Much less than a full can of any size, so I don't really get this idea that there are tons of people who can't physically manage it. If you're really in that situation the city has programs to do it for you. Plus you have the half size eventually.
I guess less about the weight, but it is extremely awkward to handle. Not saying I can't handle it but it makes taking out the trash even more of a chore than it was before. I said that earlier too, I think I'll be one of the first in line for the smaller one.

I will say this, I'm excited to have more recycling capacity with these bins. We used to fill our small bins within a day or two before.

I’ve been happy with the new service. The recycling can is awesome so much more room than before. No complaints so far. And the cans are less likely to blow away.

I would agree. Few bumps at the beginning, but overall a much better service than before.

Overall I'm happy as well, after Christmas it was a bit close now that we don't have unlimited recycling, but I just saved some in the garage for the next time.

I know many people who are more serious about recycling than me so they'll probably hit the new limit frequently. Hopefully they stop talking away drop off sites so there are still convenient places to take extra recycling.

Overall I'm very happy with it. Wayyy more efficient than before... And I got used to the size of the cart. I still barely fill it halfway, but the capacity will probably come in handy come yard waste time. My favorite part is the trucks. They are really really cool. I've been quite impressed by the machine's ability to reach the cans despite the snow drifts we've built up since they started the service. That was one of my doubts, along with parked cars, but they do just great. They get through the neighborhood in a flash, and it is much less labor intensive than before. Almost makes trash service seem like an appealing job.

Yeah, things seem to be running a lot more smoothly now.

I do like the bigger containers, especially the recycling ones. I don't have to break down boxes to be as small to fit.

My neighborhood has seen it's first truck by 6:30am the past several weeks. Our trash is usually picked up before 7am. Recycling isn't too far off those times either.

I wonder what goes into the timing. I've had them come through as early as about 6:30 and as late as 3:30 in consecutive weeks. Doesn't really matter to me. Actually I like when they come through later, gives me a better chance to see those cool trucks. They most often come through around noon or 1 in my neighborhood.

I cant be the only one that mistakes a neighbor pulling their trash cans back to the house for thunder. It just happened. I mean, it is cloudy, so I real quick jumped up and looked out the window to find it was just my neighbor pulling their cart back to the house.

Omaha to compost Council Bluffs' yard waste, boosting Oma-Gro
Nancy Gaarder
Those who treasure the City of Omaha’s nutrient-rich compost will see a temporary increase in the availability of Oma-Gro in another season or so.

Council Bluffs will be bringing its yard waste to Omaha’s composting facility for at least a year. The change was made after the company accepting Bluffs’ yard waste ceased doing so.

The arrangement will add about 30% more yard waste to the city’s composting operation, said Jim Theiler, Omaha’s assistant public works director.

I thought they stopped OmaGro. A lot of what I collect goes in the trash can until the fall period where I may fill upwards of 30 bags each week. I think their period lines up okay, but I wish it started a little bit earlier. I'd like to see mid-October as a start week. And to be honest, the compost isn't great. Its all leaves. And they're leaving it up to some 500,00 people to sift out rocks and plastic. It ain't gonna happen. I've bought OmaGro once and didn't care much for it. And in a way, you should be able to drive down there and get it for free, it being a city funded operation. If I have to pay for it, I'm just gonna buy compost in bulk from one of the local landscaping businesses.

Random question : anybody know how the city dumps the 55 gallon drums at the city parks? Anybody ever seen it done recently or in the past? Its like a unicorn to me as i'm unlikely to ever see it. Some of the locations of these drums suggest theyd have to have some sort of all terrain vehicle, but theyd be heavy enough to need some sort if mechanical arm thing to pick them up. How often do they do it? Any answers are appreciated.

I realize I'm responding to a post from December, but just kind of browsing tonight... I've seen it happen several times in the neighborhood park on my morning walk. A city pickup truck with a low landscape bed will drive off road directly to the bins They physically pick the drum up and dump it in the back of the truck. They don't appear to be as heavy as they look. Not sure on frequency. I haven't been doing my morning walks with much frequency with the colder weather this winter, but recall seeing them with some regularity (maybe weekly?) when the weather was nicer.
