Wouldn't mind Hudson in a vacuum, but I feel like some turnover at the top of the Sheriff's department might not be a bad thing.

The way OPD’s Union bashes Gonzalez, in part because his wife is suing OPD for harassment, sealed my vote for Gonzalez. Just wild to me a OPD’s Union would bash both, Hudson & Gonzalez so aggressively. It’s disgusting imo
The OPD Union grip on city politics is unreal. True corruption in action unfortunately. I’m a big pro-union guy, but the power the police force has on the happenings at city hall (and even the greater county as seen here) needs to be publicized much more frequently and in depth.
OFD is rather controlling. They had Fahey and Suttle wrapped around their fingers. How did those contracts fare for the solvency of the pension plan?

It’s incredibly interesting, as this isn’t a problem unique to Omaha. Yet, we only hear about issues with these unions when the mayor is at a stalemate in negotiations with them; potentially risking the city’s credit rating.

It is truly unique how the much power fire and police unions wield over a city.

Nebraska GOP gubernatorial primary poll

A new poll commissioned by a political consultant reiterates that the GOP nomination for Nebraska governor appears to be fair game for any of three candidates.

https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2022/04/30 ... roped-her/
Elizabeth Todsen was a 23-year-old employee of State Sen. Dave Murman when she attended the 2019 Elephant Remembers fundraiser for the Douglas County Republican Party. A former state chair of the College Republicans, she was excited to be starting her career. One minute, she said, she was enjoying chatting with friends at the Omaha dinner.

Then moments later, Todsen said, she was staring into space, struggling to process having just been groped in public by Herbster, who was then a major GOP donor. A friend said he had seen what happened and asked if she wanted him to confront Herbster. She said no because she didn’t want to make a scene.

...

Slama had previously told the Examiner that she saw Herbster grope a woman at the dinner. That woman was Todsen. After the Examiner’s initial article was published, combat veteran Edward Boone spoke out on the record to say he had seen what happened to Todsen. He had previously confirmed Todsen’s account, on condition that his name be withheld, saying he feared retaliation, too.
Changed my registration to R and voted Lindstrom. This man cannot become governor.

Lindstrom won the first debate, and the second. The third was a toss up between him and Thibideau. Herbster actually tried to lead the debate audience in prayer.

Douglas County sheriff candidate ticketed for driving 107 mph

George Merithew was pulled over shortly before 9 a.m. on Interstate 80 near 42nd Street on his way to represent his campaign at the Cinco De Mayo parade in South Omaha. According to the citation, an officer was driving east down I-80 near 50th Street when a blue BMW convertible sped past at what the officer estimated to be 110 mph.

Radar clocked Merithew driving 107

That’s what you get when you know the officer that pulled you over and flash your expired police ID I suppose.

I thought you had to double the speed limit to get in more serious trouble? If that's true, then he would need to do 130? Anyone know for sure?

I'd vote for Gonzalez, but unfortunately not within my county. 😕

I agree with the police grip in this city - find it irritating they're in bed with the local govt.

Unrelated to that part but definitely related to the governor election, what am I missing when I look at these videos/photos of all of the people going to a "pro-Trump, pro-Herbster" event. Regardless if 75% of the accusations about Herbster are not true, isn't it a little discomforting 8 different women came forward? I mean that falls in line with Trump's "Just grab them by the pu--y" comments, so I guess they are somewhat one in the same.

But how do women support these guys? And I mean A LOT of women? I guess I lack the common sense or simply the vision needed to look past these things.

And, it has nothing to do with party - I'll likely vote Republican for governor.

Maybe it's the fake good ol' boy picture he tries to paint with his down home country cowboy hat. But, to be fair, Pillen had a commercial where he was standing there with a rifle. Guess guns and cowboys win votes and elections! 😂🤣

With any luck Pillen and Herbster will cancel each out and we’ll be spared the agony of ever hearing their ads again!

The amount of Postcards and Text Messages this year has been out of control. The photo below is from just one day, Thursday, April 7th, well over a month before the election. My wife and I have EACH received in the neighborhood of 100 mailers like this. As far as texts messages, I delete them as they come in, but I have had no less than 1 dozen texts today.

Its all such a waste too, I have never ever cast a vote because of a post card or phone call/text...

Agreed. I get 10-15 emails a day wanting my donation so they can continue producing all of that advertising material. I’m wondering if there is anyone out there that doesn’t receive the same emails and messages. I’ve never donated any $ to any campaign. The only thing I will give them is my vote, If I agree they are the best candidate after researching their positions myself.

I find the postcard thing amusing. Do those work? Who reads them? Honestly, postal mail is so low on my priority list. I only check my mail about about twice per week. My first stop after checking it is my outdoor trash bin where all of the mail I don't want goes. It doesn't even make it in the house. The people in my neighborhood that walk briskly to the mailboxes immediately after the mailman drives away crack me up. In a hurry to get that Valpack? lol

It's funny because my wife and I are both registered, but I don't recall seeing a single card in the mail this "season". We are in Sarpy, but there others we'd be included in. Guess they don't want to throw the $ down the drain in my household! 🤣

I am in Sarpy too ( Gretna) the number of mailing we got this cycle far outways the typical election.

Calls too. Got 7 last night after 5 PM alone.

Can't wait for all the highly educated young people to come flooding back to the state now that Pillen is in charge and can implement fighting abortion, socialism, factual US history, conservation, and spending on necessary services. For too long, we've been losing our best and brightest to our nation's utopias, like Oklahoma, Mississippi, and North Dakota. We can finally make Nebraska our own Mississippi.

Trump screwed up here. He should have pulled the endorsement. One of the themes partially developed in the news was that people didn't think it mattered at first, but were later disappointed in Trump.

For me, the sex assault claims are disgusting IF real (emphasis on IF). If real, the disqualified him. His prayer stunt in the middle of the Phelps Co debate ended any support I could give him. While the sex stuff could end up being fake news, or more likely "he said-she said" |expletive|, watching, live on TV broadcast across Nebraska, him try to use religion to manipulate politics is never acceptable whether from the right or the left. For me, the sex stuff will adjudicate itself, but after that stunt, he was dead to me as a candidate.

Or…
“Trump weighed in with statement blasting (Georgia Governor) Kemp and saying that a victory for him would be a blow to 'election integrity.'

'Today, the worst "election integrity" governor in the country, Brian Kemp, loaded the great state of Georgia up with RINOs,' he said in an emailed statement.

'That's right, he had them all.

'Chris Christie, Doug Ducey from Arizona, and Pete Ricketts from Nebraska. “

I am looking forward to the election, only because it's a time to place a vote. This gubernatorial race is disappointing, as I am not really excited about either. Pillen though strikes me as not having a plan, specifics about what he intends to pursue as governor, other than culture war topics. It's very weird, but it just doesn't seem like he has any concreate ideas to address well known issues like property tax reform, or housing. That or he's not revealing it because it would be unpopular, maybe even among republicans. Blood seems to have issues thought out and it's clear she's been on the front lines working on some of these issue on the legislature, but I am hardly agreeing with how she wants to address many of these issues. Tough cookies, I guess.

Going to have to violate my "no debate=no vote" rule and go with Pillen. Blood is a leftist dem and would be too likely to go identitarian left in her appointments and her actions.

What worries me about this is that if I had a 7/10 problem that needed state help, she would decide that my skin wasn't the right color or my gender was too solid and therefore decline to help me before she even knew what was going on.
