It was really coming down here but only got .72 in the end. It was going up quick though while it was raining.

We got right at 2" near 90th and Center.

We also had quite a bit of damage at the countryside art fair.

The area where I live on West Center between 120th and 132nd street got nailed with close to 3 inches of rain in about 45 minutes. There was a bit of small hail mixed in too. But that rain was about as intense as I’ve seen in quite awhile..

That is wild Brad!…

Eppley recorded .59" for that event, though I don't doubt it was significantly more for other areas. I never did see the past radar, so I'll never know the exact track, but it kinda seems like it was a narrow band of very heavy and continuous rain. Some got it, some didn't.

Basically formed up between Gretna and the 80/680 split and moved east/northeast. It really strengthened when it passed the 80/680 split. The radar image below cuts off about when the real downpour started.

The wind on the other hand was super strange. It wasn't windy at all, then it got super windy for just a super brief period. Less than 30 seconds, and then right back to normal. Bust have been a downburst or something.

On that hand then I'm really surprised Eppley only eeked out .5" and the SW area was 2-3".

Once the Art Fair got trashed, I never looked at the radar again to see what happened after it moved past.

It was literally one of the most intense rain events I’ve seen..I had just entered the Starbucks at 122nd and West Center about 4pm. A few minutes later, I sat down with my beverage close to the window and then Bam- a huge clap of thunder, then the sky opened and the downpour of rain, in sheets kept coming down. The big down burst of wind Brad was mentioning, lasted about 30 seconds and the rain, literally was hitting the windows of the Starbucks straight. Then it went back to swirling sheets of rain..

40-45 minutes later, it ended in our area. My next door neighbor measured 3 inches on his gauge.. It sure made for something to talk about today with coworkers that’s for sure…

I saw 3 inches on my rain gauge, I don't think I've seen 3 inches on it after one storm since I bought it last summer. I'm not far from the I-80/680 split. It wasn't a violent storm just a lot of rain. Apparently just a small portion of Omaha saw 2-3 inches most of Omaha had less. I would say this storm made a nice dent on the drought at least in SW/Central Omaha area.

The HRRR (since yesterday evening) has been consistently showing the Omaha area getting some severe weather today/this evening. It's been very consistent with developing supercells/big hail producers in the area (northwest of town initially) and then having them move southeast across or near the metro.

The SPC outlook should update shortly. I wouldn't be surprised to have them include more of eastern NE in the threat area...

Simulated radar from the 10z HRRR showing what would be VERY large hail with storms northwest/north of Omaha (if it verifies as shown - somewhere nearby this will likely happen IMO though):

Yeah, I'm surprised they didn't shift it based on how consistent the HRRR has been with developing storms/potential supercells in our area. I guess we will see what happens...

Near 84th/72nd and L there were reports of 2” diameter hail (about egg size). I had quarter sized at my house in Millard. Unfortunately lots of damage I’m sure in some areas. My neighborhood I’m assuming most will need new roofs (again) though it didn’t last long here so who knows…

Stuff developing on the OFB just south of Omaha might weaken this storm shortly as it tries to move across the metro - quarter sized hail reports again in western Omaha though so far

Looks like the HRRR (and my thoughts about the potential) verified pretty well this time - still surprised the SPC hesitated to expand the risk area east today. Even had a relatively long lasting confirmed tornado east of Omaha in southwest IA earlier (southeast of Atlantic)…

Pretty nasty hail storm in SW Omaha. Although it didn't last long. Mainly some leaves knocked off trees, my rose Bush lost about half its roses. Hard to say if any roof damage. Then we had a heavy downpour around 9pm. More crazy weather.

Wow some parts of the metro have received a ton. In Bellevue, we got 1.25in from the last storm and .6in from last night, so overall about 1/2 of the amt your received. Glad that we didn't have any hail though and the rain is still a nice, decent amount. I love not having to water things...I have only run the sprinkler once so far this year.

Possibly some more big hail in the Omaha area tomorrow afternoon/evening. The 00z HRRR is depicting a potential supercell/big hail producer over Omaha around 7 PM. Impossible obviously to know if that will happen in Omaha specifically but close by anyway and something to keep an eye on…

The severe weather threat continues to increase for today in parts of eastern NE and western IA (including Omaha).

Supercells should develop late this afternoon/early this evening and produce a risk for large hail, damaging wind, and potential for tornadoes. Right now the highest threat is just east of Omaha into parts of southwest IA. To clarify, that doesn't mean Omaha is in the clear. Definitely keep a close eye on things later this afternoon.

The SPC currently has us in a slight risk with a 5% tornado threat:

Areas of southwest IA on south have been upgraded to an "enhanced risk" primary risk is large hail/damaging wind though a tornado threat does exist. I'll be targeting somewhere around Shenandoah, IA to start and adjust from there today.

So the NWS says "Severe Thunderstorms" forecast for today, tonight, and tomorrow. Albeit 20-30% chance we see one, but if we do, it is likely to be severe. Guessing based mostly on the hail threat.

Adjusting my target closer to Omaha based on visible satellite and the mesoanalysis. Storm initiation is trying to occur northwest of Omaha currently. If things fire soon (which they probably will), Omaha in particular could be at risk with a northwest to southeast oriented boundary over the area. If a supercell embeds on this boundary, large hail will definitely be a threat as well as some tornado threat.

There was definitely some broad rotation in the one that just hit most of Omaha. I saw it visually, and there was a hook on radar and a weak training beaver tail associated with it.
