Nebraska adds former starting UCF defensive back Brandon Moore

Nebraska football added yet another transfer to its secondary just two weeks before its trip to Ireland. On Monday afternoon, NU announced the addition of former Central Florida and Florida State defensive back Brandon Moore, who played for current Husker defensive backs coach Travis Fisher in 2017 at UCF. Moore started 21 games for the Golden Knights, then tore his ACL early in the 2019 season. He transferred to Florida State, then left that school in August 2021. He did not play last season.

He'll arrive at NU for his sixth-and-final year, presumably. The 6-foot, 180 pounder had 77 tackles and two interceptions over the 2017 and 2018 seasons with UCF. The Huskers' have strong competition at all four defensive back spots, Fisher said on Monday. "I got guys who are coming along, I’ve got who are a little bit banged up who are just coming back, I got guys can easily be in that first group, depending on how much they can get ready for this first game, I’ve got new guys coming in,' Fisher said. "It’s competitive throughout this whole deal, probably be throughout the whole season, it’ll be like that, as well. Overtaking a position can happen in a day, especially with how tight the secondary is as far as competing is concerned."

We are only 18 days away from the opener. Every year I never think football season will arrive, but here we are, just a couple weekends away. There's not a darn soul I've talked to that has unrealistic expectations about the 2022 team. We all seem to think the boys may hover around the even mark or even 8-4 would be a success. I think the opener against Northwestern is the most pivotal game of Frosts tenure. He has literally only won one opener in four tries... This time on a foreign turf and against a division opponent. There's a lot riding on this. Lose, and the season is basically over, nothing left to play for. Win and there may be enough confidence to start 8-1 or 9-0 and have the inside track to the B1G West title.

I really think the floor for this team with this schedule is 5-7, and even that would be a disaster given how easy the schedule looks... But I never count out the Skers to surprise me anymore, as I knock on wood.

On the other hand, everybody called last year's team the best 3-9 team of all time, and even though its tongue in cheek, its not really untrue at all. They really were just a few bad calls and bad plays from being 9-3 instead.

I think the boys are pretty much a lock to make 6-6 (again as I knock on wood), but I like their odds to go into the rest of the West race with 5 wins already under their belt. I'm pretty excited to see what all these transfers can do. It should be a totally different looking team, and based on the accolades of most of the transfers, I'd say it should be for the better. If it turns out that's the case, I could be very excited to watch the games this season.

Even though Northwestern is projected to be last in the West, I still think the Huskers win ugly due to it being overseas, and week 1 (or 0). I'll go with something the Skers scoring 35 or so and giving up more than 21... Enough for fans to take a sigh of relief, but not enough for us to to feel particularly confident.

I can't wait.

DEVIN DREW: The Texas Tech transfer defensive lineman was present at practice Wednesday, though he was spotted working off to the side on technique with a GA in the early portion of practice.
JUMPING JACKS: Last week at Nebraska’s open practice, the Huskers had to do “six perfect jumping jacks” (twice because Ty Robinson pointed out the first six weren’t perfect). Wednesday, Nebraska had to do “four perfect jumping jacks” before getting things rolling.

Let's hope they honor the '83 team by actually scoring well beyond last year's 27.92 ppg. 2015 was the time Nebraska average over 30 pts per game. Last time over 40? the 2000 team. I don't think anyone is expecting '83 like numbers with 50 ppg but 35+ is a reasonable goal.

As for the uniforms, the alternates I prefer, they look better without the shoulder strips.

That would be nice for sure.. But based on the past 2 decades of performance, I’m not holding my breath..

To me it seems like this season is set up for at least some success for Nebraska, at this point I would consider a 6 or 7 win season somewhat successful. I just can't see Nebraska completely tanking this season and getting only 3 or 4 wins. Frost has been around the Big10 long enough now that I believe he knows what it takes and has the talent in place to have a winning season. GBR !

Nebraska football announces throwback uniforms honoring 1983 team

The Huskers will be taking Memorial Stadium back to the '80s this fall. Nebraska football announced the program will be wearing throwback uniforms honoring the 1983 team. The jerseys include white mesh numbers and red stripes on the pants from the "scoring explosion" season. NU hasn't said which opponent the jerseys will be worn against.

But I agree Cermak, 6 or 7 wins is the floor, is acceptable, and is also the ceiling. I think the bottom line is they're gonna play like they did last year, but up against an easier schedule. Should lend them a few more wins.

Starting the season and winning by one score vs last year's dreadful trend of losing by one score(8 times including the opener)...that might actually be sweet dreams for Husker fans.

Yeah, you're right. Even if they were just to eek out a win in the first game, they would be almost a lock to start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2016. Seems weird to state that as a fact.

