Yeah the NIL is having a big impact everywhere. Read an article where a basketball player has a deal with a Lamborghini dealer. Another has a deal worth $800k over 2 years. Oklahoma FB has a nil collective where they are talking about $40k-$50k that can be earned by every fb player. Another unnamed 5-star 2023 FB athlete signed a NIL deal that could pay him $8 million by the end of his junior year. He would start out with $350k
I have also read that at some schools, part of the NIL collectives are now paying the tuition for the walk ons. Makes it easier to take a walk on scholarship if someone else is covering tuition

Speaking of NIL, here a good read from The Athletic (you might need subscription). I would highly recommend the Athletic. I have been a subscriber for 2 years. They run really good specials for those thinking about trying. Sometimes as little as a buck a month.

Will be interesting to see if any changes or regulation comes to NIL (I think it will be difficult). I do think changes coming to transfer portal.

Here's the article:

Well they are going to try
NCAA trying to crack down on booster involvement in NIL deals

The NCAA’s Division I Board of Directors announced Monday that it has issued new guidance to schools “regarding the intersection between recruiting activities and the name, image and likeness environment.”

The guidance, which is effective immediately, specifically addresses the “collectives” established at schools across the country designed to pool funds together to attract top recruits. These groups are now deemed as boosters by the NCAA, which is still attempting to enforce its longstanding policies against “pay-for-play.”

Honestly I think the NCAA has kind of lost any control on NIL. If anything happens there I think it will be determined by the Power 5 conferences (with the most influence coming from the SEC and Big 10). If the NCAA remains relevant (probably determined within the next 12 months), they may be able to gain some control on the transfer portal.

Chuck Love to ‘move on’ from Nebraska
The former women’s basketball associate head coach had been suspended since February

Nebraska women's basketball associate head coach Chuck Love is officially out of the program. Love announced on social media Friday that he will be moving on from NU and "be with family and explore other opportunities."

The longtime assistant of head coach Amy Williams followed her to Lincoln for six seasons. He was suspended with pay in February for what was described as a “personnel matter.” This was at the same time Ashley Scoggin was removed from the roster. Williams at the time did not say who made that decision or why.

Husker hoops adds veteran guard from SMU to roster

Nebraska basketball added one more piece to its roster remodeling on Tuesday night, receiving a commitment and signature from an experienced hand in Emmanuel Bandoumel, a 6-4 guard who has started 68 games for SMU the last three seasons and is also known as a pesky – and lengthy – defender.

Lat Mayen will not be returning. He is turning pro in Australia. From what I have seen, these players can't get NIL money while in US (saw were Husker women's basketball player Jaz Shelly can only get NIL money when in Australia).

As NBA Draft nears, reviews come in on Bryce McGowens' stock

The 2022 NBA Draft is now only a few weeks away, and Bryce McGowens remains on track to potentially be the highest Nebraska player selected since Tyronn Lue in 1998.

With the NBA Combine in Chicago now in the books, the former Husker standout freshman has garnered plenty of positive reviews. Here is a rundown of reactions from McGowens' combine performance, his confirmed pre-draft workouts and meetings thus far, and his various mock draft predictions. The draft will be held on June 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Trey McGowens leaving Husker hoops to begin pro career

Trey McGowens’ run with the Nebraska basketball team is over. With an extra season of college hoops available thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, McGowens elected not to return to school, Nebraska announced Tuesday. McGowens will eye a professional career. He started 43 of the 44 games he played at NU, including all 27 games in his first season in 2020-21 and 16 of 17 games this past season. He missed 15 games in 2021-22 after breaking his foot Nov. 16 against Creighton and going through surgery and eight weeks of rehab.

"Basketball is what I've really done my whole life. I'd say my life pretty much revolves around basketball — (I'm) in the gym two or three times a day," McGowens said after returning from his injury. "So just being able — once you lose that, it just makes you appreciate it even more." McGowens averaged 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 41% from the field and 37% from three-point range, but it was on the defensive end where his presence was felt the most.

Atlanta point guard Chase Clemmons gives Husker hoops first commitment of 2023 class

The first piece of Nebraska basketball's 2023 recruiting class is in place. Chase Clemmons, a three-star point guard from Atlanta, announced Friday he was committing to the Huskers. Clemmons picked Nebraska over Houston and Tennessee State. He also had Georgia, Missouri, and Tennessee in his final six schools when he narrowed his list in February.

