What’s burger… In and Out… something new!

BK really let their stores fall to |expletive| didn’t they? They’ve been a player in the game my entire life. Imo seeing them fall apart would be like watching McDonald’s fail.

In all seriousness I wonder where the finger gets pointed as far as the primary reason for their demise? A new ceo that was awful? Just a ton of terrible franchisees?

Just doesn’t make that much sense to me.

Another similar comparison would be seeing Pepsi go out of business and only Coke sticking around.

I'm a little surprised that Burger King didn't have some kind of promotion about the coronation this weekend, since "King" is right there in their name.

If any Burger Kings in Nebraska do close (I sincerely hope not), then maybe some of them can be converted into Jack In The Boxes? That's a restaurant we don't have here.

Are there any Burger King buildings worth saving? I would assume they would get leveled and start over. Most Burger King buildings around here are dumps.

Yeah BK does not keep their sites up to any sort of standard like McDonald's does.

I think it'd be okay if a few, or several BK locations were to close in Omaha. I like BK, and I've actually had it several more times this year than McDonalds, but I do recognize they've got something going on, just can't quite put my finger on it. They don't have a very stable menu. They are always trying gimmicky stuff, and getting rid of good items. Plus many locations around the metro have terrible service.

It would probably be easier to identify which locations should stay than which ones should go.

Yeah BK is a weird place, the restaurants are almost all in need of a refresh, and they would probably do better with a smaller number of menu items as well.

Although I rarely ever go to McDonald's (their food is really salty and messy not to mention pretty expensive for what it is) A McChicken used to be $1 now I believe they are $2.39.

BK has better deals and tastes better in my opinion, but the workers at BK always seem to be in daze.

Speaking of workers being in a daze, I went to my neighborhood Jimmy John’s the other night, went up to the counter, selected my sandwich choice from the menu board, then ordered a “large” #8. The young clerk asked me “what size?”
“Large” I repeated.
The clerk again asked “but what size?”
“Large” I re-repeated, somewhat annoyed.
A second clerk stepped in and said to me “we weren’t sure you really wanted the 16” or just the 8”?”
At that point I wasn’t sure I wanted anything.

I think they need to follow suit from McDonalds and establish a stable menu. Focus on their strong suits. They won the Whopper war and lost the Big Mac battle. Get rid of the Big King. The fact they have the vegetarian Impossible Whopper is a pitch too. They should get rid of some redundancies such as do they want chicken fries or chicken nuggets? The BK Stacker is a winner.

They just seem to shoot wild and not know which target to aim for.

I used to go to the Burger King on 48th and Holdrege in Lincoln frequently. I very rarely, almost never, had a problem there. I was always treated with respect and courtesy.

That said, just before that time, I went to Don & Millies and had their Double Don burger. It never fails to satisfy…

I love Don & Millie’s up until they dropped the ham and cheese frenchee. The cheese only version is a bit boring and overpriced imo.

At one time they would remove the ham and cheese option during lent. I’m married to a catholic so I understand the idea - however I never really got the benefit of taking ham away so they can stuff tuna inside a frenchee. Anyway, they lost me when they never brought it back.

The Frenchee is just a fried grilled cheese sandwich anyway- throw in some ham and you can make that at home

To me, the real stars of the show at Don & Millie’s are their burgers and beef taco salad. Their French Fries are “meh”.. But D & M’s blows away places like Burger King and McDonald’s- as both have morphed into slop houses today. In the 1970’s and 80’s they were actually pretty good establishments to get your fast food fix.. It’s sad to see what they’ve become over the past 30 years…

I don't think I've been to Don & Millie's since my drinking days when I used to go like every weekend night. Sad face. I should make a point to go some time soon.

I love the cheese frenchee, and it does sound much better with ham. I've made them at home before, but honestly a bit of a mess to make. Their burgers are good. I don't know what exactly it is, but they have that made at home taste to them. Like we at home could never replicate a BK or Mcdonald's patty, but A Don & Millie', and Bronco burger would be easy. Just beef. Their fries are weird. Like, they're not good, and they seem like the cheapest most generic fry they can probably get from the same food service that supplies elementary schools... But, that said, after a few margaritas, they aren't too bad

Because Burger King is terrible; a hardly edible fast food option anymore..