Scott Frost names Casey Thompson Huskers starting QB for season opener

The Huskers starting quarterback situation for the season opener is now officially set: Casey Thompson will be leading the way. Nebraska coach Scott Frost announced on Thursday's episode of "Sports Nightly" that Thompson will get the nod to start against Northwestern on August 27. ""I talked to the offensive staff about it. Casey's going to be the guy," Frost said. "But we've had a lot of guys playing well at that position. Chubba (Purdy) just keeps improving. Logan (Smothers) is clearly better than he was last year. Seeing a lot of good things out of (Heinrich) Haarberg. And Richie (Torres) is a super talented young guy. So I really like what we have at that position. I wouldn't be surprised if more than one play. But Casey's going to take the first rep."

The news of Thompson winning the QB1 race for the Huskers' Week Zero game does not come as much of a surprise. Heading into the summer and heading into fall camp, sources indicated to Inside Nebraska that Thompson had the inside track to win the job over Purdy, Smothers and the rest of the Huskers signal callers. Thompson did not relinquish that lead despite Purdy giving him a run for his money, and Frost said two weeks ago that the job was "his job to lose." Thompson has won that spot, and now the Huskers know who their leading man will be as they look to get the season off to a good start in Ireland.

Nebraska football will have four team captains for the 2022 season, and three are on the defensive side of the ball. Selected by a vote of their teammates were linebacker Nick Henrich, edge rushers Garrett Nelson and Caleb Tannor, and tight end Travis Vokolek. The selections were announced Saturday evening. Each is in at least his fourth season in the program, and the four have played a combined 112 games at Nebraska, including 62 starts, according to the Athletic Department.

Its game week baby! I'm looking for your official predictions for the Huskers vs the Wildcats in Ireland.

In the past weeks, I've been feeling much anxiety about the game due to it being in Ireland, against a division opponent, and the first game jitters, so my expectations had been muted... But now that its game week, and I've read up on some of the new players, I'm excited! I love some of the additions on both sides of the ball, and I'm excited to see special teams improve even if just a little bit...

I think Nebraska wins but after the last few years it's really hard to believe it too strongly. History shows Nebraska NW will be a great game and close but I actually am leaning towards a 10 point win.

This week is a great experience for the team. It makes me a little sad that for most of the players THIS will be the only time they will be in Europe . Hopefully that won't be the case and many can return someday.

I have been to Europe 3 times, in 2017, 2019 and this year. The first time I went I thought I would go once and that would be it. However, once I went I wanted to return, I had that good of a time.

Sometimes it's when you take these long trips out of your comfort zone in a strange land that a new outlook is presented to you or you see something you never thought you would see and it has a profound impact on you. Win or lose this is a fantastic opportunity and possibly life changing trip for the team and everyone associated with the program. GBR.

I'm a little bit surprised my prediction so far is by far the most decisive... And even my prediction was muted a little bit due to first game jitters, playing overseas, and a division game, along with a lot of new players... But you guys who have it close bring up some good points, Nebraska vs Northwestern has been close most of the time. I hope that won't be the case, I want a nice clean, stress-free game. Even most of the "professional" predictors have Nebraska scoring right at about 30, and Northwestern hanging out in the 10-17 range.

Theres our first over prediction. The over/under when I first checked was 50.5, and it is now 49.5, so slightly more people have bet the under, but not overwhelmingly so.

How many countries have you been to on those 3 trips?

2017 Italy, Switzerland, France & England
2019 France & Monaco
2022 Greece
So 6 countries altogether. Ireland looks great ! I'm Excited for the team to be there. Hopefully for some this will be the experience that makes them

Nebraska football awarded Blackshirts to nine players ahead of Wednesday's practice in Ireland. The defenders receiving the coveted honor include captains Nick Henrich, Garrett Nelson and Caleb Tannor, as well as Marques Buford, Myles Farmer, Colton Feist, Quinton Newsome, Luke Reimer and Ty Robinson.

EDGE Cameron Lenhardt commits to Nebraska over Michigan State and Penn State

Just two days after naming a top three EDGE Cameron Lenhardt originally from Staten Island who plays for Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy has committed to Nebraska. The Huskers won out for the talented edge rusher over Michigan State and Penn State. The Huskers have landed their 14th recruit in the 2023 class with Lenhardt. He is the second EDGE in the class joining Husker legacy Maverick Noonan from Omaha (Neb.) Elkhorn South. They are expected to be the only two EDGE rushers in the class.

Nebraska has gone on quite a rush lately. Lenhardt is the fourth commit for the Huskers in the month of July and the fifth defensive commitment in the class in the last month. Lenhardt only took an official visit to Nebraska and was in the process of lining up additional official visits. Besides Michigan State and Penn State there was considerable interest from Maryland too that he was considering. The recruiting efforts for Nebraska were led by coach Mike Dawson and coach Erik Chinander.
