Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024

Post by Greg S »

The 2023-24 team will get a jump on the season with a 9 day trip to Spain to play some games as well as see some of the amazing sites in Spain. (I went there with a group from Central at the end of high school and it was one of the coolest places I have ever been, just amazing country to visit)

I am assuming Hoiberg is back next year? Wondering if an announcement will be made?

I have high hopes for Ramel Lloyd Jr. next season. Long, athletic, versatile.

Yeah I think it’s a pretty much a done. Maybe only an announcement if they put an extra year on how current contract.

Although he has not officially been retained, here's an article on the importance of the year Hoiberg is facing:

Nebraska C Oleg Kojenets has entered the portal. Not a real shocker and not a loss. Averaged less than a point a game. Hopefully lands somewhere where he can succeed:

If he was not going to be retained and they were going to make a change, I would think that his dismissal would have already happened.

A good read on Hoiberg's off season to do list. I agree on convincing Tominaga to stay, not sure the odds on it though:

Robin Washut was on 1620 yesterday. Said the Huskers #1 transfer portal priority was:

1a: Point Guard
1b: Center

Washut confirmed NU’s interest yesterday on 1620. As a proud Omaha Central grad I would love to see him end up in Lincoln.

I am sticking with my prediction that Hunter Sallis enters the portal. With the Zags now out we should learn his status soon.

Got to watch him some in the tournament. Man he looks and plays in a way that reminds me of his mom. His mom for those that don't know is Jessica Haynes (now LIvingston). She along with her cousin Maurtice Ivy led back to back state champs at Central in the mid 80's. Finished one season #2 in the country according to USA Today. She played college basketball at San Diego State.

Speaking of Omaha Central. One thing to watch going forward, their head coach is former Husker Bruce Chubick. Will be interesting to see if NU can land some of his players. Would be a nice inroad for the Huskers to recruit stronger in Omaha.

When I turned on Sharp and Handley this morning they were talking about a big time point guard that's in the portal. He's supposedly got a visit to Lincoln coming up. Missed who it was though.

Never been to Spain.
I have only been the one time because of a school trip. They have of Moorish architecture, Roman architecture, and of Spanish. Through in the mountains, Riviera, and all points in between. Every city and town we visited was incredible, and the people were the nicest I have ever met in my life. Very happy for the players to get to go experience it.

Really good article on the struggles of the Big 10 in the tournament. No surprise to me, in office pools I rarely take anyone from the conference past the Sweet 16:

I haven’t seen anything yet. A couple years ago if memory serves, Nebraska didn’t make his final 8. Creighton did. I think KU was the big name local school that did as well.

The only thing recruiting wise that helps is Matt Abdelmassih isn’t here anymore. When he was leading recruiting for NU he didn’t seem to be interested in or have good local connections.

They possibly have openings for both. Griesel played the point, and we don’t know yet if Keisei is returning.