There was a time, in the 70’s, 80’s even into the 1990’s the place was decent.. Anymore, the place is just bad..and the ones ran in the Omaha area and Lincoln are a complete disaster..

So many other better fast food options out there and at the same price point…

I think pretty much everyone will agree that fast food is absolutely unhealthy; and if consumed too frequently, can make you sick and contribute to taking years off your life..

That said, I also don’t know many folks who don’t eat fast food- either frequently or on occasion. I’m sure Burger King has their “fans” (I personally don’t know anyone who goes there to eat because the food is good. Most folks I know who have eaten there recently, have done so out of convenience). But if someone actually likes Burger King- that’s their choice- you do you..

For me however, when I choose to poison my body by eating fast food, at least I expect the food to be edible. Burger King and McDonald’s, for me, is completely inedible and very VERY low quality. So when I choose to eat unhealthy fast food, I’ll take Runza, Don & Millie’s, Bronco’s or Culver’s..He!l, I’d even choose Arby’s over BK or McDonald’s lol..

Burger King jumped the shark about 25 years ago. And I’m being polite..and it’s nothing personal…

I will admit that I absolutely crave a Whopper with Cheese about once a month. To me it's a great sandwich. I wish BK was doing better with their franchises. They are so hit and miss. With them starting to close locations, maybe that's started. It's amazing how uneven BK can be. Even just general maintenance, they don't seem to have standards and requirements. It's incredibly rare to go to a McDonalds that is not well kept.

The whomper is really good...but that's about it. BK's fries are weird, and their other sandwiches are lacking (i don't recall ever getting a chicken sandwich that wasn't over cooked). Side note: one time I ordered a big mac + tomato...it was pretty good- like a whopper with some extra zing

But in my opinion, the best chain fast food burgers are the mushroom swiss at Runza and the frisco burger at Hardee's. Best fries/ranch are runza, hands down, and it's not even close. Then curly fries from Arby's.

From what I hear, though, is that the best burger in Omaha is at Dinker's and i really need to get there to try one

I enjoy BK. I think the beef tastes good with that flame grilled flavor. When they brought back the Stacker, I was getting that once a week for like eight weeks, then they got rid of it again... Probably for my good lol. I also enjoy the Whopper, as well as the Impossible Whopper from time to time. In a weird way, their fries although usually terrible, can be pretty good when they're done to their best ability. Just, that happens 1% of the time.

I think they could improve some things, such as using leaf lettuce instead of the chopped iceberg lettuce, especially when all their ads show leaf lettuce. Heck, It could still be iceberg lettuce, I just want a whole leaf. I think the way the chopped lettuce mixes with the ketchup and mayo on the Whopper leads to an off-putting texture. Also I wish they'd find a way to get riper tomatoes.

Over the years, BK has come up with a lot of items that I loved, none of which are currently on the menu today. I'll just list them as they come to mind, the A1 steak burger, angry Whopper, cinni minis, funnel cake sticks, Tendercrisp chicken sandwich, Stacker.

I like how they still try new and weird gimmicky stuff. I've tried pretty much every rendition of the Whopper that they've come up with, and I'll continue to do so as long as they keep at it. I noticed they haven't come up with anything in a while. Bringing back the Stacker was the last thing, and before that I believe was the Ghost Pepper Whopper last Halloween, which was pretty darn good.

I forgot about that. But since you mention it, yeah, it was just a Whopper with a red bun. Really lame. So I barely feel I can call that a true attempt.

On that subject, maybe something they could have added to it to make it unique might have been some sort of berry bacon jam? I would have tried that.

I had to correct myself, for last Halloween, they came out with the Ghost Pepper Whopper, which was very good. I never tried the Halloween Whopper from a couple years ago with the black bun.

The next time I’ll get a fast food burger, I’m going to 5 Guys. I actually forgot they were still open in the Omaha area but I remember their burgers were actually pretty good.. Also Freddie’s. I need to get back there at some point. Both of those places I’d rate as FAR better than Burger King as well..

For fries, well, one cannot beat the crinkle cut fries at Runza or the fries at broncos.. Arby’s needs to wise up and bring back their potato cakes…

I like their Bacon King. Yeah, it's messy, but yummy. Not to mention quite filling.