The 6-foot, 165-pound Clemmons is considered a consensus three-star prospect according to most national recruiting services. He also has a connection to Nebraska. Clemmons is close friends with Trey and Bryce McGowens, both of whom recently made the jump from NU to professional basketball.

This is good to see. Hopefully with the McGowens brothers headed to the NBA we can get more follow up recruits like this based on their success.

Former NU coach Paul Sanderford inducted into basketball Hall of Fame

Tiny Louisburg (N.C.) College now has two former coaches in national athletic Halls of Fame. On Friday, Paul Sanderford, former Louisburg, Western Kentucky and University of Nebraska-Lincoln women’s basketball coach, was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Sanderford won a national title at Louisburg in 1981 and later took his Western Kentucky teams to three Final Fours, including the national title game in 1992. He served as the Cornhuskers’ head coach from 1997 to 2002, leading them to the preseason National Invitational Tournament’s championship game in 1997 and three appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Sanderford compiled an overall record of 616 wins and 208 at his three schools and still holds the record for most coaching wins at Western Kentucky at 365. Sanderford was instrumental in guiding a fellow Louisburg coach, Terry Pettit, to Nebraska, where Pettit established the Cornhuskers as a national volleyball power.

Bryce McGowens Drafted by Timberwolves, Headed to Hornets
Nebrasketball has players drafted in back-to-back years for the first time since the ’90s

Nebraska basketball has put another player in the NBA.

One-and-done phenom Bryce McGowens was selected at No. 40 of the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night by the Minnesota Timberwolves. That is the 10th pick of the second round. Though McGowens was officially drafted by Minnesota, ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports the pick is expected to be traded to the Charlotte Hornets.
McGowens gives the Huskers back-to-back seasons with drafted players for the first time Tyronn Lue and Venson Hamilton were taken in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Lue is the last Husker to be taken in the first round, No. 23 overall by the Denver Nuggets. The Toronto Raptors took Dalano Banton in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft. McGowens arrived in Lincoln as a five-star prospect, the highest ranking for a Nebraska recruit since the current rating systems began. In his lone season under coach Fred Hoiberg, McGowens was a third-team All-Big Ten selection while averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. He was named the Big Ten Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press.

History of Huskers selected in the NBA Draft:

2022 Bryce McGowens, No. 40 Minnesota Timberwolves
2021 Dalano Banton, No. 46 Toronto Raptors
2019 Isaiah Roby, No. 45 Detroit Pistons
1999 Venson Hamilton, No 50 Houston Rockets
1998 Tyronn Lue, No. 23 Denver Nuggets
1994 Eric Piatkowski, No. 15 Indiana Pacers
1991 Rich King, No. 14 Seattle Supersonics
1986 Dave Hoppen, No. 65 Atlanta Hawks

Former Nebraska forward Isaiah Roby claimed by San Antonio Spurs

Former Nebraska forward Isaiah Roby was claimed Tuesday by the San Antonio Spurs. Roby, who averaged 8.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in three seasons at Nebraska, was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday after three seasons with the team. The Spurs absorbed the final year of his $1.93 million contract. Roby had the best season of his young career in 2021-22. The former Husker averaged a career-high 10.1 points while shooting career-best percentages from the field (51.4%) and from 3-point range (44.4%). He also averaged 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 21.1 minutes per game. He played 45 games and started 23 of the Thunder’s last 28 after returning from an ankle injury in February. Roby will compete against former Creighton star Doug McDermott for minutes in San Antonio.

Nebrasketball: Assistant Armon Gates Headed To Oregon

It’s been a few days since there was any real activity in Husker Nation so we figured that Friday would be a good day to have something come up. I mean, what is the point of the offseason if there isn’t some sort of random movement within the programs? It has been reported by On3.com that long time Nebraska Basketball assistant Armon Gates is headed to Oregon to join Greg Altman and his staff. Gates was originally hired by Tim Miles during his final season as head coach for the Huskers. He stayed on with Fred Hoiberg after Miles was let go of and specifically worked with the guards. This will be the third assistant that Fred will have to replace after Doc Sadler and Matt Abdelmassih were let go of earlier this offseason. Armon previously served as associate head coach at the University of Florida before coming to Lincoln. His older brother Dennis is currently head coach at the University of Missouri.
