Fast Food and a Coffee Shop (former Famous Daves 120th & L)
Willy and Greg Cutchall are two of the more important figures when it comes to pizza and fast food in Omaha. Willy's last venture lasted about 2 months when he tried to open another Godfathers on 180th and Dodge.
Cutchall is involved in dozens of concepts including Austin's at 168th and Center. I've heard that won't last much longer. That location is cursed. I've also heard Greg is battling cancer. Hope he pulls through.
Here's Cutchall's lineup: https://www.cutchallmanagement.com/

It seems like I almost always define "soon" differently than businesses do. lolPadre wrote: Sat Oct 23, 2021 8:29 pm On their website it says “Relocation announcement coming soon!”

No business intending to relocate closes up shop (and un-employs their entire staff) without first securing a new business address. Certainly not a large established corporation.

Famous Dave's BBQ (120th & L)
Any word on where the closed 120th & L Famous Dave's is planning on reopening? Their listing on Famous Dave's website still says, "Relocation announcement coming soon!"

Coffee is definitely a scooters, but I don't recognize the fast food floor plan.

We can rule out BK. As bad as many of Omaha stores are they seem to be better than many other cities.Brad wrote: Fri Jun 02, 2023 8:59 am Looks like a Fast Food and a Coffee Shop:

I'm acquainted with that guy. My wife went to high school with him. He's definitely a d-bag. I avoided Good Life for years because I didn't want to give him any of my money. Now that he's sold off Good Life I do occasionally patronize that place. I'll make a note to avoid that Burger Detour. Nothing against Burger Detour, I just refuse to give that guy my money.
On a side note, I heard he kept most of Good Life's assets in his mother's name so they couldn't be seized or frozen with all of his criminal/civil proceedings over the years. Purely rumor, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Just to confirm, the trashy Good Life Guy is the primary owner of Burger Detour? All of them or just this location?

Second, if he was found guilty of basically lying to cops and purposely hiding evidence why isn't he in jail?
Lastly, IF the above is true (he hid evidence and was found guilty), is this new burger place called Burger Detour a franchise or his own concept? If it's a franchise, WOW would they allow this asshat to be a franchisee?

I was wondering just the other day... how does this guy, considering his lengthy history, have the money to fund these large ventures? I've run a successful 4 location restaurant concept for 12 years, never embezzled, never hid evidence, never assaulted anyone. And I doubt I could get the money to open one more of my concept right now. Based on my experience, those burger detour buildouts look like they're well north of $1m a piece. Who is lending him that kind of cash? (Give me their number though.)

Re: Famous Daves (Austins) @ 120th & L
I'll argue forever that Daves was actually good in the early years when it was brought to Omaha. But, you could smell it cooking a mile away. They did everything in house, as the article said. Later, I heard more that it went the way of places like Applebees where so much was prepared offsite and, gasp, microwaved. I last went to Daves about 10 years ago and felt no need to go back. Not sure how the Bellevue location limps along with so many alternatives in the area.NEDodger wrote: Thu Oct 28, 2021 12:20 am I thought this was oddly timely. A few weeks ago I was at an antique store in the Haymarket and came across a copy of the 150th anniversary of Omaha book. Picked it up as I thought it'd be an interesting snapshot/time capsule bit of reading. I never knew this, but apparently Willy Thiesen is who originally brought Famous Dave's to Omaha:

I loved Famous Dave’s when they first opened, and for quite a few years afterward. Their garbage can lid platters were something to behold. I haven’t been back in maybe 5 years, since all of the Omaha locations closed.

I love BBQ and would probably eat it 7 days a week if the budget and my spouse permitted it. lol I tend toward the locally owned places and have my favorites, but for all the smack that gets talked about chains, Famous Dave's does some pretty decent crowd-pleaser BBQ. They have a broad menu, so if there's one or two people in your dining party that aren't big BBQ fans they have alternatives they can order. I especially like how they finish their ribs on the grill. Think char-buffed buffalo wings, but with ribs. You get the best of slow-smoked meat and flame-grilled meat that way. When the 120th & L location was open I used to stop in 2 or 3 times per year. Also, it feels like there's a LOT more BBQ competition in the Omaha metro area these days. Just within a few minutes drive of Famous Dave's defunct 120th & L location there's Hog Wild, Rib Shack, and Smokin' Barrel.

I need to try Smokin Barrel. been on the list a while now. Rib Shack was solid, but I don't think it measures quite up to J's or Mission Ave.ChadJK wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:44 am I love BBQ and would probably eat it 7 days a week if the budget and my spouse permitted it. lol I tend toward the locally owned places and have my favorites, but for all the smack that gets talked about chains, Famous Dave's does some pretty decent crowd-pleaser BBQ. What a fun spin on Taco Bell. They do have the Mexican Pizza there, so you could make a weak argument that they are, in fact, a pizzeria of sorts. loldjc311 wrote: Thu Aug 17, 2023 6:59 amSounds like he runs Taco Bells...Longlurker wrote: Wed Aug 16, 2023 10:44 pm I'm a Frachisee of a mid-sized regional pizza concept. I don't see a Building Permit yet, but there is a Plumbing and and HVAC Permit for a new Scooters Coffee on the South West Corner of 120 and L Street, where Burger Detour was going to build. There is also a second empty lot to the west of it with no permits.

Weird - so if they're going closest to the corner that would mean they're likely NOT using any of the existing rough-in work, LOL.Brad wrote: Tue Jan 27, 2026 8:33 am I don't see a Building Permit yet, but there is a Plumbing and and HVAC Permit for a new Scooters Coffee on the South West Corner of 120 and L Street, where Burger Detour was going to build. I guess it makes sense as a dedicated drive-thru restaurant won't require the same plumbing that Burger Detour would have used. Hopefully something comes along. I imagine it will NOT be a Starbucks

Nice to see that chain continuing its slow expansion in the metro. I like their food better than almost any other fast food chain. Their interiors are attractive as well.

I looked on Access Realty's website this morning and from what I can tell, it looks like they may still have two more spaces available on that corner even AFTER the Scooters is built. One is to the west (where the rough ins for plumbing had been placed for Burger Detour) and the other spot appears to be to the south of the Scooters. Unless I'm misinterpreting the layout.

Re: Scooters (former Famous Daves - SWC 120th & L)
When they redid the Fremont location for Freddy's, I never saw a banner. Was nothing untill they put the signs on the building.
There is supposed to be a Freddy's going up next to Taco Bell near the ACX theater, and I have never seen any coming soon banners there. Some dirt work has started now on what I think is the location
Not sure if they do banners for future stores.

I was wondering where that Freddy's was going. I think it was pretty smart of TB to put a store over there. It will only get busier as more homes and businesses pop up. Plus, that's our favorite theater to go to, so if we're not feeling like dropping $75-$100 at Backlot for four of us, we can head to the border for at least a little less!
