No excuses..

The Jays played like total sh!t overall, and were completely dominated by the Musketeers..

I’ll give Xavier credit- they completely outshot and out hustled the Jays tonight..About the only bright spot was the play of Kalkbrenner..but that’s about it.. A sickening loss..

CU needs to lick their wounds, recover from this beat down, and get ready for the Big Dance next week.. The NCAA selection show is late Sunday afternoon..

Men's Basketball Earns Bid To NCAA Tournament
Bluejays face NC State on Friday in Denver

The Creighton men's basketball team is returning to the NCAA Tournament for the 24th time in program history and eighth time in the past 12 years after earning an at-large bid to 2023 Men's Basketball Championship. The sixth-seeded Bluejays (21-12) will meet 11th-seeded North Carolina State (23-10) on Friday, March 17 at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.

The winner of Friday's's Creighton/North Carolina State game will meet the winner of the game between third-seeded Baylor and 14th-seeded UC Santa Barbara.

I like the 1st round match up. The Jays as a 6 seems pretty right on..

If the Jays play Baylor in the 2nd round, Kalkbrenner could have, and needs to have a big game…If the “right” Jays team shows up, I think CU can win. Baylor’s guards are a tough match up- But R2 and Trey are not slouches in any way..

FT % : 76.2 (#25 in the nation)

Glad to see this, but I wish the 3% was higher this year.

Yeah, NC State is very winnable, but they gotta have all of their poop in a group to move past Baylor. That said, if the good Jays show up consistently (yeah, i know) I'm betting on their last game being played in the Elite 8. If they continue the well documented hot/cold Jays, Baylor will thump them.

Trying to find cheap tickets for Friday’s game in Denver but with fees, even the cheapest is $100 each for the session. It’s about 1/2 that at most other tournament sites.

Anyone else thinking of going?

Junior center picks up third recognition of the day

Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner picked up his third honor of the day as the junior big man was named as an All-District VI pick by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. Within the past five hours, Kalkbrenner had also been named All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as well as one of four finalists for Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club.

Kalkbrenner leads the BIG EAST with 2.2 blocked shots per game, which ranks 18th nationally. The Florissant, Mo., native ranks second in CU history with 192 career blocked shots and anchors a Bluejay defense that led the league during conference play in scoring defense, scoring margin and field goal percentage defense. Kalkbrenner is also second on the team with 6.2 rebounds per game.

The list of eligible players for the Naismith Trophy Men’s Defensive Player of the Year award is down to four men and Ryan Kalkbrenner is one of them. The others are all guards, Jaylen Clark from UCLA, Chase Audige from Northwestern, and Caleb McConnell from Rutgers. The award will be announced Sunday, April 2, at the Naismith Awards Brunch presented by Frost Bank during the Final Four in Houston.

Kalkbrenner leads the BIG EAST 2.2 blocks per game and he’s second on Creighton’s all-time list with 192 career blocks. Kalkbrenner is also the central figure in a defense that led the BIG EAST during conference play. Ryan has already been named the 2023 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, he also won the award last season.

Good game! Kalkbrenner took advantage of the foul troubled NC State big men. My first time really watching this team. Big defensive plays by Kaluma and Trey down the stretch. Clutch 3 by Schreierman. Good win for the Jays.

Long ago, it was said the Creighton lived and died on their 3-point shooting. It’s a good thing they had kalkbrenner today and NC State shot 3 pts just as bad otherwise they would be following Iowa State home.

Since I had to follow the game on a sports app - did Mason Miller injury involve his knee.

It was a struggle, but the Jays found a way. I suspected Kalkbrenner would have a big tournament and he delivered today. Nice games for Kaluma, R2 and Baylor..

Creighton will meet Baylor in Second Round on Sunday

DENVER, COLO. -- Ryan Kalkbrenner had a career-high 31 points to lead sixth-seeded Creighton men's basketball to a 72-63 win over 11th-seeded NC State on Friday afternoon at Ball Arena in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Kalkbrenner's outburst surpassed Creighton's single-game scoring record for an NCAA Tournament game set by Doug McDermott in 2014.

Creighton (22-12) will now face Baylor, which defeated 74-56 in the first game of the day in Denver. NC State ends its season with a 23-11 mark.
