That current development on the Nebraska Kansas border is Omaha's potential storms for the evening.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
Something to keep an eye on, that Pawnee City system that is currently tornado warned appears to want to go East. If that happened Omaha especially could get split with the stuff this afternoon going to the Northwest and this latest system going to the Southeast. It is entirely possible though that it starts following the Northwestern track again and or additional storms develop in Southeastern Nebraska as all of the conditions are there. We should probably have a better idea over the next hour or so (6 to 7 p.m.).

Made it to Watson, MO. Fri evening in time to watch two wall clouds pass by. Just not enough oomph. A ton of chasers were out.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
I was on that same storm as it developed north of Pawnee City, NE. Saw a brief tornado and a few times it looked like it was about to drop a big tornado near Auburn NE but it just kept getting undercut. Big low hanging meso/rotating wall cloud, nice RFD cut, warm inflow winds, etc.damonhynes wrote: Sat May 13, 2023 2:32 pm Made it to Watson, MO. Fri evening in time to watch two wall clouds pass by. Still fun either way.
This was one of the attempts it made to drop a bigger tornado (it’s a wide angle shot so it looks further away than it was because I wanted to get more of the structure):

Tornadoes leave destruction across eastern Nebraska
DODGE COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) - Friday night’s storms left damage in several parts of Nebraska, including Dodge County. About 40 miles from the Omaha metro, the National Weather Service is out in Dodge County and other areas surveying the damage.

Family farm in Dodge County hit by tornado, structures destroyed
A barn collapsed in on 1,000 cattle. Around 970 of them survived. The farm's other structures weren't so lucky.
DODGE COUNTY, Neb. —
In a preliminary report, the National Weather Service says there were as many as five confirmed tornadoes that swept across Dodge and Burt counties Saturday. And as many as 29 tornadoes were reported across the state. The weather service also says that tornado damage they've surveyed so far ranges from EF0 to EF2 levels.
Some of Friday's storm damage hit part of Dodge County near the town of Hooper. The Weitzenkamp family left their home to avoid the tornado, only to get a call saying they should probably come back. "And said hey, we think you need to get home," Jon Weitzenkamp, owner of the Thomas Cattle Company, said. "You got some buildings down and actually, some of our cattle were about a mile away from home being rounded up by friends and neighbors."

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
Our next chance of severe weather is possible Thursday night with the passage of a cold front through the area. Shouldn't be a big event but a few strong/severe storms will be possible anyway (mostly wind/hail).
Otherwise quiet again for the time being and it "might" stay quiet for a little while as a ridge starts to build into the middle of the country next week (it's too far out to have any confidence yet).

Sort of a dry Spring so far. My yard, which I am normally mowing twice per week this time of year, is actually starting to brown in a few sunny spots.

One good thing that came from the storms the other day is at least a some of that area west of Omaha in the "exceptional drought" received some significant rainfall so I'd assume the map will change at least to an extent in that area with the next update...

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
Still looking like a chance for scattered thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon/evening as a cold front pushes through. However, no widespread strong/severe storms are expected.
Things are continuing to look quiet on the long range as well as we transition into more of a summer time weather pattern (even some 90s showing up toward the end of next week - though obviously that's too far out to have any confidence). With the heat/humidity, I'm sure there will be occasionally "pop up" storms (especially in the late afternoon/early evening) but other than that, pretty quiet.

Thanks, this is usually a pretty nice time of the year, May is a nice month in Omaha, we could probably use a little rain soon.stormchaser wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 12:15 pm Still looking like a chance for scattered thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon/evening as a cold front pushes through. I hear you. Unfortunately with the amount of dry air in place currently, IF we get anything (which is a big if), it probably will barely add up to even a measurable amount...Omaha Cowboy wrote: Wed May 17, 2023 10:29 pm Glad to hear at least for the time being, all is quiet on the severe weather front..

Fingers crossed Omaha is lucky enough to get a thunderstorm at least in which case we'd get at least "something" (it will depend on timing that the cold front pushes through this evening - odds are higher south and east of town though).

Looks like some storms are developing just south of Omaha in the Springfield/Louisville area. Unfortunately these will likely stay south of town.
