List and Ranking of Urbanized Areas

I find the list in the following link pretty interesting. I like how this method attempts to compare actual urbanized areas. The data in this link is based on the 2010 Census. If anyone is aware of something similar based on 2020 data, please share.

This report is the 2022 world urbanized area report from demographia. Starting on page 23, it ranks the largest urbanized areas in the world. Omaha clocks in at #654; and larger than peer cities like Tulsa OK, Birmingham AL, Fresno CA, Rochester NY, and Grand Rapids MI..

That built up square mileage though.. Ooof. Really puts that other thread about urban footprint into perspective when we have a built up area of 271 square miles and Liverpool, UK, with about 7,000 more people, is only 77 square miles.

Granted, it's not as bad as Birmingham, AL, with 30,000 fewer people and a built up area of 530 square miles.

Right. I'm curious about their methodology for calculating built-up area. I've been to Birmingham once and it didn't appear that sprawly.

Right. I'm curious about their methodology for calculating built-up area. I've been to Birmingham once and it didn't appear that sprawly.

I think most of what you want is pages 2 through 6 or so.
