I must be an over analytical person but if I am going to view a clip about "cheep eats" I would rather they tell me before I play the clip how much is it $.00 and what is it.

I never especially considered Pizza King to be a “cheap eat”. It is a white table cloth restaurant. The pizzas are certainly tasty, but we go as much for the fried chicken as anything.

Omaha metro restaurants to support during Black Restaurant Week
Sept. 2-11 is Midwest Black Restaurant Week

This week, you have a chance to visit a restaurant you've never tried. Black Restaurant Week is a national initiative to connect locals to locally Black-owned eateries. It's also an opportunity to celebrate the flavors of African American, African, and Caribbean cuisine while discovering Black-owned restaurants and culinary businesses in our community. You're invited to Eat. Sip. Repeat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, less than 20% of businesses are minority-owned, so Black Restaurant Week is an opportunity to give restaurants a helpful boost.

There are several ways you can take part.
1. Dine at a Black-owned restaurant with your family or friends.
2. Follow Black-owned restaurants on social media. Like, share and post their content. Be sure to tag a friend.
3. Purchase a gift card, merchandise, or culinary products from a restaurant.

A new article in Eat This, Not That lists the best restaurants to get chicken wings in every state. For Nebraska, it's Oscar's Pizza & Sports Grille. 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole went to Oscar's to see what makes their wings the best wings in this week's Cheap Eats. For nearly two decades it has been the place to be for metro sports fans. "It is just a casual place to come with friends, family, coworkers and sports teams," Dustin Heng said. Heng is one of the co-owners at Oscar's. He describes the restaurant as... "A 7,500 square-foot Cheers," Heng smiled. Oscar's has more than 40 TVs and a huge multi-screen unit. But the atmosphere has nothing on the food. "Your restaurant is known for two things — what are they?" asked Serese. "Pizza and wings. Wings mostly," said Heng.

A good way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month is to get a taste of Latin culture. La Poblanita opened its doors in 2019. Since then, the owners' mission has been to keep their culture alive through their rich, authentic food. 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole got a tasty tour of Mexico in this week's Cheap Eats. It's a cozy space that serves traditional Mexican dishes. "We found this little place, and it felt like comfort — it felt like home," said owner Indalecio Penaloza. "It's a piece of Mexico we bring from there to here." It's just what Indalecio and Elizabeth Penaloza had in mind when they opened up the place. "This is what we call a mom and me restaurant," Indalecio said with a smile. His mother Elizabeth is from Puebla, Mexico.

Cheap Eats: The Churro Spot

Here at KMTV, we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. This week's Cheap Eats highlights a new Mexican restaurant here in the metro. The Churro Spot opened its doors this year, but the owner has been selling his fried doughy dessert for years. 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole checked out his sweet treats and more in this week's Cheap Eats. For Omar Garrido, The Churro Spot feels a lot like home.

"Whenever I feel at home, I know the food's going to be good," Garrido said. "For us in the Hispanic community, it's like you're walking into your aunt's kitchen or your grandma's kitchen." The idea came to him more than five years ago in Mexico. "I saw a lot of families, American families, crossing the borders just to pick up churros. The churros line was out the door, and I was just sitting there eating a churro myself and I thought we don't have a churro spot in Omaha. That was in 2016," Garrido explained.

Cheap Eats: Pulled BBQ Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — If you're a barbecue lover, there's a new restaurant to tell you about. Pulled BBQ Omaha has been open for about a month — but this it's not your typical barbecue joint. You won't find ribs or brisket there. As 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole reports, what you will find is something unique, fun and flavorful. Pulled BBQ Omaha serves their barbecue their way. "We're not your traditional barbecue place," said owner Cory Fuller. "People come in and say 'where are your ribs, where's the sausage?' I go, 'we've got some great places in town for that.' I'll tell you right now, I'll put our pulled meats against anybody." Fuller specializes in pulled meats — pork, chicken and beef — or as he's named it...

The Oink, the Cluck and the Moo. And then we have the Oink Cluck Moo which is the holy trinity, all three of them combined," he laughed. "Our concept is way different. We're more eclectic barbecue," Fuller added. "Are you the only restaurant in Omaha that solely sells pulled meat?" asked Serese. "Yes. We're actually the only restaurant nationwide that does this," replied Fuller. All the meat is pulled by hand, piece by piece.

Fuller's son Devon showed Serese some of their pulled dishes beginning with the pulled pork sandwich. It comes with provolone cheese, pickles and a heaping portion of pulled pork. It's topped with cilantro and comes with fries or coleslaw. "I don't even like coleslaw and I love this coleslaw," Devon admitted. The showstopper is a loaded burrito called Thee Omaha Fattie. It starts out with a generous portion of their five-cheese macaroni. "What else goes on this burrito?" asked Serese. "Well, it's called Thee Omaha Fattie — so everything," said Devon.

