Open Cup magic to league play as they host Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. on May 28.

OWLS RECORD A CLEAN SHEET AND A POINT AT HOME

It’s been a long month on the road for the Owls, who were ready to get back into league play after a bye and a statement win on Wednesday, defeating MLS’ Minnesota United FC and booking their date in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. Omaha is undefeated in league play following Open Cup wins and looked to build upon that streak in Saturday’s match-up.

Their opponent wasn’t all too unfamiliar, seeing as though a few weeks separated their last meeting. Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC returned to Omaha for the teams’ second match-up, ready to avenge their 2-0 loss to the Owls in the Open Cup Round of 32 on May 11.
