People previously posted big stacks of brick and it looks like real brick. Also, regarding that twitter poster, why would you complain about a surface lot getting filled in?! I love Twitter but also feel like it was mistake 75% of the time I read comments.Louie wrote: Sun Jan 22, 2023 12:45 am The comment on the twitter post calls out a brick veneer, I thought it was mentioned earlier that it’s actual brick?

Having spent time in other cities forums pages similar to this, a building like this would be welcome anywhere. It’s a great project for this spot!

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
Really nice to see a new building that doesn't incorporate fourteen shades of beige and black aluminum that a shed maker had left over that they sold to the developer for cheap (looking at you, Brickline and Cosgrove). It's not exactly "pretty," but it isn't ugly. And at least it has a style. It even has architecturally appropriate windows!
This actually looks like a proper old warehouse, and it fits into the OM well.

Are the bricks slightly whitewashed? Or am I seeing things?

Yes I’m so happy it will be fully bricked on the street sides. It blends well with the older OM District structures.

I would think this place will do well. Smack dab in the middle of the Old Market. Great location. If I was from out of town looking to stay in Omaha I would definitely take a look it this place.

I would think the government would be trying to get the Occupancy Certificate completed so CWS could happen, but it must be construction delays due to supply chain issues? That would be a large potential revenue loss.Athomsfere wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:22 pmDang really? Thanks for the photo update
Not sure I like the plain brick on the sides of the front of the building. Looks they may be installing signage on the north of the front of the building.

The brick that they have appeared to wash looks a lot darker and fits in much better with surrounding buildings.

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
it really does look like it's been there forever. Only thing that would have been cooler is if they did the arched windows along the top floor like the building next to it...but still looks pretty good, I hope it does well.

Here’s a before and after pic from the facade washing. Also, the planters are getting ready for landscaping.

Also nice to the see the sidewalks and the new planter areas. I really wish they would redo a ton of the sidewalks in the old market, they badly need it.

I'd also love, as I've said before to get the streets re-paved with new pavers / bricks. And then keep out at the very least any private vehicles bigger than an Accord to keep the area nice. Ideally foot traffic, bikes, and deliveries only.skinzfan23 wrote: Thu Jun 01, 2023 2:11 pm Also nice to the see the sidewalks and the new planter areas. This has been one of the slowest projects I can recall, it did have a Pandemic to deal with, I'm sure that complicated things. Hopefully once it finally opens it will be successful and worth the wait.

Re: Moxy Hotel to replace OM Diner
Those planters are the current city standard for any new project. Except when infrastructure conflicts, they are required and the developer pays for them. I'm guessing you don't see them more because the city doesn't want to pay for them on existing buildings. I did notice them did not use them at the Steel House. They must have got a waiver to do something different.nativeomahan wrote: Wed Jun 14, 2023 5:42 pmTotally totally totally totally agree!skinzfan23 wrote: Thu Jun 01, 2023 2:11 pm Also nice to the see the sidewalks and the new planter areas. I do like it but it still seems a little off with the big brick parts with no windows. Obviously on the corner, they are going to put the hotel sign in, but I feel it would be nice to have the windows all throughout.

Remember when people were angry/upset that the diner was closing and they were going to replace it with a hotel?

I was not one of them. When the diner closed, I was actually amazed it was even open. It always seemed dead to me.TransitOriented wrote: Fri Jun 30, 2023 2:33 pm Remember when people were angry/upset that the diner was closing and they were going to replace it with a hotel?
And that was certainly a wasted lot to my eye.
