Creighton had their secret scrimmage today at Iowa st, and I heard that the Jays won by 20+ and Baylor almost had a triple-double!

Nembhard Named to Bob Cousy Award Watch List
Sophomore is one of 20 men listed, but only BIG EAST representative

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that Creighton's Ryan Nembhard is one of 20 candidates on the watch list for the 2023 Bob Cousy Award. Named after Class of 1971 Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy, the annual honor, now in its 20th year, recognizes the top point guard in Division I men's college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

Sounds like maybe a season like Doug's senior year for ticket sales....got this info from the blujayunderground page: (and I also just checked the Nebraska game and there are probably less than 50 tickets remaining) I knew this season would be a hot commodity, but I didn't think it would be selling out before the season even starts.

It looks like from Ticketmaster there are only about 800 or so seats available for the exhibition game on Sunday. From what I can tell the least sold game is Holy Cross with about 900 seats left but a lot of those single game seats get sold in the days leading up to them. Is there any chance this whole season sells out?

Right now it's pretty much a given that Nova, UConn, and Nebraska will be sold out. There are no pairs of tickets for Nova, and Nebraska. There are only 15 pairs left for UConn. In general I can't imagine the conference season not being completely sold out by the time it gets here.

Men's Basketball Ranked Ninth in Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll
Team is also ranked 9th in preseason AP poll

The Creighton University men's basketball team has earned the No. 9 spot in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll, released on Tuesday afternoon. It's the highest preseason ranking in the coaches poll in program history. The Bluejays are one of two BIG EAST Conference teams represented, joining No. 17 Villanova. Creighton' will face the Wildcats twice and also play against No. 12 Texas and No. 24 Texas Tech. The Bluejays could also play No. 10 Arkansas and No. 20 San Diego State at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. Other confirmed or potential teams that dot the Bluejay schedule and are receiving votes include Connecticut, Providence, Xavier and Ohio State.

Jays blew out Drury, as expected. 109-57.

Baylor had a sweet behind the head no look pass to Kalk, who also had a great one handed slam. Trey Alexander had a great tomahawk poster dunk and Kaluma led the team in scoring.

Best thing was no injuries while getting the reserves some playing time.

This team looks loaded!

Six Bluejays score in double figures in 109-57 win over Drury in exhibition

Preseason No. 9 Creighton dominated Drury as the Jays returned to action for the first time since March. The Bluejays shot 60.3% from the field, led by sophomore Arthur Kaluma who went 6-for-7 for a team-high 17 points. South Dakota State transfer Baylor Sheierman made his debut in CHI in a Creighton jersey. The senior guard recorded 14 points and a team-high 7 assists.

The competition was pretty weak, but they were certainly enjoying themselves out there. No look passes, lobs, and 30 foot 3s. This team put on a showcase.

100% agree, but I think we might be seeing some more of these things in bigger games as well....as long as they don't stupidly turn the ball over in key moments, I am fine with them.

Wow that was ugly, maybe they will wake up a little more next game. Granted Creighton doesn’t normally shoot 23% from 3, if a few more fall it would have been a 25-pt win.

Wake up call indeed.. A “reading our press clippings” performance..

If memory serves, the Jays had a similar early season performance last year…

Early last season was similar but that team didn’t have the expectations that this team does. It just seemed like the thought tonight was going to be a cake walk and they just went through the motions, thankfully the defense came to play in the last 9 min of the game.

Ninth-ranked Creighton trailed St. Thomas with under 10 minutes to play, but a late run propelled the Bluejays to a season-opening victory.

Arthur Kaluma led three Bluejays in double-figures as No. 9 Creighton opened its 2022-23 season with a 72-60 victory over St. Thomas.

Anyone else go to the game last night?

I was really excited for the light show, and hopefully with more notice, more people will participate, but there weren't that many doing it last night. Everything as far as presentation for the game seemed a bit off. Obviously this was the first real game but maybe they should have worked some of those kinks out during the exhibition.

Also was weird having Josh Jones and the dj at the game, didn't seem to fit well.

Much better game by the Jays tonight. They would have won by over 40 but N Dakota scored the last 6 on two 3’s.

Overall the Jays shot much better and Kalk had a career-high 24 pts. Also good to see some of the new guys get some good minutes.

A big year is anticipated from the Jays this season. Hopefully they can go deep in the NCAA tournament. After the frustrations of the Nebraska football and Basketball program it's so nice to have at least one local team that knows how to win, Go Jays !

I think we all know but Scheierman is really fun to watch. He does all the little things, but also hits deep 3's and he had a really nice behind the back dribble last night to avoid the defender, then a few seconds later hit a big 3 from the logo.

Reminds me of Wragge shooting the 3's but also like Ryan Hawkins for doing all the little things.

This should be a fun year.

McDermott took Creighton to its first Sweet 16 since 1974 in 2021, lost all five starters from that team and still won an NCAA Tournament game last season. Though it's hard to quantify, McDermott also deserves a lot of credit for reestablishing the program after its transition from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East for the 2013-14 season.

Seems a bit low of a ranking for Mac. Oh well, if he leads the Jays to an Elite 8 or better appearance, his stock will rise significantly…

The Creighton men's basketball team is ranked 10th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll. Jays win 94-65.

Nembhard finished with career-high 12 assts. Kalk finished with 23 pts on 10-10 shooting and has made his last 19 FG attempts.

Good win for the Jays…one more easy one Thursday until it gets tougher next week in Maui.
