I'm sure the consistency will be nice for the players, but taking out the human element doesn't seem right, its part of the game.jag42 wrote: Sat Jan 14, 2023 3:27 pm Balls and strikes will be called automatically at the Triple-A level in 2023:

I agree. Also wondering where the home plate umpire will now be positioned, someone would still need to call runners safe or out at home plate.

Former Manager Mike Jirschele Returns to Lead Storm Chasers
Royals announce full 2023 Storm Chasers Coaching Staff
PAPILLION, Neb. – The Kansas City Royals today announced the 2023 Omaha Storm Chasers coaching staff, headlined by the return of former Omaha Manager Mike Jirschele. Jirschele will be joined on the Storm Chasers coaching staff by pitching coach Dane Johnson, hitting coach Bijan Rademacher, assistant coach Chris Nelson, athletic trainer James Stone, and strength and conditioning coach Yannick Plante. Mike Brown returns as coordinator of clubhouse operations.
“It is going to be great to have Jirsch back in a Storm Chasers uniform,” said Omaha Vice President/General Manager Laurie Schlender. “He has been an important part of our franchise’s history and understands not only what it takes to win in Omaha but how important it is for us as an organization to give back to our community. Plus, we are excited to have Dane, James, Yannick, and Mike back in Omaha and welcome Bijan and Chris into the Chasers Family.”
Jirschele, who was promoted to the Kansas City staff following the 2013 season, returns to Omaha where he led the franchise from 1995-1997 and then again from 2003 through the 2013 season, culminating in a Triple-A championship. 2023 will be Jirschele’s 32nd season with the Royals and he holds an all-time franchise managerial record of 995-1,018, making Jirschele Omaha’s all-time winningest manager. Jirschele returns to the helm in Omaha after most recently serving as a bench coach during the 2022 season with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals AA Affiliate).
Johnson returns for his third season as Omaha’s pitching coach after guiding the Storm Chasers’ staff in 2022. Now entering his 24th season as a coach, he joined the Royals organization in 2020 after spending 2019 with the Miami Marlins organization and the previous 19 years with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he served as a minor league pitching coach (2000-2003), pitching coordinator (2004-2014), and Major League bullpen coach (2015-2018).
Rademacher begins his first season with Omaha and will serve as the hitting coach on Mike Jirschele’s staff. Rademacher joins the Royals after spending the last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, most recently as their Hitting Coach in the Arizona Complex League. The Anaheim Hills, CA native was a 13th round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs during the 2012 MLB draft, playing within the Cubs farm system through the 2018 season and being ranked the Chicago Cubs #21 prospect in 2015.

Nick Pratto called up to KC today for Kyle Isbel who is on the paternity list. I hope Nick gets sent back when Kyle returns though. Really needs to show improvement on strike outs to make it long term in KC.

Re: 2023 Omaha Storm Chasers / KC Royals
Just wanted to pass along that the KC Royals have awesome ticket specials this season. Last weekend we took advantage of the Sunday family 4 pack:
4 upper level tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 pops, and a parking pass all for $50 (about $64 with all the fees added on, but that is still a great deal). I think it includes games against the Dodgers and Yankees later in the season.
Unfortunately (ahem) we didn't have the opportunity to get our pop and hot dog as we were picked before the game by a lady from the Royals to move down to first row behind home plate with all the food and drink we wanted, and meet Royals owner John Sherman, but that's another story altogether

Storm Chasers adjusting to new automated ball-strike calls
OMAHA (KMTV) — The Storm Chasers are officially using an Automated Ball-Strike system at Werner Park. It’s new to AAA baseball this year, and players and coaches say so far it’s adding a new element to the game. “I mean you can’t complain about balls and strikes anymore, which is not as fun either,” catcher Logan Porter said. “I like to argue sometimes.” “I think it’s been running really well,” bench coach David Nowortya said. “I think our players have really adapted to it. It’s one of these things where the game’s changing and we’re gonna have to adapt with it.” Porter said he isn’t always a fan of it behind the plate.

Ned Yost inducted into Royals Hall of Fame
A familiar face was back at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday. Former Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost was inducted into the Royals Hall of Fame before their matchup with the Boston Red Sox. Yost helped lead the franchise to back-to-back World Series, winning it all in 2015, their first championship since 1980. His induction brought the return of former Royals to the stadium, including Alex Gordon, Alcides Escobar, Wade Davis and Greg Holland. Their appearances were a delight to Yost. Yost retired at the end of the 2019 season. He has the most wins of any Royals manager with 746.
