Omaha head volleyball coach Matt Buttermore announced the Mavericks' 2022 schedule this afternoon. The 2022 slate features 4 non-conference tournaments and 14 home matches at Baxter Arena. Omaha made history with its first conference championship and 20-win season at the Division I level last season. They held a 20-10 overall record and 15-3 conference record making it to the Summit League Championship game. The Mavericks open the season with an exhibition game against Kearney on Aug. 20 before heading to Columbia, SC to take on Winthrop (8/26), South Carolina (8/26) and Sacred Heart (8/27).
The Omaha volleyball team's schedule for the upcoming Omaha invite has been adjusted. All three games will still take place on the same days, but the opening match between the Mavericks and Florida State has been moved by half an hour from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8. Likewise, Friday's neutral game between Creighton and Florida State has been shifted up an hour from 6 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lastly, the closing match between Omaha and Creighton on Saturday, Sept. 10 has been moved up two hours from 5 p.m to 3 p.m. This game will also be televised on Nebraska Public Network (NPM).
The Mavericks will make their regular season debut this weekend when the team heads to South Carolina for a three-game set in the Carolina Classic. Omaha begins the series with two games on Friday, opening things up against Winthrop University in the morning before taking on host University of South Carolina later that night. They will round out their trip with a mid-day tilt against Sacred Heart University on Saturday. All four teams will be making their regular season debuts this weekend.

In what may go down as the most thrilling match of the season, the Mavericks managed to hold off a persistent attack from Sacred Heart University to secure a 3-2 victory to close out the Carolina Classic on Saturday afternoon. With their road trip finished, Omaha will head home with a 2-1 record to start the 2022 season.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - McKenna Ruch is tabbed the TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week for the opening week of the 2022 season. Last week, Ruch had an outstanding showing through three matches in the Carolina Classic, leading all players in both the event and the Summit League with 22 blocks and 2.00 blocks per set. She also set a career single-game best with 12 blocks against Sacred Heart on August 27. A day prior, Ruch picked up five blocks apiece against Winthrop and South Carolina. This is the third weekly honor of Ruch's career, having earned the award twice in 2021.
The Mavericks will make their 2022 regular season home debut this Thursday when they host Wichita State University and University of Northern Colorado in the MH Hospitality Omaha Challenge. Omaha will open the series against Wichita State on Thursday, before wrapping things up things up with a match against Northern Colorado on Saturday.

We went to Baxter Arena this evening to watch Omaha get a very impressive win again a good Wichita State team. Wichita State had beaten Iowa State last weekend and took one set off of Creighton. UNO starts two freshman who are becoming difference makers along the front line. I'm looking forward to their matches vs Florida State and Creighton next week.
Playing in their season home opener, the Mavericks outlasted Wichita State University to win 3-1 at Baxter Arena in day one of the MH Hospitality Omaha Challenge. Omaha is now 3-1 to start the year, while the Shockers fall to 2-2. This win marks the first time the Mavericks have ever beaten Wichita State in the regular season, and is their first victory over the Shockers since moving to Division 1.
In one of the most electrifying ends to a volleyball match you will ever see, the Mavericks mounted a massive comeback to take down University of Northern Colorado 3-2 to close out the MH Hospitality Omaha Challenge on Saturday afternoon at Baxter Arena. Omaha improves to 4-1 on the season, while the Bears drop to 3-2. This was the first time the former NCC rivals have met in the Division I era, as well as the first time Omaha has come out on top since October 16, 2001.

VERMILLION, S.D. - In their first conference match of the season, the Mavericks and South Dakota went head-to-head in the long-awaited rematch of last year's Summit League Championship. Both teams were at their absolute best as things came down to the wire in set five, ultimately ending in a narrow victory for the first place Coyotes. With this loss, the Mavericks drop back below .500 at 5-6 and officially open Summit League play at 0-1. Meanwhile, the Coyotes improve to 12-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
BROOKINGS, S.D. - In the final match of their South Dakota road trip, the Mavericks battled hard in a back-and-forth battle against a formidable squad from South Dakota State, ultimately coming up just short in a 2-3 loss Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks fall two games below .500 for the first time this season as they now sit at 5-7 overall, and 0-2 in Summit League play. Meanwhile, the Jackrabbits improve to 7-7 with a 1-1 record in the conference.
In their first home conference match of the season, the Mavericks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 sweep of Western Illinois University late Thursday night. Omaha improves to 6-7 and picks up its first Summit League victory of the season (1-2). As for the Leathernecks, they drop to 4-12 and remain winless in the conference at 0-4.
DENVER, Colo. - Fresh off back-to-back shutout victories at home, the Mavericks hit the road and traveled to Denver, Colorado where they kicked off their three-match road trip with their third sweep in a row as they blanked the University of Denver 3-0 Tuesday night. Omaha is now back over .500 again as they improve to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the Summit League. Denver, who entered the day one game ahead of Omaha in the standings, is now virtually tied with the Mavericks for fourth in the league at 3-2 in conference play and 9-7 overall.

As for the Golden Eagles, they drop to 5-12 overall, but remain at .500 in the conference at 3-3.

Grand Forks, N.D. - The Mavericks closed out their final road match of the season in dominant fashion as they swept the University of North Dakota 3-0 for the second time this year on Saturday afternoon Omaha not only improves to 18-9 overall and 13-4 in the conference, but with North Dakota State losing to Denver, they retake second place in the Summit League with just one match to go. As for the Fighting Hawks, they remain the fifth seed at 12-15 and 9-7 in league play.

Vice Chancellor / Director of Athletics Adrian Dowell has announced a multi-year contract extension of head volleyball coach Matt Buttermore. Buttermore has served as the head coach for the last four seasons.
"We are excited to have Matt Buttermore leading our volleyball program well into the future," said Dowell. "He has consistently elevated the program highlighted by the 2021 Summit League regular season title and Summit League Championship match appearance while also being honored as the league's Coach of the Year. Matt continues to successfully recruit the incredible talent in our region and our volleyball student-athletes have performed exceptionally well in competition, the classroom and in the community. This extension signifies the importance of volleyball and women's athletics to this institution and our commitment to the program's success."
The Summit League announced that the Omaha Volleyball team earned six All-League honors before the first round of the league tournament Wednesday morning. Kali Jurgensmeier led the way as she took home Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Freshman Team, while Shayla McCormick and McKenna Ruch were named First Team All-Summit and Marriah Buss and Sami Clarkson earned Honorable Mentions.
