Looks like our severe weather threat over the next several days has basically gone "poof" as a result of capping issues (a warm layer aloft that prevents storm development). It will be hot/humid (especially next week) but storms will mostly struggle to develop...

I can’t say I’m disappointed to see the severe threat gone..

Saturday looks to be a very nice weather day…

It sux that were going straight into the 90’s after several weeks of 50s & 60’s with Sunday in the 70’s, then jump to 3 days in the 90’s already. Looking forward to a return to 70s at the end of the week, hopfully without all of the wind.

Thankfully we had out windows closed and have kept them closed all day, its only 70 but in the basement where I am working its only 67, so still quite comfortable. Although, if we have a few consecutive days with warmer temps like we are supposed to, the house staying cool without AC won't last long.

At least the dew points are supposed to come down from 60's into the lower 50's and even 40's by 6 pm.

We’ll, I spent a small mint last August on a brand new Trane A/C and Furnace system.. The AC has kept my house at a comfortable 67 degrees all day..

I honestly don’t mind shorts and t shirt weather :) .. But admittedly, I’d rather see us build up to it. Not just Bam! Here’s a 94 degree day for you on May 9th..after a cool start to the month…

This past year or so has been pretty active. I remember complaining about no activity from 2017 until last year. Now this year it seems like every other week we are in slight or enhanced risk.

Yep, looking like a pretty widespread damaging wind event with some hail/tornado potential as well…

Twitter is my favorite social media by a long ways, and it's a fantastic platform for weather. Twitter being real time (Not an algorithm), and the ability to search words and hash tags makes it great for weather. Then if you have Tweet Deck, it takes organizing that data to a whole other level of greatness. Also, the tweet deck has no advertisements on it!

And before all the twitter haters come jumping in, I don't follow politics. I have every politician and many political words blocked/muted. Twitter is great for Arts, Sports, and Weather.

The SPC Omaha in the Enhanced Risk area today for Sever Weather. Only a 2% tornado chance, but a 15% hail chance and a 30% severe wind chance. The NAM and the HRRR showing a line of thunder storms moving in to Omaha after 7pm. The greatest tornado threat looks to be up near N Dakota, S Dakota, Minnesota border and there is a large hail threat running from the Dakotas down through Central Nebraska and in to North Central Kansas.

Yep, though if the HRRR verifies, I’m not sure the severe weather will actually make to Omaha before weakening…

Lol, the weather channel has a segment I think it's called "virtual (insert city)". They did one for Omaha for today. Its basically a snapshot of downtown Omaha and they make it look like you are standing in the city as a storm is rolling through. The site they chose? The beautiful civic site, complete with mud and patches of pooling water.

Interesting how the current round of severe storms developed on the leading edge of the wind shear. Either way, these should track far enough north that they probably won't impact Omaha itself unless they build further south info KS.

Another round of strong/severe storms should develop further west in Nebraska. I still don't think odds are great they will maintain their strength long enough to impact Omaha with any severe weather (which is obviously good news for most). Still should get some rain though out of the 2nd round later this evening.

I haven't had any use for TWC since they fired Marny Stanier for the hideous crime of being in her 40s.

Shortly thereafter, one of their OCMs harassed a female co-worker.

Heads rolled and checks were written in both instances.

Incredible Haboob - Daylight To Complete Darkness - Rising City Nebraska - May 12, 2022

StormAndSky

Watch a fast moving haboob in Nebraska change day to night in a matter of seconds. Very rare event for this region. I've chased for a couple decades and only really seen one and it wasn't this intense. Freshly tilled fields and back to back windy days with highs near 100 surely drove most of this. I shot it with multiple cameras...with the windows down the whole time...not even considering how much I was breathing in. And of course noticed I had face masks right there after it was done.
