United has no maintenance facility at Eppley. This would be a "new" facility in that sense, but it doesn't necessarily mean a new building. STS currently handles line maintenance for airlines at Eppley and their facility is basically a small warehouse near the cargo area. Depending on how extensive United wants to get, and the fact they're hiring here already, my guess is a similar parts warehouse type operation probably in the exact same spot with a couple of mechanics on call 24/7. It could potentially end up being larger though we'll see.

At the very least, I take this is a good sign they continue sending mainline aircraft through here at a significant rate if they've decided it is worth it to in house minor maintenance here.

From their website:
Reynolds Logistics are the UK and Irish leader in metered deliveries of lubricants, alongside significant presence in Aviation and Ground Fuels distribution including LNG.

Reynolds Logistics are well known by many major oil companies as a specialist supplier of aviation bridging services from terminal to airport to plane. We can offer a bridging service which will collect and deliver from any location across the United Kingdom and Ireland to any size airport or private airfield.
There are some other organizations in the USA using the Reynolds Logistics moniker, but they all seem like trucking companies from what I can tell. If it is the UK based company, I can't find anything about a possible US expansion.

I'm pretty confident it isn't that company. They appear to only have operations in England/Ireland. There is a separate company that has been taking over staffing and operations for UPS logistics at various airports as well as sometimes competing directly with UPS at airports.

This was for a job posting at the Portland airport
Reynolds Logistics is a subcontractor for a division of UPS called UPS Supply Chain Solutions. In various markets this division asks us to fill certain permanent job roles. In Portland we are looking for a customer service air cargo operations agent.

This person will be doing a lot of internal tracking and tracing within the UPS system to ensure our customers shipments arrive on time. These shipments arrive(and depart) the Portland area on aircraft, trucks and cargo ships. You will be involved in each of these modes of transport and will interact with our offices world wide to meet the customers expectations.

KETV had a 6 p.m. throw away story about how the airport is busy with the college world series. Twice in the story though they strongly hinted the airport would have an announcement in the coming weeks. Hopefully we'll see some renderings then.

May numbers should be out next week, but OMA is off to a strong start in the first 4 months of 2023, with 1,529,404 passengers through April.

My way too early forecast, based on the numbers to day is an end of year passenger load of 5,238,225.

I wouldn't expect them to stay at a 15-16% increase over 2022 numbers from June to Aug, but you never know. Last year June was a 7% increase over 2021, July was a 1.2% increase and Aug was an 8.5% increase.

The terminal expansion project at Eppley made a list of 5 projects in Omaha that are expected to have the biggest impact on Omaha's growth and development in this week's Grow Omaha report.

Eppley was #5 behind UNMC's Project NExT, the Omaha Streetcar, the Mutual Tower and the redeveloped Gene Leahy Mall and Riverfront Parks.

Interesting, I'd drop the Mutual Tower to 5, even though the aesthetic benefits it brings are the most visible.

I would put the streetcar as number 1. $300 million cost to bring 3 billion in investment is very significant. This only creates more excitement and development to the area. I love to see Leavenworth and Cuming be the next corridor to repeat a similar process. Upgraded transit =investment and growth!

As for the airport...I think we will be more excited once they reveal the full plans. A canopy over the drop off zone and combined terminals is already a massive upgrade.

Not Eppley terminal renderings, but renderings for the new DSM terminal were released recently:

So I'd imagine we'd get something similar in style and quality to this. I'd bet it'll resemble the rental car facility.

I don't see anything about Reynolds on the agenda for June or for that matter April or May.
I do see an item relating to a supplemental agreement #21 with Delta. I'm curious what that is. Maybe they want to build a hub in Omaha? International flights? That would make heads on the KC board explode. They're whining that if St. Louis gets one and Indianapolis gets one then they should too. Doubtful about OMA getting an overseas flight but hey, why not?

A Delta hub in OMA would be welcome but highly unlikely. With MSP and DTW as their primary Midwest hubs there is no need to build one in OMA. I do think it could be an agreement for one or a variety of things such as more flights, a lounge and/or hiring mainline employees. Until the reason for the agreement is made public I'd take things with a grain of salt.

Not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but the Lincoln Airport web site has a link to flight arrival departure status. Most airport web sites do and it's handy. Anyway, the LNK site arrival departure status link is "powered" by OAG, Official Airline Guide, a company that used to print a schedule guide for every airport and is now online. It's always been the airline/airport geek favorite. The problem for LNK is that the Red Way flights are technically charters and thus not "powered" by OAG, thus those who choose to fly Red Way can't see their status on the LNK web site. I messaged LNK on facebook messenger suggesting that maybe they should "power" their flight status info some other way. No response, no change.
I guess it's not a big deal.

see, now that is a sharp looking airport. Not huge, not super fancy but looks clean and modern, and open. I hope that Omaha does something comparable, especially with the higher ceilings.

May numbers are out. Month to date up 10%. Of note is United up 29%. Delta down 1%, American up about 5%, Southwest up 9.9%. The rest are negligible.
On track to do about 4.8 million or so. All things being equal could be closer to 5 million.

If the numbers continue to hold, I currently have an estimate of about 5,182,267.

