There is an interactive GIS website out there that shows the new information for Douglas and Sarpy County. I just can't remember where it is at the moment. The new data actually made quite a big difference on one project I was working on, in a good way.

The AE or 1% chance is what they use to call the 100 year flood.
The .02 is what they use to call the 500 year flood

Basically in the AE you have a 1% chance you will get flooded in any given year or you will flood once every 100 years. The 0.2 change that to 500 years.

The lines which run perpendicular to the creek with the numbers on them are base flood elevation. Basically to not be considered in the flood plain you need to be 1 foot higher than whatever that number says. so go to the park in Aksarben village, the line that runs though that park is 1023.2. So if you were going to build a building in that park, the lowest floor in that building should be 1024.2 or higher.

No new construction is allowed in the floodway.

Also, if you buy a lot in flood plain and want to raise it, you can only raise 25% of the lot. Usually that works out ok in Suburban areas because you only need to raise the building, not the parking or lawn.

I know there's been some discussion around the interwebs about how these "once in 100 years" or "once in 500 years" events like winter storms or flooding seem to be happening more like once every 20 or 50 years and maybe we need to reassess what we're calling 100-year or 500-year weather events.

These are new/proposed maps that won't officially go in to place until late this year or next year. Not sue all what data in the model was updated, but they are different that the current maps.
