The best fast food fish sandwich I’ve had so far this year is Runza by far. Bronco’s is a good second option. Arby’s is okay.. In the past, Chick Fil A had a great fish sandwich..but I’m not sure it’s offered any more. Culver’s has fallen way off for me..

I was never a fish sandwich eater, but I do like a good tuna melt. Though, tuna melts aren’t really a fast food item.

There’s always LJS for your fried food needs. The one on Saddle Creek recently reopened following a complete remodeling. They possibly even cleaned their fryers.

I forget Long John Silver’s even still exists, LOL..

That I have to google locations which still remain open in Omaha is an indicator of how long it’s been since I’ve eaten there…

It's probably the same ones. They don't build a lot of new LJS locations. They just keep the ones that have been around for 30+ years on life support.

That said, I do dig their Chicken Planks. I'm not sure I've ever eaten their fish (maybe once or twice as a kid). However, I do like their chicken. They make a tasty batter. I definitely don't care for the sides.

The Long John Silver's on 84th in La Vista is very well run. If I crave LJS I go to that one at lunch (it's not too far from my office in Twin Creek).

It is a combo location with A and W. I think that might be the only A and W left in the area?

Unless you count the one at Eppley, I think the next closest A&W is Fremont.

Eating at LJS is a bit like a one night stand. You really hope you will enjoy it but too often it just turns out to be a letdown, and you leave the building a bit ashamed that you even went in.

What I really loved about LJS was when they didn't separate shrimp before they dipped them in the batter, so most of two shrimps were uncooked.

Remember when most McDonald's locations flew 3 flags outside their stores? The US flag, the state flag (in this case, Nebraska) and the McDonald's flag? I captured a couple of shots of a couple of locations and added flags onto them. I did not use Photoshop to make these. What do you think?

First, the good news. From what I’m hearing, there is an Arby’s where you can get potato cakes!

Now the bad news. It’s at the Pilot truck stop in Council Bluffs, and it’s a part of their breakfast menu.

I have not verified this myself, so if anyone else wants to, knock yourself out!

I remember once fueling up at the Kwik Shop across the street from the now closed LJS on 48th and L St about a decade ago. The smell of that place running at maximum output during Lent mixed with the stagnant aroma of the meat packing plants down the road was.....interesting.

I Ordered a double cheeseburger- greasy smashed together but edible at least. The large order of french fries were a soggy, greasy over salted mess, which I couldn’t finish a quarter of..

I choked down the cheeseburger..and was reminded why I hardly ever go to places like this- unless I’m absolutely desperate for food and in the middle of nowhere with limited options..

Yes... And actually I tried it the other day and I was pretty underwhelmed. I was hoping for more because I love Big Macs. Not that I always do, but I've been known to eat two Big Macs in a sitting with bliss. But the Bronco's version, I really had to work to find satisfaction out of it. I ate it, but did not enjoy it. Disappointingly so, because I love Bronco's.

What it was - no onions, the sauce was runny and not very flavorful, and the beef was really only seasoned with salt so it seemed, and it was still pretty bland. I was intrigued by the addition of tomato, but still really did not do it for me. I might give it one more shot at the Leavenworth location, but I'd struggle to give the one I had a 4/10. the beef was better quality than McDonald's, but still very lacking in flavor.

And on top of it, McDonalds is supposedly stepping up their beef and or seasoning game.