We'll see how the summer goes. March, May-Aug and Oct have traditionally been the months with the most traffic through Eppley.

Weird. Allegiant already serves LA, Vegas and Phoenix. WHO should fact check. Or maybe hire a different intern to research stories.

Odd blurb all around because the second sentence's source as it states is literally an Eppley tweet about the inaugural Austin flight. That doesn't give me high confidence that they have any inside information on the last sentence. And like Bob said they're already flying to some of those places.

The other odd part to me is who is publishing it. That is a station in Des Moines. Maybe they know something that we don't having a crew base there? I can't imagine them having much success flying to Chicago when Southwest is flying it 5 times today.

Eppley just launched their new terminal website. So far it is just about the canopy project, but they do have some preliminary renderings of the terminal drive. As well as potentially the new terminal facade. They note the renderings (presumably the terminal part, are preliminary and subject to change.)

Saw this as well on Twitter and you beat me to posting it.

Interesting potential renderings for the new terminal. I wonder if some of the new design is hindered by them holding onto the skywalks. At first blush, if this is one of the designs...it is a tad underwhelming.

I wonder what the thought was building a several million dollar pergola prior to the terminal revamp (I mean we've gone how many decades without covered drop-off/pick-up lanes so what's anothet 3-5 years?) versus having a canopy come off the new terminal like a large overhang? Surely it be feasible from an engineering perspective, but maybe cost prohibitive?

I don't know...I'm wait and see right now, but it kind of looks like a patchwork of random thoughts are just being thrown together that won't have a nice aesthetic flow.

Image from Google maps (noted as 2019) attached.

The rendering of the canopy is pretty much the same. If you zoom in you see the current overhangs are gone, but otherwise some new windows, maybe a square glass entry point and the rest of the building looks the same. Please don't just polish a turd.

I guess I am confused, this isn't a pergola, although it looks similar to one....it is covered in glass on the top to cover the area from the elements.

Also the cost of this phase is $65 Million...that seems like a lot for just that.

I called it a pergola out of spite. It's a glass canopy and apparently the $65M also includes an additional car lane and a reconstruction of the roadway overall.

The turd is being polished and expanded. KC & DM got/get new terminals. OMA gets a single security checkpoint, upstairs ticket/check in counters, a single file gate arrangement, one place for food post security, etc.

Of course, there haven't been new renderings and until there is a ribbon cutting the whole thing could change.

1-Look at the DSM renderings compared to this. I can't believe all that old ugly brick isn't going away, floors be raised etc etc. I assumed the skywalks would be replaced with new ones that would go straight instead of angling down when the new terminal is created with much higher floor to floor, apparently that isn't the case. We've been waiting 30 years for a new terminal design at Eppley, this is the most underwhelming thing I've ever seen. So disappointed, this is the first impression to the state of Nebraska for most travelers, this is a once in a lifetime chance to make it amazing. The City of Omaha should be up in arms over this as well as the citizens of the metro.

2-Also, would love to see the bid tab on this. Seems super expensive as well. They keep everything secret by not posting but the minimum to the website, monthly board agendas but that's it, no agreements, nothing posted, what are they trying to hide? Did the airport just give it to Hawkins or did they publicly bid the work like a typical public infrastructure project? If it wasn't publicly bid, I bet there is a 30% premium being paid. I'm in the industry and know this stuff very well for my career.

3-The City of Des Moines and many many private businesses and partnerships had huge impact the Des Moines terminal design. The DSM airport even went around and got all the cities in the metro to contribute funds to the airport based off population and use and had huge success! Did any of this happen in Omaha, just feel like it's all been crickets compared to

End Rant....just very disappointing for Omaha and future generations.

From the OMA twitter feed and facebook page:

"This is the first component of Build OMA, a needs-based development program based on our Master Plan that will provide an improved airport experience for travelers for years to come. "

The canopy project and adding a lane or two is needs based? $65M for a hat? THAT is the most crying need? Dont get me wrong. I think all airports should have roofs over the arrivals and departures lanes. On the other hand, in the summer what's the glass going to do to the sun? Magnify it?

I don’t think the renderings as presented are indicative of what the airport redesign as a whole will be, rather just part of the initial phases of the rebuild. I’d be surprised if the brick and all is there to stay.

I'm not convinced the renderings are anything more than what the canopy is intended to look like. There isn't any thing to indicate who designed the canopy and or what stage it was designed at. It is quite possible to me it wasn't Corgan (who is the architect for the terminal). We know Holder, the construction contractor on the terminal isn't doing this... The disclaimer on the website is there for a reason. But yes this over-reaction to a terminal design when these likely aren't reflective of said terminal design is quite entertaining.

That said, I wouldn't necessary be surprised if that brick is there to stay. That closest wall on the South side of the terminal doesn't change in footprint on renderings and is ultimately going to be airport authority offices. They may not want to continue the windows there. Then your choice is to over lay the brick with some other material or just roll with it. Same thing with the control tower. We know it isn't moving. So again do you keep the brick or overlay something?

Fundamentally there are likely going to be some limitations on what can be done exterior wise too with trying to keep a terminal going at the same time during the entire construction.
