Evans drives in three as Nebraska baseball clinches series with Penn State

Nebraska baseball put together another complete team performance on Saturday night. Bunts, limited strikeouts and a quality start from Jace Kaminska highlighted the Huskers’ 5-2 win over Penn State. With the win, Nebraska moves to 28-20-1 on the season and 12-8 in Big Ten play. That’s good enough for a three-way tie for fourth in the conference with four games remaining on the schedule. Here’s more on the performance from head coach Will Bolt’s squad.

The Huskers wrap up their final home series with a Mother’s Day matinee on Sunday morning. Nebraska will honor ten seniors prior to the game’s 11:02 a.m. start. The finale will be broadcasted on ESPN2. Then on Thursday, the Huskers close out the regular season at Purdue for a three-game set. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m. in West Lafayette followed by another 5:00 p.m. start on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Efry Cervantes got hurt reaching first in the 7th. Had to be helped off the field. Didn’t look good, as he didn’t seem to be putting weight on his left leg. Haven’t heard any updates yet.

Radio call said it looked like he tore a hamstring. Also haven’t heard anything.

Nebraska baseball sweeps Penn State to round out final home series

The Nebraska baseball team (29-20-1) took care of Penn State (24-22) on Sunday, beating the Nittany Lions 8-5. This win rounded out the Huskers final home series for the Big Red with a three-game sweep. The Big Red faced some adversity in this game as PSU brought the game within one run two different times. However, the offense responded well, scoring multiple runs after both of those occasions.

The Huskers have one final series next weekend as they head to Purdue. The three-game series starts on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Friday’s game starts at 5:00 p.m. as well, followed by the series finale at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. All three games will stream on B1G+ and are on the Huskers Radio Network.

Nebraska baseball travels to Purdue to wrap up the regular season

The Nebraska baseball team (29-20-1) has gotten hot at the right time, with one regular season series remaining. For that final series, the Big Red will head to West Lafayette, Indiana to take on Purdue (23-27). Coming into the game, NU have won four straight games, extending to last week’s midweek game against Creighton. A sweep over Penn State in the Huskers’ final home series last weekend has Nebraska rolling with some momentum into the final series of the year.

Nebraska baseball opens final regular season series with a win over Purdue

The Nebraska baseball team settled into the first game of their series against Purdue (23-28), then the offense exploded in the seventh and eighth innings to win 10-5. The Huskers blasted three home runs in the final three innings of this game to tie the team’s single season record. NU’s 1985 team hit 93 home runs, and the 2023 team has hit that same mark with two games remaining.

Nebraska baseball shatters two home run records in series finale at Purdue

Nebraska baseball broke a duo of home run records on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers set a new program record for home runs in a season and Max Anderson cleared a milestone of his own in a 6-4 victory over Purdue.

Head coach Will Bolt and company finished the regular season at 31-21-1 and 15-9 in the Big Ten. The Huskers are locked into a No. 4 seed as the conference tournament approaches next week.

Nebraska baseball hung on 9-7 in a wild opener against Rutgers to advance to the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskers will face Maryland on Thursday.

Huskers played Maryland much closer than I was expecting. Really disappointed in how MECA handled ticket sales last night. Crazy they were only selling outfield seats with plenty unsold down the sides. Hurt the overall attendance. Missed opportunity to get additional people downtown.

Great game in many ways other than the final score. I wonder if there would been a different outcome without the lightning delay. The Huskers seemed to have it in control before the break, unlike after. We will never know, though.

Will Walsh's complete game powers Nebraska past Michigan State

With its back against the wall in an elimination game and a hungry Michigan State squad on deck, Nebraska needed a hero. So, Will Walsh put on his cape. The sophomore tossed his first career complete-game shutout at a moment of dire need. Walsh allowed four hits, struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk in nine scoreless innings Friday night. Add in clutch hits from Ben Columbus along with Casey Burnham and the Huskers topped the Spartans 4-0. “I thought he had a chance to give us some length in this game and I was going to give him the opportunity to do that,” head coach Will Bolt said. “To think that he’s going to give you a complete game? Certainly you don’t expect that.”

What’s next for Nebraska baseball?
Nebraska meets Maryland for the second time in as many days on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers will need to best the Terrapins twice starting at 1:00 p.m. CT and again later in the evening.
