Huskers make top five for 2024 Miami defender

Nebraska made the top five for a 2024 defensive lineman from Miami on Monday. Columbus (Fla.) defensive lineman Daylen Russell announced a top five of Louisville, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska and UCF. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Russell was offered by Nebraska assistant Terrance Knighton back in December, and is coming off a weekend visit to Miami.

Russell, who is currently unrated by 247Sports, has yet to visit Nebraska.

Huskers offer 2024 Virginia speedster Peyton Lewis

Nebraska football has placed an emphasis on speed, and made an offer on Saturday to one of the fastest running backs on the East Coast. The Huskers offered 2024 Salem (Va.) running back Peyton Lewis, a track and football standout that has seen his football recruiting profile grow in recent weeks. Nebraska joined Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia and others who have offered the 6-foot-1, 190-pound back. As a junior, Lewis was named first team All-State at running back and kick returner, he was also named on the second team All-State at punt returner. Lewis posted indoor track highlights in recent weeks, running a 6.39 in the 55 meter dash. Lewis is currently unrated by 247Sports and in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Nebraska Football: Why Dylan Raiola Would Be the Biggest Recruiting Win in a Generation
Every major FBS program is after the No. 1 prospect in the 2024 class but Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers are extra motivated.

The latest Nebraska football head coach refuses to let his Cornhuskers dip from the news cycle. Not three months have passed since his hiring and Matt Rhule continues to grind in a manner only seen by successful door-to-door vacuum salespeople. After turning a miserable recruiting class into an enviable haul, he wears out phone batteries in an ever-continuing quest to bring players into the fold. To be "One of Us." And while it may sound like a heaping helping of hyperbole, he's officially fully focused on easily the biggest recruiting battle Nebraska has been a part of in decades: jockeying for the services of one Dylan Raiola. A consensus No. 1 overall prospect — pick a recruiting service, it doesn't matter which — he was an Ohio State pledge from May of last year until Dec. 17, 2022. Rhule was introduced in his new role on Nov. 26. Make of that what you will.

After moving on from Scott Frost and bringing in a renowned college football program reviver, the Huskers became a viable option for countless new prospects. There was suddenly a résumé comprehensive enough to attract those like Raiola, and Rhule isn't coming alone to the interview dressed to impress. In a Nick Sabanesque move, almost all of Nebraska's staff stopped by to see Raiola in late January. Speaking of credentials, the Big Red signed Tom Lemming's No. 3 college recruit in early 1992. This is when names of the newest roster members were relegated to deep in the sports page, met with shrugs and the occasional "We'll see what he can do." Tommie Frazier worked out well in hindsight. What Frazier would've accomplished in the NFL, we never found out. But Raiola plays in systems affording him comparisons to two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, and not just because of appearance.

Except: The 48 hours before a home game in August or September 1-2 through the 48 hours after the conclusion of the game is considered a quiet period
September 1 – November 26, 2022: Quiet period
September, October and November: College coaches can conduct evaluations during 42 days of their choosing (or 54 for Service Academies); coaches are not allowed to visit an athlete’s school on more than one calendar day during this time.

Coaches can take 168 evaluation days (or 216 for U.S. service academies). An authorized recruiter can use one evaluation day to assess a recruit’s athletic ability. Then, they can use another evaluation day to assess the recruit’s academic qualifications. Coaches/recruiters can do both assessments on the same day, and then take a second evaluation day to evaluate athletic ability again if they choose.
The days in April/May that are not designated as evaluation days are considered part of the quiet period.
June 1 – July 31, 2023: Quiet period
July 25-31, 2023: Official visits may not be provided to high school juniors

Nebraska nabs the first commitment in 2024 class, four-star ATH Roger Gradney

Roger Gradney is the first recruit to commit to Matt Rhule and his staff for the 2024 class. The four-star athlete from Altair (Texas) Rice Consolidated picked up an offer from Nebraska on Sunday. The state of Texas is going to be big for Matt Rhule and his staff in 2024. The Huskers spent a lot of time recruiting the Lone Star State in January, which is paying off already. Gradney, a four-star recruit according to On3 and the No. 195th player overall nationally, is the first commitment for Nebraska in the 2024 class. Gradney is rated as an athlete and ranked the No. 21st athlete in the country and the No. 37th best player in the state of Texas.

Miami (Fla.) Christopher Columbus High School three-star linebacker Willis McGahee IV announced that he has committed to Nebraska. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is the No. 413 overall prospect and No. 43 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 59 player in Florida.

TE Ian Flynt from Texas commits to Nebraska

Katy (Texas) Taylor tight end Ian Flynt has been trending to Nebraska for a while now. The three-star tight end has taken multiple visits to Nebraska since picking up an offer and has close ties to the school. Flynt is rated as the No. 29 tight end in the nation and the No. 91 player in the state of Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Nebraska secures commitment from Husker legacy, ATH Keelan Smith

Nebraska is not only the family school for Keelan Smith, it’s also the family football program. Smith, from Liberty (Mo.) Liberty North, is the son of former Husker and NFL great Neil Smith, and is going to Lincoln to try and surpass his father’s legacy at Nebraska.

