$325M beef plant planned for Glenwood, Iowa; project hailed as 'economic game changer'
Tim Johnson
A beef-processing plant planned for Mills County, Iowa, would bring up to 750 jobs to the area and have an estimated annual economic impact of $1.1 billion, officials announced during a press conference Friday in Glenwood.

Cattlemen’s Heritage plans to build a $325 million, 1,500-head-per-day facility in Mills County along Interstate 29 near the Mills-Pottawattamie County line, according to a press release from the new corporation. Construction would begin in spring 2022 and wrap up in late 2023.

“Cattlemen’s Heritage will fill a critical gap between the conglomerates and the outdated, undersized lockers and plants that aren’t equipped to meet the needs of consumers, producers or retailers,” said project developer Chad Tentinger, founder and owner of TenCorp. Inc., a cattle industry construction firm.

Jobs at the plant will have an average annual wage of $55,000 plus benefits, Tentinger said.
This should help growth in Mills County. The article has a breakdown of the potential economic impact, and it's big. Eastern Iowa counties in the Omaha Metro have not had the same population growth as Nebraska counties, so I am interested how that is also affected by this project even if its just a percentage point or two of faster growth in the next five than in the last decade.

Have they started construction? I can't pinpoint the site, but with 750 potential jobs, I assume much of the labor will be pulled from South Omaha. There is easy access to the general location of where I think the site is, but it's by the toll bridge.

No they haven't started yet. I think they are running into funding hurdles. It will be just west ofI-29 on the north side of the highway.

Looks like this is still in the works and planned for a 26 ground breaking.
