Shouldn't their taco special be on "Taco Tuesday"? Or are they going for a "Mexican Monday" sorta thing?ita wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:28 pm Sorry to get away from the Sbarro conversation, but I just had Amigos-King's Classic today. Picked up the special, 3 tacos for $3. It's solid for a fast food taco. Spicy salsa is pretty tame, but was pretty good. I came in with low expectations, and they exceeded it with the cheap tacos I tried. It's good enough that I will come again.

Amigo's is an anomaly for me. I drive by it all the time in my whole life, but I never get it. My brother even worked there as a teen, and yet I've still only had it once or twice in my entire life. I'm betting the drive thru setup at the one on 84th & Dodge is the reason why I never go.ita wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:28 pm Sorry to get away from the Sbarro conversation, but I just had Amigos-King's Classic today. Maybe they run this special so they don't compete with all the other Taco Tuesday deals? It got me in on a Monday, when I otherwise wouldn't even consider them. Haha. Apparently, Tuesdays is crispy burrito Tuesdays at Amigos.djc311 wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 1:40 pmShouldn't their taco special be on "Taco Tuesday"? I like their enchiladas, though quite frankly, if I go to Amigos/Kings I usually get the burgers. They’re better than you would think they would be.
A while back they had one with a fried egg on it. It was a limited time thing, and I was sorry to see it go!

I used to go to the Amigos on 48th and Leighton in Lincoln. But then it closed a couple years ago. They had really good tacos. That's what I would usually get whenever I went there.

Having just returned from our home South of the Border I had to scratch my head at a Mexican acquaintance who bemoaned the fact that he had made a recent visit to a local Carl’s Jr. (a/k/a Hardee’s)to try their veggie burger, and felt ripped off because it tasted bland and cost him over $200 pesos (USD$10).
I don’t know why people keep eating at these places and expecting to enjoy their food. My friends visiting from Florida decided to skip the street tacos I went for ($16 pesos each) for Church’s Chicken, and felt it was overpriced for what they got.
To each their own.

I’m in agreement with you on this. I’m not the biggest Amigos fan. Their food overall is definitely “meh” to me. About the best thing on their menu is their crisp meat burritos.. But if you order from the Kings menu, their options are better overall,,and the burgers are much better than most would think..and underrated from a fast food standpoint. Their burgers are not better than Don & Millie’s or Runza; but better than BK or McDonald’s imo…Padre wrote: Mon Sep 26, 2022 2:22 pm I like their enchiladas, though quite frankly, if I go to Amigos/Kings I usually get the burgers. I love both the crisp meat burrito and their version of a soft taco. I also love dipping their mexi fries in the ranch dip they have.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Oct 01, 2022 4:01 amI’m in agreement with you on this. I’m not the biggest Amigos fan. Amigos just can't seem to grow. They open and close stores pretty often, always hanging around 25 or so stores. Maybe that's their comfort zone.

I'm happy they have more of an Omaha presence than they used to. IIRC, the only Omaha locations for years was the one at 84th & Dodge and I think there was once one in Oak View Mall's food court. Now there's several around the city (though, not any on the east side).Bob from Omaha wrote: Mon Oct 03, 2022 1:41 pm Amigos just can't seem to grow. I did a search on Sbarro just to make sure its still on for the 90th & Blondo Kwik Shop. It seems like it's still on, and even saw some job postings listed just today. And I don't know how accurate this is, but the search also turned up 1904 North 168th street as a Sbarro location. That is the same building where Marco's is at 168th & Blondo. Is Marco's on the way out? And would Sbarro have a standalone location. I don't know, that one doesn't seem to add up to me, but that's what the search yielded. At any rate, I'm very excited to have my Sbarro back after ~ 8 year absence.

MAAAAANNNNN. I just got the Diablo Dare from Arby's with the loaded Diablo Fries... And MAN, they mean it this time. Last year's was pretty tame, but this year is knocking my socks off! And I'm no stranger to heat! This is genuinely HOT.

For comparison, it kind of looked like they cued off of BK and their Ghost Pepper Whopper. Which, I'll add, I tried that about a week ago, and I really enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near the level of hot of the Arby's Double Dare. It is the hottest fast food item I think I ever had, and I think that was also a point in their commercial. Kudos to them for the follow through.

Yes, it is roast beef. There's like a jalapeno chutney on it, as well as some other really spicey sauce, some lettuce, and a slice of cheese. And the bun is kinda orange with some dark bits (assuming fried onions like what's on the Beef & Cheddar). Man, it lit me up! And I'm a fanatic of the spicy fast food releases. This one takes the cake. I got mine at the 72nd & Giles location. It comes with a vanilla shake just like last year's Diablo Dare, but this time, I absolutely needed it! Not even a few bites in.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Oct 29, 2022 4:04 pm Diablo Dare.. Is that a roast beef sandwich?…

I'm guessing it'll only be around til Halloween, so if you like spicy food, it is a must try! And on top of it, it was very tasty, not just hot.

