I am tired of these comments. This isn't the first park in world to have a skyscraper built near it, and I can hope it won't be the last for Omaha. Shadows are a part of every urban park in the world, it wont be an issue. The park stretches all the way to the river if the sun is so important people can venture out of the "shadows" easily.
I am not trying to speak for thenewguy, but I don't think he's being critical about it. I just think he's saying the shadow will be impressive particularly with no other building east of it. It's shadow is going to be huge and welcome during those hot summer afternoon and evenings.
thank you ita, you hit the nail on the head. I'm not being critical at all, just making an observation. It will be very cool looking with the sun behind it, and it will make it look all the more impressive when you see how far it goes on the great lawn at the mall

There are many very tall (50, 60, 70 story) buildings lining the south side of Central Park in NYC. In winter they cast a huge shadow across more than a quarter mile portion of the park.
Life goes on.

Agreed..

I know some on the toxic Reddit Omaha page were being critical several months back about how the Mutual Tower will block light and cast a “horrible” shadow across the GLM. Those were folks against the skyscraper construction in the first place.. Silliness lol…

Being directly west of the park, it will actually cast very little on the park. Just around the Spring and Fall Equinox.

Below is the Sunset for Memorial Day. The Orange Line running to the north west is where the sun will be relative to the tower on Monday. Its already so far north of west, that its shadow on memorial day won't even effect the park. The shadow will be on the landmark center.

So people were upset there was going to be shade in the park at the hottest time of day during the hottest times of the year?

That was like a year and a half ago at this point. The best part was that the calculator he used, he completly foobar'd the height of the building. Instead of 700' he put in 7,000' so the projections were waaay off, and just covered the entire GLM for like 10 minutes of the evening.

again, not being critical :) it was more a point of pride that we'd have something so tall that it might cast a cool shadow, and make for a cool picture with the light from the sun behind it. But to Brad's point, it isn't in the right position for that pretty much all the time, so I digress.

You may be right. I seem to remember it from shortly after the announcement, give or take a couple months. When every other post on Reddit seemed to be anti-street car and anti-new-MoO "fix the potholes instead" posts.

Looks like they are putting together another one. Although with mismatched parts lol.

The latest shows those parts attached now with another third one.

Maybe assembling the crane in the background that will put together the tower crane? Appears they are about to add a massive extension to it.

The last I heard on this, is that the tower should start going vertical (above ground) before the end of the year. I take that to mean at some point around Thanksgiving to mid December..But I will check with my sources and see if there is any additional info on that and post it here by tomorrow…

I’m pretty certain most people already know the State Capital building in Lincoln, would be the 4th tallest in Omaha…

Another good look at the big crane. Much taller than CPP. Can't tell which pad is going to be used for the tower crane. The one on the east looks more likely. The West side pad looks like maybe a smaller crane will go there? Strange that it's set up like a circle.

I previously wagered two tower cranes, and I stand by that.
