I hope it doesn't look like the Tallest in Oklahoma City. I've never been a fan of that building. From the renderings I've seen it looks to be somewhat different than Devon, plus it will be over 100 feet shorter. Exciting times for Omaha.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
I was driving back from Dallas this past Wednesday after spending the Christmas holiday with family/friends, and driving through Oklahoma City, once again, viewing the Devon Tower- it is an impressive skyscraper..but always seems a bit out of place along the skyline as no other building comes close to it in height. Their skyline looks unbalanced due to this.. That said, I do like the tower..
I don’t believe the Mutual Tower will look much like the Devon, based on the renderings we’ve seen. And Omaha’s skyline will look much more balanced due to our 3 tallest being- 677, 634 and 478 feet respectively..Compared to Oklahoma City’s 3 tallest- 844, 500 and 493 feet…

OKC really has nothing besides that tower. Some tallish buildings, but the Devon also sits on 2 blocks of parking lots right next to it.Cermak wrote: Sat Dec 31, 2022 3:59 pm I hope it doesn't look like the Tallest in Oklahoma City. I was saying a while back, we could go taller and still look fine IMO

Too funny. We were driving through OKC en route to Dallas on Monday and I thought the exact same thing. Nice building, but it looks more like a monument or something out alone by itself.

I've never seen the Devon Tower in person, maybe my opinion of it would change if I saw It in person. It is a really tall building, not that many cities have an 800 ft building. It does have sort of a monument look about it. Which I don't care for.

Right on lol. It’s an impressive building no doubt..But the Devon Tower pretty much stands alone..NEDodger wrote: Sat Dec 31, 2022 8:11 pmOmaha Cowboy wrote: Sat Dec 31, 2022 4:20 pm I was driving back from Dallas this past Wednesday after spending the Christmas holiday with family/friends, and driving through Oklahoma City, once again, viewing the Devon Tower- it is an impressive skyscraper..but always seems a bit out of place along the skyline as no other building comes close to it in height. Once the Mutual Tower is completed, Omaha will have a much more balanced and more impressive skyline than Oklahoma City IMO…

I drove by this the other day, it looks like it's ready for some work to start very soon. The library came down pretty quick without much if any problems. I remember when the old Medical Arts building (Professional tower) was demolished it was a much more time consuming and difficult project. Hopefully the construction starts soon.

From what I’ve been told (see my previous update post) work is actually happening now. It might not appear as much, but it (work) is happening and in process..
Shortly after the January 25th “Official Groundbreaking Ceremony”, is when we’ll start seeing the heavy duty equipment and work commensurate with the beginning construction of a 44 story skyscraper…

A "TEMPORARY USE PERMIT" (For the ground breaking ceremony) and a Building Permit for "FOOTING & FOUNDATION" were both summitted on 12/22/2022 and both are still "pending".
The building permit list "JE DUNN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY" as the contractor.

Relatively new to the forum however I’ve been lurking ever since I moved away from Omaha back in 2019. I’m now in Lincoln but increasingly looking to moving back to the Big O! I’ve always considered myself to be pro-development and to see Omaha come into its own and then some is really exciting to see. Over the years I’ve seen many building rise, Landmark Center, UP, First National, Capital District etc etc. Sadly I’ve also seen many fall. The old Woodmen, Medical Arts, Jobbers Canyon and that list goes on. I love downtown Omaha and can’t wait to see it come alive with the redeveloped Riverfront parks, Mutual’s commitment to downtown along with the long sought after streetcar, Project Next, North Downtown, Luminarium, Millwork Commons, The Mercantile, Blackstone and Midtown Redevelopment and everything going on across the river....wew! That’s a lot. I’m most excited to see the Mutual of Omaha Tower transform the skyline and take downtown to a whole new level. Exciting times for Omaha!

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
Welcome to the forum, Stvbec. Indeed, for our size, we've got a lot of stuff going on. If you recall all those 70/80's demolitions, you'll remember how depressing downtown was already by this time as well, underutilized or abandoned. When I was in high school in the early 80's, the unlucky clique member got pushed out of the car on a dark Jobbers Canyon alley late on a Friday night, before we came back around to pick them up. It was a scary place.. along with the prostitutes hanging around at the corner of 19th and Dodge (next to the iconic, circular Western Union office). Lots of great development underway now, but downtown Omaha is a far better place even today, than it was 20+ years ago. Way more residents for starters, thanks to all the apartment/condo conversions. I think with redevelopment of the Logan Building at 18th and Dodge, there isn't much left in downtown which hasn't been given new life.
Shoot for the Moon... if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

I wonder if they are going to dig the hole any deeper and remove the concrete walls on the edges ? This site cleared up really fast. The library came down quickly with minimal issues. Looking forward to the construction phase to start . It was about a year ago that this project was announced.

