It’s a bad loss in the sense that now the Jays winning the regular season conference championship is all but over, which is what I meant in my prior post.. Now it’s Marquette in the drivers seat to win it..and it could have been the Jays..It was all set up for the taking, but the Jays let it slip out of their hands with sloppy play the first 10 to 12 minutes of the 2nd half..

In any case, let’s hope CU finishes strong. Winning at Villanova Saturday, a team on the uptick lately, would be a nice shot in the arm before finishing out the regular season with Georgetown and DePaul…

#19 Men's Hoops Comeback Falls Short in 73-71 Loss to #10 Marquette
Bluejays rally from 10 points down but come up just short

Tyler Kolek's go-ahead basket with 28.7 seconds left lifted No. 10 Marquette to a 73-71 road win at No. 19 Creighton on Tuesday night in front of a sold out crowd of 18,006 fans at CHI Health Center Omaha.

I've got nothing to add that hasn't already been said about last night's game. So here's a gif of my frustration

Haha, mine too. Always sucks after a loss like that. Thankfully it was to the best team in the Big East but still.

That said, the Jays really lost this game the 1st 10 or so minutes of the 2nd half when they turned the ball over 7 times, couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean and played inconsistent defense.
I agree they lost the lead in the 2nd half by being sloppy with the ball. It has been mentioned thoughout this season about the amount of turnovers they have per game and the turnovers really cost them this game.

Kaluma was really missing in this game, and I’m starting to think this isn’t the exception, sure he hit the 3 3’s last game but outside those he was terrible then too.
He seems to ‘disappear’. I know after last season and in the preseason there was a lot of talk about him having a big season and going in the NBA draft. He hasn’t shown that much consistency this year. Hopefully he doesn’t listen to all the talk about nba and stays for at least another year.

At least at this point, I can't imagine anyone in the NBA would want him.

Thankfully tomorrow’s game is at the Wells Fargo Center, Creighton seems to play much better there than at Nova’s on campus arena.

Creighton looking for bounce back win on Saturday against Villanova

The No. 19 Creighton men's basketball team is looking for a bounce back win on Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia to face off against Villanova. The Bluejays fell just short of a huge win last Tuesday when they lost 73-71 against No. 10 Marquette. With just three regular-season games left before the Big East Tournament, Creighton will be looking to start playing their best basketball for the stretch run. With a win against the Wildcats, CU would sweep Villanova in the regular-season for the second time in 10 seasons as a Big East rival, joining the 2013-14 campaign when CU won 96-68 and 101-80 over the Wildcats.

Creighton would also improve to 13-5 in league play, matching its 2019-20 BIG EAST record when it tied Villanova and Seton Hall for the conference's regular-season title. Tomorrow's game is scheduled to tip-off at 11:00 a.m. CST and will be broadcasted right here on Fox.

Marquette 14-3 .824 22-6
Xavier 13-5 .722 21-8
Providence 12-5 .706 20-8
Creighton 12-5 .706 18-10
UConn 10-7 .588 21-7
Seton Hall 9-9 .500 16-13
Villanova 8-9 .471 14-14
St. John's 7-11 .389 17-12

Should be a good game with teams with similar styles but Nova has been playing really well lately.

Men's Basketball Falls at Villanova As Kalkbrenner Surpasses 1,000 Points
Creighton hosts Georgetown on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 17 points and surpassed 1,000 in his career, but it wasn't enough as No. 19 Creighton lost to Villanova 79-67 on Saturday, Feb. 25 inside Wells Fargo Center in downtown Philadlephia. VIllanova (15-14, 9-9 BIG EAST) won for the fifth time in its last six games, while Creighton (18-11, 12-6 BIG EAST) lost its second game of the week after a 9-1 stretch.

Tough game, R2 was nowhere to be found and Bello can’t hit anything. Kaluma did have a nice game, too bad it didn’t happen against Marquette.

Need to win the next 2 vs DePaul and Georgetown

Iowa had a huge comeback today against a mediocre Mich St team. Say what you want about Coach Mac, but glad we don’t have this asshat as our coach:

This is during a timeout with his team down 10, where he should be coaching.

I've resigned myself to the fact that the remainder of the season & postseason will likely result in significantly more pacing around the living room, yelling, and a flip of the coin as to whether it's gonna be a hot or cold shooting game. Inconsistency seems to be the only constant.

This team has been really inconsistent.

Just checked....here is their record in games decided by 5 or fewer points:

2021-22 : 8-2
2022-23: 3-6

Inconsistent seems to be the trend with this team this season- same with shooting % and turnovers..

Thing is, they are really a good defensive team..and if they could jut find a consistent shooting groove, it would serve them well in both the Big East and March Madness Tournaments…

Agree, I was talking with a friend the other day and we both agreed there hasn’t been a game all season where everyone on the team has clicked. I don’t know if it’s chemistry or just bad luck but hopefully they can keep up the defense and everyone can string some games together like they did somewhat during the 8 game win streak.

As of now it looks like there’s around 1000 seats left for tomorrow nights game. We are giving out free white shirts to the first 10,000 fans.

Kalkbrenner Named Semifinalist For Naismith Defensive Player of the Year
Junior center is one of 10 men on the list

Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner is one of 10 semifinalists for this year's Naismith Men's Defensive Player of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Tuesday. He is the only BIG EAST representative on the list. Kalkbrenner leads the BIG EAST with 2.31 blocked shots per game, which also ranks 16th nationally. In league play Kalkbrenner paces the conference with 2.71 blocked shots per game. Kalkbrenner also leads the nation in field goal percentage (.709) this season and tops a Creighton team that has spent eight weeks in the Top 25 with 14.8 points per game.

Yes. And if they can find that “on switch” to make it click and all come together, this is a VERY capable team..talented enough to make a deep NCAA tournament run…

Greg McDermott mentioned he asked all three of Scheierman, Farabello and Mitchell about being honored tomorrow as fourth-year players. Farabello and Mitchell opted not to.

"Reef and Belo, their intentions are to come back."

Tonight should be a pretty winnable game vs Georgetown. Jays are picked by 18.

Could this be Patrick Ewings last time in Omaha as Georgetown head coach.

He has had an incredibly rough road. Patrick Ewing is likely, other than maybe Allen Iverson, easily the most celebrated player in Georgetown Hoyas basketball history..and the prized pupil of legendary coach John Thompson. As a fan of college basketball, I’d really hate to see it happen..

From a productivity business standpoint, I’d understand it..but still would not like it…

Fast Start Propels Men's Basketball to 99-59 Senior Night Win Over Georgetown
Bluejays open game with 19-0 run and never trail in home finale

The win lifted the Bluejays to 19-11 on the season and 13-6 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown closed the regular-season 7-24 overall and 2-18 in conference games

Yeah, Georgetown sets a pretty low bar on the path to victory. But, it was an excellent confidence builder and sendoff for the last game and on through the postseason. Hopefully Trey can find that big 3 energy consistently next week.

It was weird having senior night on a weekday evening, anyone know when that has happened last? Usually it’s on a Saturday which is nice for the seniors speech.