He wasn't kidding. There are sautéed onions, peppers and french fries! Then he added pulled pork and shredded gouda and it didn't stop there. He smothered it in their homemade queso and topped it with pico de gallo, sour cream, their house Sweet Sticky Sassy sauce and chives. "I've never seen anything like this in all my days!" said Serese. We weighed the burrito. It was two pounds of pulled perfection. If that's too much, there's the pulled mac and cheese. The MooCaroni is that same five-cheese macaroni with pulled beef and your choice of sauce. The sauces here range from mild to wild. The R.I.P is the hottest.

"I wanted hot people to have a sauce they're going to love but be able to eat. I can handle it but it's pushing it for me," he laughed. From the pulled pork sandwich to the sweet potato tots with marshmallow dipping sauce, it was bite after delicious bite. That's Fuller's goal. "I want to do what we do and be the best one at it. I want to make it to where you're going to come here for fun barbecue flavor. You're going to come here for some different types of dishes," Fuller said with a smile. Mission accomplished. Pulled BBQ Omaha is at 11036 Elm Street in Rockbrook Village. It's open Wednesday through Saturday. Fuller plans to have weekly specials. I have yet to try this new bbq place, but it is an interesting (I would call it odd) decision not to sell ribs, bone in chicken, burnt ends, etc. Time will tell if their specialization theme wins over enough customers.

From pizza to wings, Pop's Pizza and Experiments at Inner Rail Food Hall has something for everyone.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — There's a brand new pizza joint in town. Three weeks ago, Pop's Pizza and Experiments opened its doors at the Inner Rail Food Hall. One of the creators of the place is also the owner of W.D. Cravings. He's known for his pasta. But he's hoping to win over pizza lovers. 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole went to Pop's to check out the pizza but ended up loving his experiments, too. If there's anybody who enjoys a good pizza, it's chef Piero Cotrina. He says he's always wanted to make pizza. "You taste the sauce, the cheese, and you're like, 'man, this is good'," Cotrina said.

In this week's Cheap Eats, 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole went to Papillion to show us how a restaurant is giving customers a unique and delicious taste of Halloween. There's something ghoulishly good going on inside a downtown Papillion restaurant. "I love little spooky things," said Sauced By Alfaro owner Michelle Alfaro. Chef Alfaro is known for her creative concoctions. Now, she's cooking up something special just for Halloween. "We are going to wing it with our Hallo-wings," she laughed. Her Hallo-wing masterpieces come in three distinct colors and flavors.

Cheap Eats: Get Real Sandwiches

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — If you love a good sandwich, it's time to get real. Get Real Sandwiches is new to Omaha. As 3 News Now Anchor Serese Cole found out, the menu is seasonal, the ingredients are fresh and it's located in one of the metro's hottest food spots. "It's a great spot for walking around and getting drinks," said Aden Beck. Good restaurants aren't hard to find in Omaha's Blackstone district, but Beck says a good sandwich spot was. "A lot of these restaurants have great sandwiches but not a dedicated sandwich shop," he explained. That's where Get Real Sandwiches comes in. That's where Get Real Sandwiches comes in.

"It has multiple meanings as far as getting real ingredients, that real sandwich — then obviously that expression," Beck expressed. Chef Beck opened the restaurant in March. He makes homemade soups, salads and a variety of sandwiches. "A lot of people have their favorites, but then a lot of people come back and go through the whole menu," he shared. Customers keeping coming back for the Pork Belly Cubano Sandwich. "We use pork belly which kind of puts a little twist on the Cubano," Beck shared. There's also ham, Swiss cheese, house pickles, dijon and aioli and it's all loaded on a buttery, toasted Cuban roll.

The Smoked Fried Chicken sandwich is another favorite. "We do our fried chicken a little differently here," Beck demonstrated "Exactly," replied Beck. There are also fun cocktails on the Get Real menu like the Isn't it Ironic, Head Over Feet and Hand in My Pocket drinks. "We're big Alanis Morissette fans. We were listening to Alanis and were like wouldn't that be funny to name all the cocktails after her," he laughed. Turns out, this little sandwich shop has a little of everything. "We've got the pork, the chicken, the beef, the turkey, the veggie — a lot of these sandwiches have been done before, but not the Get Real way," he smiled.

Get Real Sandwiches is at 3901 Farnam Street. The restaurant is open every day except for Monday and they cater. Go to getrealsandwiches.com for details. The soup special this week is the Smoked Brisket Chili. The other special is a Thanksgiving sandwich made with turkey, stuffing and gravy. It'll be on the menu until Wednesday, November 23rd.
