Wow that is a bit surprising....thought he was going to Arizona. Still don't know why he would leave Creighton for Gonzaga. Definitely more exposure for the Big East.

Creighton's newest signee. Out of nowhere, but he is listed at 6'6" for a guard.

Here is a quick writeup for him:
"Sterling Knox 6’6” WF 2023 Durango (Las Vegas NV)
Wing shooter who can knock down jumpers from the three point arc off catch and shoot or put it on the floor and pull-up from 15-17 feet off the move! He did show he has the bounce to finish with the flush at the rim too. He needs to add strength to finish versus contact and continue to reach his full potential that he showed scoring 22 points in the Best of Best game. Mid-up programs should take a look at him this spring and summer."

His brother went there, perhaps family ties.

I am sure there are ties there, but just weird that he wouldn't finish another year or two at CU. Gonzaga has consistently been ranked higher than CU and had more meaningful games in March but CU is on the rise and the competition in the Big East is much, much better.

Knox averaged 18 PPG, 7 APG, and 6 RPG as senior and they had a Top 10 max prep ranking this past year.

Hopefully a diamond in the rough find. The guy can play, but needs his shot re-worked some.

Another commitment, from the same academy as Sterling Knox, but this time a walk-on:

Sterling Knox commits to Creighton

The Jays picked up a commitment on Friday morning from the class of 2023 Sterling Knox. Knox who came on the radar of Coach McDermott recently was on campus for his official visit on Thursday/Friday. He is a 6’6 180-pound shooting guard who spent last season at Red Rock Academy where he averaged 18 PPG, 7 APG, and 6 RPG. Sterling credited many coaches along his journey including Sean Stevens, Derek Thomas, Tim Davis, Michael Lee, Sed Everett, and Rashard Mcgill. In describing his game he said “I am a versatile combo guard and I am also a 3-level scorer. Great rebounder and facilitator. Can do it all” For Knox, the decision to sign with Creighton was an easy one, “ What sold me was the coaching staff and the players. Creighton’s playing style fits me very well as well. Creighton just felt like home and a place I need to be”.

Well, Art Kaluma just declared he was entering the NBA Draft. The kid is not ready for the NBA imo..

But not a surprising development…

Apparently he is focusing on the draft but not giving up his eligibility…he could return but doesn’t sound likely.

It’d be nice if Trey and Kalk return. There is more hope those 2 stay than Art…

Creighton’s Arthur Kaluma enters NBA Draft

After two years in the program Arthur Kaluma announced on Instagram he is entering the NBA Draft without saying anything about remaining college eligibility. This past season Art scored close to 12 points per game and compared to his freshman season he improved by playing more minutes, he also had more points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. Players can test the NBA waters while keeping their NCAA eligibility, it is unclear if that is an option for Art. That is what Trey Alexander is doing this offseason as he considers professional basketball.

No announcement from Kalkbrenner either way....as someone else mentioned "thats a Kalkbrenner thing".

Seems to be coming back with no big announcement and just getting back to business.

Apparently the official release showing who entered their names in the draft won't be out until tomorrow or Wednesday. So if Kalk's name still isn't on that official list, he will be coming back to CU.

It’s to the point now, other than Baylor, who knows who, if any, of the remaining starting 5 will return to the Jays..Sad..Because if at least Kalk and Trey come back, this could be another Elite 8 team..

Art, imo, is as good as gone. Pity. Because I believe he’ll flounder in the NBA at this point. The guy is a nice defender and is athletic. But his ball skills make him a turnover machine. He could use another year of refinement by staying at the Hilltop…

Copied this from the Bluejay forum but I thought that was awesome how shocked he was that they were all Creighton fans: starts around 29:10

Interview from Let It Fly podcast. Nice tidbit on impression Creighton fans had on Steven. His team also played in Vegas after our game against BYU. He saw a crowd of blue and thought it was a nice BYU contingent only to realize in the 2nd half they were all Creighton fans!

Obviously some of the Creighton fans have the financial means to travel, but it always amazes me how well the Creighton fanbase travels. Usually when the other Big East schools come to Omaha, they have next to no fans., while CU has a contingent even on the visits to the east coast. Not to mention how well they travel to Las Vegas or tournaments in KC like this upcoming year.

almighty_tuna wrote: Mon Apr 03, 2023 10:14 am IMO the lynchpin in all of this is Kalk. The bread and butter this season was getting him the ball down low (which opened up the 3 game for Baylor, Trey, Farabello, etc) and of course his ridiculous defense. If he goes pro, everything changes and the strategy starts from the ground up.

They have until the end of May to withdraw their names from NBA consideration and retain their college eligibility, so I guess Creighton sits and waits not knowing if any of the three will be back. Looks like there are 242 Early Entry candidates.

Yeah.. Hoping they all come back..

But, imo-

One for sure is gone (Art Kaluma), Trey and Kalk are “maybe’s”. We’d be fortunate if 2 of the 3 return..but what’s most likely is one or none come back..

We’ll see in a bit over a month…

Men’s Basketball Names Derek Kellogg Assistant Coach
Kellogg has coached at the Division I level since 1997 and boasts 14 years of head coaching experience.

Derek Kellogg has been named an assistant coach for the Creighton Men's Basketball program, head coach Greg McDermott announced on Thursday. Kellogg has coached at the Division I level since 1997 and boasts 14 years of head coaching experience.

Kellogg spent last season at his alma mater, Massachusetts, where was an assistant coach on Frank Martin's staff that won 15 games and earned the Myrtle Beach Invitational title.

Creighton finished the 2022-23 season with a 24-13 record after reaching the Elite Eight and is already being projected as a top-10 team in early preseason polls for the 2023-24 campaign. Kellogg replaces Alan Huss on the Bluejay staff, as Huss was hired as head coach at High Point University on March 27th.

Hearing good things about the visit yesterday from transfer Johnathan Lawson from Memphis. He was a 4* recruit who was Mr. Basketball in TN for 2020. Only played limited min last year for Penny @ Memphis, but he is 6'6" with a 7'1" wingspan.

Hopefully we get an announcement soon saying that he has signed.

Now we are full for scholarships: (another commitment from our TN connections Mason Miller, Zander Yates, Jonathan Lawson and now Brock Vice)

3* star recruit, 6"10" 225 lbs should be able to get some experience, but probably redshirting.

Great article about the culture they are wanting to develop at Creighton. Basically states that they want to create a culture where no one would want to transfer out due to the support (both coaches and fans) that the school provides. Obviously there are always going to be people that want a different role or maybe different fit, but love what they are trying to build.

According to John Fanta, even if Kaluma returns to college, he'll be entering the transfer portal and leaving Creighton. So, there's that.

I just saw that as well...kinda thought that might happen. I really loved Kaluma especially his athleticism but his pump fake to nowhere drove me nuts. Also only a 29% 3pt shooter (which you would love to see around 35% at least)

Hopefully Traudt is ready to go at the position. He is 3 in taller at 6'10", obviously not as athletic as Art, but hopefully a good rebounder and he can hit shots.