Nebraska made its ninth in-state offer Thursday to Omaha Westside athlete Teddy Rezac. The 6-foot-3 1/2, 185-pound Rezac is listed as an athlete, but many project him to be an outside linebacker at the next level. It was Rezac’s fourth Power Five offer as the Huskers join Notre Dame, Boston College and Missouri.

Nebraska legacy, five-star QB target Dylan Raiola commits to Georgia

Dylan Raiola's Nebraska recruitment is over and done with. The five-star quarterback and No. 1 overall player in the country has committed to Georgia. He announced the decision on Instagram and Twitter on Monday morning. Nebraska made a strong, consistent all-out effort to land Raiola, but he will continue his extremely bright career in the SEC, choosing the Bulldogs over the Huskers, USC and Oregon among others.

When the Huskers were recruiting Dylan Raiola this spring, Daniel Kaelin committed to Missouri. The Bellevue West quarterback is the best player in the state at the position and nationally he’s considered a top-25 recruit according to 247 Sports. The type of in-state player Nebraska wants to keep here, but the pursuit of Raiola complicated the situation.

Raiola committed to Georgia on Monday, Tuesday Kaelin to Nebraska was essentially a done deal. He decommited from Missouri and quickly announced Nebraska would be his new college home. Kaelin grew up rooting for the Huskers and now he will see it from the inside. This could help recruiting as well, Dae’vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris are two of the top four players in the state in the 2024 class, they both happen to catch balls from Kaelin at Bellevue West.

Bellevue West's Kaelin talks decision to switch commitment from Mizzou to Nebraska

OMAHA (KMTV) — Husker football has a new quarterback in its 2024 class, and he’s from Bellevue West. On Friday, junior Danny Kaelin decommitted from Missouri.

The next day, he announced he’s taking his talents to Lincoln to join Matt Rhule’s squad.

“Being able to stay home, knowing that I’ll have my support system, you know coaches that I’ve grown up with,” Kaelin said. “Obviously my mom and my family (will be) nearby kind of just to keep me grounded.” He said there’s no bad blood between him and the Mizzou staff, but it was a change he knew he needed to make.

Kaelin has lived in Nebraska since he was eight and has watched Husker football since then.

Nebraska lands four-star CB Mario Buford from DeSoto

Mario Buford was one of nine official visitors for the first weekend in June for Nebraska and is committing ahead of two scheduled official visits to Big Ten schools. The four-star cornerback from DeSoto (Texas) will join his brother on the team, Marques Buford, and in the defensive secondary at Nebraska in January after he graduates high school at mid-term.

Nebraska adds 2024 punter commit from legacy Kamdyn Koch

Nebraska has added another specialist recruit under Matt Rhule. On Sunday, Westminster (M.D.) Winter Mills punter Kamdyn Koch announced his commitment to Nebraska on Instagram.

Koch is the son of former Husker punting great Sam Koch, who played at NU from 2002-05 and started for the Baltimore Ravens for 16 seasons. He retired from the NFL in May of 2022.

Nebraska lands DB Braylen Prude following official visit to Lincoln

The Nebraska staff was in Houston for a satellite camp, and one of the standouts from that camp was Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek defensive back, Braylen Prude. Prude is a long, rangy safety that could add size to his 6-foot-5 frame and move down to the second level. The Huskers offered Prude following the camp, and Prude has committed to Nebraska following his official visit.

Nebraska has landed 6-foot-5 and 190-pound defensive back Braylen Prude in the 2024 class. Prude is the 10th commitment in the class overall and is the fifth commitment from the state of Texas already for Matt Rhule. He joins Mario Buford and Roger Gradney as the other commitments in the class that are projected to play in the secondary. Prude likely figures into the free safety, post safety, and possibly even the rover positions early in his career at Nebraska.

Nebraska football picks up a commitment from Iowa offensive lineman Jake Peters.

Nebraska football added to its 2024 recruiting class on Sunday morning, picking up a commitment from Cedar Falls (Iowa) offensive lineman Jake Peters. The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Peters announced his commitment in a social media post following his official visit to Nebraska. Peters had earned his offer at Nebraska’s camp last week and returned this week for an official visit. Peters, who is being looked at as an interior offensive lineman by Nebraska, holds an overall rating of 83 according to 247Sports. He chose the Huskers over offers from Air Force, Army, Northern Iowa, Northern Illinois and others.

Nebraska lands Centennial State IOL, Landen Davidson after very quick process

Things moved fast for Bloomfield (Colo.) offensive lineman Landen Davidson. The 6-foot-4 and 295-pound road grader picked up an offer from Nebraska following a camp performance a week ago. This past weekend, Davidson took an official visit to Nebraska. Davidson saw everything that he needed to make a commitment to the Huskers to become the third offensive lineman in the class for Matt Rhule.

Nebraska adds commit from Omaha North DB Donovan Jones

Nebraska added a third in-state player to its 2024 recruiting class. Omaha North defensive back Donovan Jones officially announced his commitment to the Huskers after taking an official visit to Lincoln this week. Jones was offered by Nebraska this past Saturday after a strong showing at NU’s Friday Night Lights Camp. That same night, he earned an offer from Wyoming at the camp. Matt Rhule and the Husker staff followed with an offer the next morning.