I might try both as well. The flavor of this sandwich was ON POINT. The quality is what you'd expect from Arby's. The beef wasn't great, but not bad. What you expect from Arby's. The Cheese could have used some melting. I always lament their use of shredded lettuce, so I took that off. But if you have the ability, I would suggest taking it home and putting a leaf of green lettuce on it. So there is room for improvement in the quality and the presentation. But as far as flavor goes, it was the BOMB.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Sun Oct 30, 2022 7:34 am Yeah, the commercial looked like a chicken sandwich. I might need to try both…

The Diablo BBQ sauce was the BOMB. And the topping of Jalapeno, and the Fiery seasoning was the BOMB. This is hands down my favorite new fast food item of the year. https://www.arbys.com/menu/limited-time ... -sandwich/
And probably my favorite fast food item since the Nashville Hot Brisket sandwich at Firehouse Subs (which I miss dearly still).

The sandwich I had yesterday just totally knocked my socks off as far as spiciness goes. I didn't go more than two bites without taking a sip of my shake. And as I said earlier, I'm no stranger to heat. I've been searching for this type of heat in a restaurant item, and I finally got it. Maybe the staff when I got it really lathered me up. I freakin loved the heat and the flavor.
Since then, I've had the song "Hurts so good" stuck in my head

I tried the Chicken version today. I LOVE the Diablo BBQ sauce. The chicken patty was pretty weak. Almost a chicken nugget haha. That's exaggerating, but it was small. It needed about 33% more to be like, acceptable... Its like there was a chunk missing. But I won't dock points for that, I'm sure it was an exception. I didn't find out about the chicken patty 'til I got home, but I took the crappy shredded lettuce off and I had some green leaf lettuce at home and added that. I makes a world of difference. If only Arby's could see this, the shredded lettuce thing is hurting every single item they make. They need to get off that train ASAP.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:43 am I tried the Diablo Roast Beef sandwich from Arby’s this evening. It’s definitely as advertised. It really is, and to say it knocks it out of the park would be an understatement. Both times I had it, it knocked my socks off, and I have no complaints other than the lettuce. That Diabolo BBQ sauce and the Diablo seasoning is the bomb! And Kudos for going all in and getting the loaded fries too. I did that the first time, but man it wrecked my GI, so I said maybe just the sandwich next time, and that was just fine. I figure I'll get it next week and once a week, and I feel that most likely I will be lucky, or that will be the last time since nobody knows when they will run out. If my inference is correct, this was a Halloween related item, and I'm slightly surprised you can still get it almost three weeks after the release and two weeks after Halloween... Welp, fingers crossed, I'll get it again Saturday or Sunday. This sandwich really packs a punch and I love it.

I’ve enjoyed the Diablo Dare series both times I’ve ordered it thus far. I’ll probably try the chicken sandwich iteration with the loaded Diablo fries just to check it out for myself. Like you, I completely agree they should can the shredded lettuce- it simply isn’t needed on this sandwich..

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
I had the Diablo roast beef again, and this was the best yet. They put some love into this one. Really makes me wish they were here to stay. I could eat these twice a week. So if I had one on Saturday, I'd be ready for another on Monday. Actually the one I had today was so good, I really wanted another! But I knew what a nightmare that would be tomorrow.

I highly recommend the Big Mac sack deal when the McRib is around. I got it two weeks ago and might do it tomorrow. Get a Big mac and get the other one for free. And also get the McRib meal (fries and drink included), and add the other McRib for $1. Only works on Monday after a Husker game where they got a sack, while the McRib is out.
You get two Big Macs, two McRibs, medium fry and medium drink for $15 something. Its a great hack this time of year when football is on and the McRib is out.

I just so happened to go to the 168th Walmart tonight, and I drove up 168th ave... A total traffic jam, in both directions, at 10 PM! I guess it opened today? My goodness. I almost couldn't even get to the Walmart. Is it that damn good?
A bit of a side note, that area has been developed for about 15 years. Surprising it took this long to fill in, and that a new to market restaurant would choose that spot. Was it cheap? Or do they see the NW Omaha area about to take off?

Yeah lots of activity in this vicinity. You've got the new Elkhorn North just west of there, plus the OPS Westview north and east. Add in the arrival in the next couple years of Costco and Fleet Farm. Not to mention all the housing and apartments being built. The area I think has also been aided by the 180th st extension.Busguy2010 wrote: Tue Nov 15, 2022 12:16 amI just so happened to go to the 168th Walmart tonight, and I drove up 168th ave... Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
So my question is, has anyone weathered the long line of cars at the drive thru, or actually went inside, to sample Church’s Fried Chicken and their sides circa 2022?..
If it’s anything like the 1980’s or 1990’s before Church’s bailed on the Omaha market, one might do better just going to a less crowded Popeye’s..
So for those that have tasted the 2022 version of Church’s- What say you?…
Ciao..LiO…Peace

Church's was pretty good. I'd love to try them again.

Re: Fast Food Talk Thread
Was in Chicago Monday-Wednesday coaching a high school hockey team. Played all but one game at the Blackhawks practice facility near the United Center (it was cool and we got a behind the scenes tour, amazing facility). There was a Church's chicken next to it. We there with a few families between games.
I thought it was really really good. Had 3 pieces of spicy chicken, sides and biscuit. I would rank the chicken as good or better than Popeye's. The sides were really really good (I didn't have the fries, the boys said they were average). Many went with the Chicken sandwich. The boys put it just under Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich but close.
I live near the one in Omaha but haven't been yet because every time I go, they are still packing them in.