At some point, when this tower stats going vertical, we should have a forum meet up at GLM (just a spitball idea as it’s been awhile since we’ve had a forum get together)…

From Lincoln. It’s been a while since I’ve been up there in the Big O! Every time I come up there’s always something new to see. I haven’t even seen the newly rebuilt GLM so I’m stoked to visit.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
Hello All, long time reader, first time coming into the forum. I'm happy to be here among you a d very excited to what lies ahead for Omaha! Yes I'm very excited about the Mutual of Omaha tower, but there's so much going on in this whole metro area it'll make your head spin.
A little about me. I'm 55, born and raised in Omaha. I left in '99 for Minneapolis, right before FNB tower was to be built. Sadly I missed alot of that but I was able to follow it thanks to this forum because I started reading this forum just before that. So you can see I've been around and have witnessed many of Omaha's misses, like the great wall of the Hilton hotel, which should've been a marriot 28 story tower, much love to UP but a 19 story block cube..really? and the absolute fail of city not getting HDR downtown. I think that was a loss of some significance. And of course who can forget the epic fail on manys part of signing off on a Con Agre suburban office park downtown. I won't touch the subject of Jobbers Canyon because reading this thing over many years I damn well know it's a sore subject so I'll leave it at that.
But I'm back in Omaha after being gone for 22 years so I thought I'd finally join you all.
Like I stated before I've watched from the outside as I watched Omaha become the burgeoning city that it's becoming. When I got down here I've decided to get re acquaintanted with the area. I've taken many site seeing metro road trips and what I've seen is really astounding. That not only Omaha and it's burbs ate growing but all the little towns and area around this metro have some economic growth and some type of building going on. From way eastern Pottawattamie county to Blair and Washington County, past Wateroo and Valley to Fremont and back down to Cass. It's truly remarkable what's going on here.
Rambling a little but happy to be part of this and see this Mutual of Omaha project rise with all of you!

Yes- this would be he official groundbreaking ceremony with the Mayor, Mutual’s CEO (James Blackledge), and other civic/city leaders involved with the project..as to the time, I’m not 100% sure; but if memory serves, these groundbreakings usually are planned for mid mornings (10-11am)…Athomsfere wrote: Mon Jan 23, 2023 5:40 pm What time is the groundbreaking? Mutual of Omaha to break ground on new 44-story skyscraper this week
Construction on Nebraska’s newest skyscraper will break ground this Wednesday. According to Mutual of Omaha, the company will break ground on its new 44-story headquarters at the west end of the Gene Leahy Mall near 14th and Farnam this Wednesday at 2 p.m. A ceremony for the groundbreaking will be held on the east side of 14th Street between Douglas and Farnam Streets.
The 677-foot skyscraper is slated to become Nebraska’s tallest building when it’s completed in 2026. It will also be the tallest building across a large portion of the midwest, outmatching all other buildings in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota, and Wyoming. According to Mutual of Omaha, the skyscraper will have roughly 800,000 square feet of space for offices, meeting spaces, and amenities. The first 15 floors of the building will be used as a parking garage with space for 2,200 vehicles. The garage will also be open to the public during the evenings and weekends.

I pulled this from the architect's website. Don't know if it's already posted, but a rendering from the new GLM.

That garage is massive and CPP barely comes above the 15th floor in this rendering.

Well, that certainly is a 15 floor parking garage flanking the tower. Wow.
Slightly off-topic, those are interesting reflections of a couple taller buildings in the MoO tower's glass, presumably located physically behind Brad, I mean the anonymous photographer. Not that anyone on this board, myself included, would ever think those may be indications of yet-to-be-announced towers near the ConAgra area...

I would doubt it. Just placeholders te make the render appear more realistic. More of an artistic touch by whoever the architect had so the renderings.almighty_tuna wrote: Mon Jan 23, 2023 10:55 pm Well, that certainly is a 15 floor parking garage flanking the tower. Wow.
