No defense from the jays losing 45-49 at half. Shooting much better than the past 2 games. 8-13 from 3 after going 10-40 last game.

Need to figure out how to double and not let byu have such an advantage inside without Kalk in there.

Yet again, another terrible loss for Creighton. They didn’t give up and forced a ton of turnovers at the end and hit free throws but for some stupid reason reef took the final shot when we had a chance to win the game and missed it

Late Flurry Comes Up Short As #21 Men's Basketball Falls in Las Vegas to BYU
BYU scores final four points to win 83-80

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A frenetic 12-0 run in the final four minutes gave Creighton an 80-79 lead in the final 30 seconds, but BYU's Dallin Hall tipped in his own miss with 12.6 seconds left to lead BYU to an 83-80 upset win over the No. 21 Bluejays on Saturday night at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas as part of the Jack Jones Hoopfest. The loss offset a career-high 27 points from Creighton sophomore Arthur Kaluma, who fouled out with 6:32 left. Creighton played without All-BIG EAST center Ryan Kalkbrenner, who was sidelined by illness.

Kalk is probably going to be out again tonight. Hopefully others can pick up the slack.

On a side note, he leads the nation in FG%!

As expected the Jays fell out of the Top 25, they are now receiving votes to place them #40. (I am actually surprised they are still getting votes after losing 4 straight, especially to NE and BYU)

Another collapse for the Jays. Lost 71-73. Had a chance to tie it but didn’t drive to the hoop and instead took a contested 3 and for the 2nd consecutive game in Vegas, can’t get it done.

The only positive of the night:

King’s line:

16pts, 11 rebs and 5 blocks!

Unfortunately, Mac chose to play reef and Farabello at the end when the Jays were only down 2

Men's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play With Loss to Arizona State
Bluejays open BIG EAST play on Friday at Marquette

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Freshman Fredrick King had 16 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots but it wasn't enough as Creighton lost 73-71 to Arizona State at Michelob ULTRA Arena as part of the Jack Jones Hoopfest in Las Vegas, Nev. The Bluejays, playing without All-BIG EAST center Ryan Kalkbrenner (non-COVID illness) for the second game in a row, lost their fifth straight contest to fall to 6-5 in non-conference play. Arizona State won its eighth straight battle to improve to 10-1 on the winter.

Good guess...haha

It is so hard to understand right now....how do you go from 6-0 and rated #7 in the country to losing 5 in a row? I still think the biggest loss was to NE (at least all the other games have been close) I know a lot of people online are attacking Coach Mac and stating that having one guy out shouldn't make this big of an impact, but when that is your most veteran and tallest player that you depend on for scoring, spacing and defense it does.

Last night Fred King really did a great job being prepared and hopefully knowing that he is going to be depended on at least in the short term, he can continue to be ready.

The thing that needs to improve is the shooting of the other big 3 returners from last year (Art, Trey and R2) they haven't been playing up to their potential at all especially offensively)

I missed it that Kevin Willard went to Maryland after Seton Hall replacing Mark Turgeon. I never like any of them, after Danny Manning left… Watching UCLA play Maryland this evening.

Thank goodness he left, he was one of my least favorite big East coaches along with Hurley from UConn.

The one positive other than another Baylor double-double:

King follows his 16pt, 11 reb, 5 block game with a
16pt, 10 reb, 3 block game!

Crazy stats of tonight’s game:

CU won these categories:
FG %
FT %
Rebounds
Assists
Blocks

Obviously it didn’t matter, but crazy that we won all those categories and still should have lost by double digits if not for a few garbage buckets.

Just looked at Kenpom and Creighton is still ranked #33, they have a strength of schedule of 16.

The season isn’t over, if they can turn things around quickly they still have a chance to have a good season.

Funny thing is, even after the loss to Marquette they moved up... now #31 with a SOS of 15.

Can't argue that CU's SOS is hefty. Despite their early meltdown, the teams haven't all been pushovers.

That is true, although they do need to get back on the winning track sooner rather than later. It is crazy to think 7 of their last 8 have been away from home (Maui, Austin, Las Vegas, and Milwaukee) I am sure they will be glad to be back this Thursday, hopefully the weather won't be too bad so they can actually have a decent crowd.

Well deserved for the King.

Just wish there was some sort of timeline for Kalk's return, they haven't even really came out to say what it is, although most people believe its mono. Unfortunately with mono, the timeframe can be different for everyone. At this point, hopefully they just sit him out until Jan 3rd vs Seton Hall. That would be some more nice rest for 2 weeks.

Not Creighton, but goes to show when your best player is out, it is tough.

At least Creighton didn't lose to a 3-9 at home that has a 356 rating on Kenpom like Iowa did today. Same recipe that Creighton lost to NE by....shooting a ton of 3's and not hitting and also not playing D. What an embarrassing loss for Iowa today. Hopefully NE can take it to them when they meet up in their next game.

Another side note to the Iowa loss. They closed as a 31.5 favorite today. NO men's college basketball team had lost outright as a 30-pt favorite in the last 30 years.
