Completely agree. Having the #1 and #2 tallest buildings in the region makes us look more like a going concern, rather than a backwater that had delusions of grandeur and put up a tower. Add another taller building on the old UP lot and we'd really be rolling along.
I had family from California visit Omaha for the first time a few months ago. While driving back from the airport, they noticed the skyline and said something like "oh, so Omaha is like a real city." Right or wrong, these kinds of things absolutely shape how outsiders view us.

For sure. I always have fun when I run into tourists and they ask about say the FNB. I always start with "where are you from"... And one of my favorites is KC. Because then I can start with "That's the FNB tower, 11 feet taller than your guys' tallest building".halgy wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 2:41 pmCompletely agree. Brought a boyfriend from Fort Wayne, IN home a few years ago and he was shocked that downtown was so big, and then was impressed at midtown, and then the med center, and then even the Methodist-Children’s complex. Omaha has a lot of high rise clusters that other cities of a similar size just don’t.Athomsfere wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:18 pmFor sure. This is true. And while it is nice, I also often wonder why we never pushed some of the north and South just a little, tiny bit more.Garrett wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:25 pm

A couple of midrise buildings out towards the Zoo. Or South of Dodge on 72 with some transit just seems like low hanging fruit.

This. It wasn't the best Chinese Food I've ever had but they had huge portions and real Hong Kong style chow mein instead of the chop suey "chow mein" most places serve with La Choy noodlesita wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:58 pmBefore he does About Schmidt 2, he needs to do something with King Fong's first.Athomsfere wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:50 pmI'm glad I am not the only one that has been thinking this.Hawkeye wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 11:57 am Now we just need Alex Payne to step up and make another film locally. So When I was on St Louis and K C. I was impressed with the old and New buildings. Omaha doesn't come close IMHO. Still looking forward to the new building.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
It's funny you say this because I initially though the exact same thing as I was monkeying around and plunking the MOOT in. But then I realized that with the orientation of the original 20-whatever-story Marriott set to run north-south along 10th St.....it wouldn't actually be visible in this particular image. The part of the Great Wall of Hilton that is visible in this photo is the east-west oriented wing.BobbiDon wrote: Tue Jan 31, 2023 2:09 amReally beating a dead horse here, but envisioning this shot, with the proposed Marriott instead on Hilton! *drool emoji*Hawkeye wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 10:16 amSo maybe somethin' sorta, kinda like this?? But semantics notwithstanding, from even a slightly further zoomed out perspective (and from many other perspectives) that Marriott tower most definitely would have made a big impact.

I talked to my exec contact at Mutual this afternoon and I was told he was in a meeting yesterday regarding the HQ tower construction; and that all systems are still a go. There have been hiccups here and there, but everything is still on track with no forecasted delays…

That is a relief, hopefully we see some activity soon. Thought we would have a crane or at least some other construction equipment on site by now.

Thank you. I appreciate any information you can provide. I don't believe it is uncommon for there to be a bit of delay or downtime between a ground breaking and the start of actual construction. I think it was actually 2 or 3 weeks between ground breaking and the start of actual construction for the Joslyn expansion. However, I might become concerned if several months pass and nothing begins. Otherwise the only real concern I have is this talk of rebidding and all the dust kicking at the state level. I have no doubt at all that Mutual will build on this site but I truly hope it is not scaled back in any way. Any information you can provide in this regard and about projected start date is most appreciated. Thanks again.

That's what I was thinking at first but then I saw that the 6 x Guadalupe tower in Austin took about that long. It is 865 ft and had delays due to COVID. So I was kinda hoping it would be a shorter amount of time than 2-2.5 years....I guess we'll see!Omaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Feb 08, 2023 5:25 pmTopping out? For massive projects such as this HQ’s tower, there are a lot of moving parts and naturally, a few hiccups will be experienced. So it’s not isolated to Mutual and their specific HQ’s Tower..
That said, from all indications I’ve received, it’s all systems go with no delays and NO scaling back of any kind.. I think it’s natural to look at any bit of info that might point to a hurdle to jump over as a stalling, delay, scaling back- ultimately leading to the failure of the project getting off the ground- the mistake is, because this all happened with Townsend and their proposed condo tower, it means pretty much nothing compared to a Fortune 300 company with sound financial backing building their new corporate HQ’s. It’s apples and oranges..Really…
The more information I receive, I will definitely share here

I think a lot of us have PTSD from past skyscraper failures. Glad to know this one has built-in fail-safes. If I had to hypothetically give up on all other proposals for one singular project - this is the one I'd want to survive.

Any time I'm anywhere near downtown, I'm already imagining MoO Tower standing there and it just gives my goosebumps. Especially from distances where you can see FNB. Like coming out of the zoo and heading to the parking lot. FNB is amazingly visible from that vantage and to know that soon there will be an even taller scraper standing next to it (albeit a bit down hill) makes me giddy.

Just trying to help keep everyone’s perspective grounded, along with providing solid, nuggets of intel which will shed light on the process of getting this skyscraper off the ground (pardon the pun, lol)..edsas2 wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 6:11 pmYou're keeping me from going nuts, Cowboy. Thanks for the intel.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Thu Feb 09, 2023 2:49 pmAbsolutely and you’re welcome..omahahawk wrote: Wed Feb 08, 2023 10:12 pmOmaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Feb 08, 2023 5:23 pmIt’ll happen. No perceived delays from what I’ve been told. I’ll get more intel this Sunday as well. We’re all good with this project. Don’t think for a minute we’re not…skinzfan23 wrote: Wed Feb 08, 2023 4:25 pm That is a relief, hopefully we see some activity soon.

The more information I receive, I will definitely share here…

I think a lot of us have PTSD from past skyscraper failures. Glad to know this one has built-in fail-safes. If I had to hypothetically give up on all other proposals for one singular project - this is the one I'd want to survive.
It’s very easy for some to overreact to a “hurdle” then project delay and failure of this project..I don’t see this happening with the Mutual Tower HQ’s project at all. It’s a process..a 3 year process..But once we start to see things go vertical, I believe the doubting will fade away..and very quickly…

Sure looks like Dunn employees marking out areas in the construction layout/parking block. You have to zoom in to see the marks. https://public.earthcam.net/omahariverf ... glm/view_1
