Last Thursday, it was the terrible news that R2 was leaving and now we get Baylor returning this week!
Looking at next Thursday like...

With a quote like this from Baylor, makes it seem like they are trying to get the rest of the core back next year:
“Having conversations with the other guys, seeing where their heads are at,” Scheierman said. “Really trying to preserve the main core we had to ultimately run it back next year and have another great chance to do something special again.”

Everyone except for Nembhard

Baylor
Trey
Art
Kalk

Obviously we have added Issac Traudt to the mix, which should help. Now we just need a PG and if the rest return, that will make many Jays fans excited.

Yes, they have Steven Ashworth and Andrew Rohde on campus today for visits, they are both 2 of the highest ranked PG transfers this year. Ashworth played for Utah St and is a great shooter that is a grad student. Rohde was a Freshman this past year for St. Thomas from Minneapolis (they actually played Creighton at CHI earlier this season) He is 6'6", so would add some size to the PG position.

There is a possibility we could possibly get both, which would be amazing.

Creighton's search for new point guard in transfer portal is on after Ryan Nembhard's departure

Among the top names: Steven Ashworth.

The Utah State transfer played three seasons for the Aggies, averaging 16.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 33.2 minutes this past year. With the 6-foot-1 170-pounder leading the offense, the Aggies went 26-9 before a first-round loss to Missouri in the NCAA tournament. Per KenPom, USU finished the year 16th in adjusted offensive efficiency.

Transfer portal buzz on Jamison Battle, Andrew Rohde, Eli King
Pepperdine transfer Mike Mitchell, Jr. is reportedly a "high priority" for the Gophers.

And lastly, Wolfson said St. Thomas (Minnesota) freshman guard Andrew Rohde, who is also in the transfer portal, is "definitely" getting "some Creighton buzz."

I didn't know that former Lakers and current Bulls guard Alex Caruso has Omaha/Creighton ties. His dad played/coached at Creighton and it looks like his mom is from Omaha and went to Nebraska-Omaha.

Man, I hope this holds true..

Add in a good point, and this team, with its nucleus pretty much in tact, can make a Final 4 run next year..

Pumped Baylor is returning…

From Shatel’s article today made it sound like they are counting on Trey coming back:
“Shooting is very important to us, obviously and R2 (Nembhard) became a really good shooter for us. Also someone who can run the show, play with pace and sees the floor. Good assist to turnover ratio, good teammate.

“In the coming weeks you’ll know who our point guard is going to be. Trey Alexander is going to play there some too, He played there (2021-22) when R2 got hurt. We’re going to bring in someone but I’m also comfortable having Trey play there as well.”

Steven Ashworth is a Creighton Bluejay

Steven Ashworth is a Creighton Bluejay. He officially announced on Monday at 5:20 live on the Field of 68. The All-First Team Mountain West Conference guard, Ashworth averaged 16.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for the Utah State Aggies on 43 percent shooting from deep this past season at Utah St.

The 6-foot-1 sharpshooting point guard out of Alpine (Utah) was in Omaha over the weekend. “Creighton has been recruiting me very hard and early since I hit the portal,” Ashworth said. “They are one of the first schools to reach out and talk to me about their interest in me. They want me to come in and become their starting point guard.”

I’m super glad that when Mac and crew have their eye on a guy they usually make it happen.

And the best part is, unlike so many other teams they do their best to recruit guys who fit the program, school and city of Omaha. No doubt, Ashworth is a good fit.

I didn't know that, is it b/c of the covid year? So basically he could stay for 2 years if he wants? If that is the case, that will be great to get acclimated to the program.

Creighton lands transfer sharpshooter out of Utah State

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Point guard Steven Ashworth committed to Creighton today, choosing the Bluejays over BYU, Oklahoma State, and returning to Utah State. Ashworth is coming off a career year with the Aggies, leading Utah State with 16.2 average points per game, being named First Team All-Mountain West Conference, and helping Utah State to an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. This past season, Ashworth also shot 43.4% from beyond the arc, ranking him sixth nationally.

The Utah native will likely replace point guard Ryan Nembhard who entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Ashworth becomes Creighton’s second transfer commit this offseason, along with Grand Island native Isaac Traudt out of Virginia. Joining Traudt and Ashowrth as newcomers for the 2023-2024 season is guard Josiah Dotzler out of Bellevue West.

From Shatel's article today about NIL and Creighton:
“Creighton is highly respected in the industry for the amount of NIL support that it’s providing. Most Big East athletic directors are desiring to have the level of support that Creighton has. They’re on top of the Big East.”

NIL plays a role in athletes staying, too.

Baylor Scheierman told me last week that Creighton’s NIL and “being able to get paid in college played a factor for sure” in his coming back.

Don’t know what Arthur Kaluma, Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner are going to do, but they have massive leverage to get more NIL money and return to CU. If the alternative is the NBA G League, you can make more at Creighton.
Amazing that Creighton is leading the Big East with NIL money....I knew it was good, but that is crazy with some of the other big schools and the tradition that they have that little CU is leading the way!!!

Watercooler talk at work, the Creighton starting 5 were all somewhere between $100k and $300k per year.

Andrew Rohde has committed to Virginia....(I think I would rather have Traudt back from VA then Rohde here) It would have been nice to have a 6'6" guard though.

Duke, Michigan State, Creighton make moves in men's Way-Too-Early Top 25
5. Creighton Bluejays
Previous: 10

It's been a mixed bag for the Bluejays so far this offseason. They watched as starting point guard Ryan Nembhard hit the portal, then went out and landed a top-10 transfer in elite shooter Steven Ashworth from Utah State. Returning starter Baylor Scheierman also announced his intentions to return to Omaha for another year. Now, they wait on Ryan Kalkbrenner's NBA decision.

Projected starting lineup:

Steven Ashworth (16.2 PPG at Utah State)
Baylor Scheierman (12.8 PPG)
Trey Alexander (13.6 PPG)
Arthur Kaluma (11.8 PPG)
Fredrick King (3.4 PPG)
