Smash Park is building a 25,000 entertainment complex here. Indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar concept based out of Des Moines that has pickleball courts, shuffleboard, bags, bocce ball, pingpong, board games, etc. No word on exactly which lot yet, but it's listed on their website and was announced in this week's Grow Omaha newsletter as coming soon to Southport West.

https://www.smashpark.com

Here's an article from last year talking about the opening of their second location; Omaha/La Vista will be the third. Looks like an interesting place and the one in Des Moines has been wildly popular. Pretty big get for Southport -- between Alamo and Smash Park you've got the start of a little mini-suburban-entertainment district.

Talked about it on Grow Omaha last week. Should be a good get for that area. Once the sports complex opens, it will nice to have more entertainment options in that area for visitors.

I see the sign for Dirty Dough is up now.

The exterior structure of Smash Park is mostly up too.

Forgive me if that has been posted elsewhere, but the World-Herald had a story online about 2 additional hotels coming to Southport, to be constructed starting later in 2023 and completed in 2025 on a 7 acre parcel of land owned currently by PayPal, on the north side of Giles Rd. A 119 room Holiday Inn Express and a 112 room Residence Inn.

I saw a drilling rig taking core samples at that site a couple months ago. Glad to see more development there.

There is also a piece of land next to Smash Park that is owned by "Premier Petroleum" out of Georgia, which has a hospitality division called "Premier Hospitality". They build Hilton (Home2, Tru) and Marriott (Residence Inn, Courtyard) properties.

I was hunting around Google Maps for something else and randomly noticed that Charred Burgers + Bar is shown as a tenant in the new strip mall at Southport over by Jersey Mikes/Dirty Dough. Apple Maps shows the same thing.

12434 Southport Pkwy, La Vista, NE 68128

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Charr ... ?entry=ttu

Coincidentally, Charred was teasing on Facebook over the weekend that they're opening a new location somewhere in the metro in Spring 2024. So I guess this is where it's at. Sorry to spoil their surprise. 8)

There is now a banner up on the east end of the Southport Centre building indicating Charred Burger + Bar is coming soon.

There is a (very small) portable construction office on site now. New Generation Construction, which is a local company.

I see the Embassy Suites/Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center complex is now charging for parking. There's signs up with QR codes. You can get it validated, so in some instances it's free (probably for hotel guests and whatnot). The lady I spoke to about it said they really only seem to enforce it overnight.

I guess I am not really surprised. I have often seen variose construction type vehicles parked there early in the AM and it didn't look necesarrly that they were staying there. Just staged. Would hope it was with permission but who knows

Parking could be fairly tight there. I can remember several years ago we rented a suite so our kid could have a hotel sleepover birthday party (it was a thing at the time). Anyway, there was a large wedding reception and a small convention happening at the same time. I went out for pizzas and when I got back to the hotel there was nowhere to park. I parked at Cabela's and walked across the street. So, if the stars align and it happens to be a busy week for both the hotel and the convention center then I can see irate guests complaining about nowhere to park. For a suburban hotel with a parking lot that big, that should never be a problem. There is some parking on the backside of the hotel that people seem to be mostly unaware of.

I’ve attended many conferences at this convention center and parking is always hard to come by without walking a block or two. Finding your vehicle when you leave can be an experience as well. 😆

I assume this new building that is just starting to go vertical.
It is on the opposite end of the strip mall from Starbucks.

I had been wondering what this was going to be an had not found anything yet.

Top Golf coming to La Vista

Looks like some sort of TopGolf of similar project is headed to La Vista based of this new PUD Plan.

Looks like one pad is a brewery with attached "dog park". Fair amount of apartments and townhomes as well. My guess this is the same company doing the golf range as the place in along I80 out by Kearney; same type of narrow "fairway" design vs TopGolf's wider layout.

Do Well??

There is a lot of national coverage where Top Gulf is struggling becuase the novelty has worn off, and the cost to build is astronomical.

For most people, Top Golf is just expensive enough where its more of a special occasion place and not a regular place.

lots of groundwork going on here. Seems unnecessary to have a roundabout in the plan but I'm not a traffic flow expert.

Something called "Slick City Action Park" is going in here according to Grow Omaha. Says it's a 41,000 sq. ft. indoor attraction with slides and trampolines, and will open in early 2027.

Another venue to add to the rotation on the kids' birthday party circuit is good; seems like we're at Urban Air, Bounce U, Sky Zone, etc for one of our sons' friends birthday every damn month

Hard to believe we can't get a better indoor karting experience in Omaha - or something else besides bounce houses.

Speaking of slides, has the place in Oakview opened yet?

Lastly, my daughter takes her so to the place on 144th & Center (Kipp). She said the pricing has gone up on it quite a bit. I guess capitalize as much as possible while you can. Really I'm surprised the bounce thing has stuck as well as it has. Although I'm sure it's exciting for kids - when I was little, all of our birthdays were simply celebrated at home. Never had offsite parties and I think I went to only one back in the 80's for a friend's bday.

You are correct. They started going up last Thursday or Friday.
