Three-time Summit League Coach of the Year Krista Wood has been named head softball coach at Creighton University

Three-time Summit League Coach of the Year Krista Wood has been named head softball coach at Creighton University, McCormick Endowed Athletic Director Marcus Blossom announced on Monday, June 6th. Wood becomes just the third head coach in Bluejay Softball history, joining Mary Higgins (1977-1992) and Brent Vigness (1993-2022).

"I'm very excited to welcome Krista, her husband Alex and their two children, Braxton and Myles to the Creighton community," said Blossom. "Krista is a fantastic coach, leader and teammate who has earned a tremendous amount of success as a head coach at two different universities. More importantly, she's a great mentor of young women who also emphasizes the importance of academic success and personal development. Our softball program will thrive under Krista's leadership."

Creighton's Cayla Nielsen: Big time production from a small town superstar



Cayla Nielsen is the lead-off hitter for the Creighton softball team, but as FOX 42's Bill Steckis reports, she also leads the team in more than a few categories. She led the team in several categories last year as a sophomore and as it keeps piling up the wins, Nielsen continue to lead her team in big spots. Her nearly .400 batting average leads the team and is one of the best in the Big East. She's crushed four homeruns so far this year and is near the top of the team with 18 RBIs. It's big time production from a small town superstar.

She came to Creighton from Class B Blair High School.
