May be a waste of a topic, but i wanted to officially wish everyone on the forum a happy and safe Halloween!

I was starting to forget how much I hate Halloween until I drove through the Old Market last night and then it all came back.

After the UNO Hockey Game I was going to meet a few members of the forum down at Urban or Myth. I drove to all my regular parking spots and they were all full. I went to the fail safe plan of parking on the 10th street bridge... full. I circled around by the post office and people were even parking there! I figured I would swing through the market one more time just in case something opened up and as I pulled up to the stop sign by Spaghetti Works, some guy with a Beer Box on his head walked up to my front bumper, put his hands in the air and stared screaming.... Then it all came back to me and I went home.

I know Halloween is an excuse for chicks to dress like whores, but its also a license for IDIOTS to be bigger IDIOTS!

Once you are 14, Halloween should end. There is No Santa, There is no Easter Bunny, There is no Halloween!

Naw, it wasn't me. I was tucked safely away at home in suburbia. I had 130 kids show up at my door. Halloween was a blast this year.

I kinda jumped the gun on Christmas though. I took advantage of the nice weather and put up my x-mas lights Sunday. I usually wait until the first nice weekend in November to do it, and it just so happened to be on Nov 1. Oh well.

I thought about it. However I threw away most of my old outdoor Christmas stuff due to old age/ hail storm. I don't take mine down until the roof is good and warm. This year I am going to buy all new LED lights to save energy.

At fist I thought it had to be some of those seasonal "Halloween lights" but sorry, the colors were all X Mas. Too soon in my book. If you are going to put them up before Halloween at least leave them off. They were on more than one evening too so it wasn't just a test.

Hay, I don't have an issue with anyone that wants them on by Mid November and by all means take advantage of the weather. To have them ON in October is a bit much though.

So Halloween is probably my second favorite holiday, even as an adult. It just brings out those memories of dressing up as a kid and going trick or treating. I love the decorations, the spooky vibe, the chill in the air. I don't really do anything anymore but put up decorations and hand out candy... And speaking of which, it seems like I hardly get any trick or treaters anymore. I know there's kids in the neighborhood, but the trick or treating is absolutely nothing compared to when I was a kid. Even like ten years ago you just could barely drive through the neighborhood there were so many kids out... Now, this year, I had a total of six groups come by. Started coming by around 7, and I quit by 8:15 they were so sparse. It kinda made me sad. So what's the deal? I know they do that (I think stupid) trunk or treat thing nowadays, but has that really taken over as the primary means of celebrating Halloween?

I did go out to the grocery store around 9 last night and it was fun seeing young and older people alike dressed up just grocery shopping.

Oh yeah, and also there was this guy driving around in his jeep with the top off, string lights and spider webs, and he was driving around with his posse of zombies.

I am not sure how accurate this number is because we were out with our kids trick-or-treating, but my neighbor counted over 400 kids in our neighborhood in Bellevue. Granted, we have a ton of families with 3-5 kids but that is awesome to see.

Maybe because OPS didn't have classes today they were out later. I was still seeing people with small children ever after 8. And lots of adults with "coffee" cups.

Harvey Oaks here. Our youngest kids are pretty young so we don't get very far. A few cul-de-sacs mostly, out about an hour. Seems like less kids were out this year, but more people passing out candy. There been a lot of houses sold over the last couple years, so that might have changed demographics.

My childhood neighborhood is in a similar situation at the moment out in Millard. Neighborhoods just go through phases I suppose, from being full of younger kids to older kids and empty nests.

I think the new suburbs are to blame. People will drive their kids out to newer suburbs and not trick-or-treat in their own neighborhoods. As a kid, I'd always trick-or-treat in my neighborhood since few people did and got whole bags of candy sometimes.

This is a real gem I just came across. Ernest Scared Stupid. One of the first movies that scared the |expletive| out of me, and now that I'm watching it, it makes me laugh. It's so corny, but it has all the ambiance of Halloween and it brings back so many memories.

Housing developments tend to age as a whole. Young families and new parents buy new houses in new developments. So, like Garrett said, they go from young kids to older kids to empty nesters. When I was a kid there were dozens of us kids walking around. The last year I lived at home with my parents and handed out candy we got like 3 trick-or-treaters all night. Now, I'm in a newer development and we probably get 100+ kids every Halloween. I'm sure that will dwindle as the years progress.

The problem builds on itself. Fewer trick-or-treaters means fewer houses with porch lights on handing out candy. So, the few trick-or-treat age kids left drive out to a friend or family in a newer development and trick-or-treat there instead.

I did see some commentary about how we're overdoing Halloween now. It used to be maybe a classroom party and costume parade at school and then trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Now, thanks to every church, non-profit, and PTO, the kids have a half-dozen trunk-or-treats and "Boo at the Zoo" and whatnot before Halloween even gets here. I think some of them are just over it by the time the 31st rolls around.
