I've been noticing the work day got longer. There was activity all the way up until 8 pm tonight. Wonder how long it'll be before the finish the pylons.

Can anyone tell what kind of carpentry work they are doing this week?

Looks like they are making some kind of frames or something.

Those frames are used for door/openings in the poured concrete walls.

I figure they must be building a retaining wall, so they can dig out the old one?

I'm not an expert but i suspect they need to go down further and want to keep it from collapsing while they do so. i don't think they are tearing out the existing retaining wall?

This is kind of interesting. They have some new renderings of the interior.

I watched the report- most of the information we pretty much already knew about.. One thing that was curious, the KETV story was reporting the price tag for the skyscraper at $443 million (which was the original cost estimate when “Project Beacon” was announced), we also know however, that fairly recently, it was reported the price tag as $600 million..

In any case, the 2 things I liked about the report, was that mutual officials stated by the end of this year, we should see the tower take shape; and that the skyscraper construction should be completed by 2025, with Mutual employees moving in- in 2026…

Interesting for sure.

Price of materials back down perhaps? Because even with a 15% buffer it appears under budget (so far)

i dunno about that. i'd say maybe more of bad information, or mutual is under-reporting what the cost is at the moment because of all the hubbub related to the street car project and their declaration of that being a key driver for them moving downtown. A lot of people i've spoken with at work or at home seem to think that the city is funding the tower and the street car together (which of course isn't true), and that their taxes are going to shoot up. I don't know, i could be all wet on this one, but i don't think it'd be a horrible stretch

All wet?

Any way, yes taxes aren't impacted at all, and it's one of many just frustrating things on these projects. The more ignorant the person on these projects, and really any Omaha projects, the more vehemently they appose them. *glares in the direction of Linehan*

Also, I don't believe a corp can legally misrepresent a cost like that. Saying you just cut costs by $150 million dollars, when you know that not be true (even to the press) could constitute fraud...

'all wet' or 'completely wrong' :)

and to your point on the fraud part: i can see that, but maybe they are reworking numbers/not counting the buffer $ in case things run over budget? I dunno, honestly. I just can't see the cost of materials declining by $100M, that's all. Maybe they changed something with the finishes on the interior or something to help reduce costs?

On a side note, one thing I think would be great would be some sort of public observation deck that you could go up into that you could not only see the landscape, but incorporate the history of mutual and their partnership with conservation awareness (Wild Kingdom) and tie that in with the river. Little placards adjacent to points of interest, e.g. view of Lewis & Clark monument in the bluffs, rail road bridge near the old power plant, etc. Charge a few bucks for people to go up in there, have a small "omaha" gift shop. easy money

It was made public to media outlets and also the city council and mayor’s office- the cost of the skyscraper had increased to an estimated $600 million from the original $443 million number. This was indicated around 5 months or so ago. And of course, Mutual is paying this- and at ZERO cost of the taxpayers..any citizen thinking otherwise has been either badly informed or are intentionally ignorant..

I honestly think the KETV report lacked accurate attention to detail when that $$ amount was indicated- and there was no research done regarding the adjustment of the tower cost prior to the release of this story- that is clearly apparent imo, lol…

That makes sense! They were using an older cost. I forgot that there had been the increase too.

Just like a of the media lately, they are lazy and probably pulling up old documents that have since changed. Its mind boggling how inaccurate stories are and also to see all the spelling errors as well.

A relative that worked on the unsuccessful Kiewit bid thinks the $600M estimate is accurate. But thinks the 2025 timeline is unrealistic. Also stated that a public observation deck was planned when they were looking at it.... but I'm the guy that thought I could get you a picture of the building model a few weeks ago, and didn't. So take all that with as much salt as you need. I'm probably all wet too.

It’s like an epidemic of incompetence..

All they have to do is visit this forum and thread, specifically, and they’ll get all the latest info they need..

With up to date accuracy :)

Hard to tell but that still doesn't look to be a tower crane based on the counter weights they have.

If you look at the bottom of this picture, looks like another crawler. Still, surprised they need 3.

They are installing drilled shafts which are part of the foundation system.

They seem to post the pics manually. They had another point where they didn't post for days. Whoever is running it might be on vacation.

I don't want to sound negative, but if the point of the cameras was to track construction progress, they're probably already up and running but not set up to be viewed by the public. That's just my assumption. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Not rooftop access, he's clearly shooting through a window. You can see the glare in most of those videos.

Awesome find for sure. The park “snapshot” cameras are cool, but it’s more interesting to see the active work being done.
