If you look at the bottom of the photo, it appears a second crane arrived this morning and is being set up.

How does the second crane (or the first for that matter) even get to the constuction site? The hull, the caterpillar tracks alone, they're so HUGE. The 11:00 picture, it's not there, then 11:30 bang! it's there.

Its all transported by tractor trailer. Have you never seen them going down the interstate. Some of those may be a wide-load but nothing that a trailer can't support when its all separate.

Both of the cranes on site are now vertical.

Is it just me or is the second crane a little bigger? It also looks like the counter weights are larger.

Someone I'm close to is involved in providing steel for the building portion of the structure and has the CAD drawing of the whole structure. Looks like the first 16 floors are garage & lobby, then the building on top. the size of the parking structure is what really took me by surprise.

With CPP being 16 floors just like MOO's parking garage, I can imagine it will appear massive at first.

16 floors of parking? Wow what a lost opportunity. This property has the best view of a 400 million dollar park and they chose to fill 1/3 of its floor space to store cars.

Obviously any skyscraper is going to have some parking---but if they really wanted their employees to use transit why make parking so abundant and convenient?

Thats fair. But what about everyone on the ground who isnt an employee and will have to look at 16 floors of parked cars?

The Mall was a huge investment and its successfully grabbed Mutual of Omaha. Kudos to that. But youd think a city planner would have thought of an ordinance that banned building parking garages in a 1 block radious around a 400 million dollar park.

It’s been no secret the first 15-16 stories of this 44 story tower was slated for parking..which is also free for the public to use on the weekends-Friday thru Sunday..

Also, I don’t believe we’re talking about open parking where these cars are in clear view, like the totality of the skyscraper, the parking component is to be enclosed in steel/glass from what I understand..I really don’t see this as too big of a gripe. Mutual is building it. They’ve made a $600 million dollar investment to our downtown core. That commitment is what’s most important. They could have built a HQ’s campus out west..Then we’d complaining about an opportunity lost for the core..

Thankfully, that didn’t happen…

Seems like a lot of activity happened this week on the job sight. Both cranes are across the street now. Hopefully the Big Ole Hole twitter account didn't die. Last update is from the 2nd.

I just noticed what looks like a camera on the south-most trailer. Looks like they put it up on Monday. Wonder if that's one of the webcams.

Mixed feelings and partial agreement here.

If North America / Omaha or the USA knew how to build properly functioning cities, 15/16 story parking complexes wouldn't be needed.

But we don't. So until we get good at transit and city planning, this is our best option. MoO is paying for it, it's private land. The city shouldn't have a method to stop it.

And finally: It's obscured. At a glance, most people won't realize it's parking. As close to a win as we can expect.

this is a general construction question, is there a difference in concrete requirements/specs. for a parking garage and a parking garage that will be the base for a skyscraper? Cure time requirements and thickness?

The other green piece of equipment behind the generator appears to be a tower crane hook block.
