The Grow Omaha post about this said something along the lines of the water damage / mold from the water made the buildings unsaveable...

That's to bad, I drove by it when it was burning. The high winds that day probably made fighting it difficult and they had to continue pouring massive amounts of water on it because it kept restarting. It was a stubborn fire. Still unclear how it started.

Drove by the Applied Underwriters building today. Haven’t been out that way for awhile and it really seems to be coming together. Looking sharp.

City council will review and approve a bridge maintainance agreement for the pedestrian bridge that will connect West and South Farm at Heartwood Preserve over Pacific Street.

There appears to be a one level steel framed building going up. I thought this was all going to be multi-level buildings. Come on Heartwood, don't let us down (even more).

I don't think MegaSavers have advanced into 2-story quickie marts yet... but could be coming soon will all the cell phones and CBD products.

That's for the lot Lockwood folks purchased and are developing into a nice strip mall type development.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but there is no reason those need to be in standalone buildings.

My expectations are so low on this project. Driving on Pacific seeing all the wasted land at 132nd and 147th just pains me. At least they are actively planting trees.

I live in Harvey Oaks. I wouldn't have minded if they had turned half into a forest/park. 100 acres for the public, it would be like Elmwood Park for west Omaha. It could of been a nice natural and public amenity for that area of Millard. I know they are developing public trails and a little park and pond area, but with what we are getting, a large public park would of been nice. That's neither here nor there as that was not going to happen, just a thought as we are watching this develop.

I live in Piedmont and wish they had more of an original idea. For example, those houses that were off 144th and dodge could have been converted into themed restaurants or bars making for a nice little walkaround area. Then do as you say and make a nice large park/forested area. I also seriously doubt their master plan pans out to what they envision.

It depends which master plan you're referring to. There have been a few over the past 7 years of this project

No chance, IMO. We should have had doubts when one of the anchor tenants was a car dealership.

Yeah, another 1 level building. Although, to be fair, the building I initially posted about a week or so ago has a small section that is on a second floor. Disappointing.

It's the same as Cuming Street between the CHI Center and Creighton, the CHI parking lot original plans and Dodge from 168th to the Platte. Sky high renderings, not much in the end.

From this week's Grow Omaha Market Report:

Construction is going vertical on the future Mahogany Prime Steakhouse and Charleston’s Restaurant buildings southwest of 144th & West Dodge Road in Heartwood Preserve. The restaurants, both owned by Hal Smith Restaurants of Oklahoma City, are relocating from their current buildings near 137th & West Dodge Road. Structural steel is up for the Mahogany building which is toward the south. The Charleston’s building to the north has the foundation finished and will go vertical soon.

IIRC their current location wanted to renovate so the restaurants punted and moved to their own new space instead of closing for a period and paying subsequently higher rents post-reno.

No, there are two giant construction signs that says "Charleston's" and the other "Mahogany". So big you can read them from 114th street. They are black spray paint on plywood.

The one behind Charleston's? Its like half 2 stories and half 1 story, but it looks all the same from the outside? Still trying to figure that out myself.
