Anyone else think it was lame that they didn't have the full CWS opening ceremonies with fans and fireworks this year. I really think that is a cool and free spectacle. I am sure the players love it too.

Yeah I completely agree. When my boys were younger we'd take them. Kind of a cool free event for families, we did it every year. Making it free kind of also opened up the CWS to those that might be on a tight budget.

I loved it too, great way to get in especially since they no longer have GA seats as well. I feel like they keep going more corporate and away from what makes the event a little more special.

On another sidenote, the field looks amazing on tv. I always thought the news was out of their mind when they would always give such praise to Jesse Cueves for the turf at Rosenblatt. There were bare spots everywhere and absolutely no design.

This is one huge area, the current staff and grounds crew should be commended for!

Oral Roberts scored four runs in the ninth inning to take the lead 6-5.

Three singles and a throwing error led Mac McCroskey to score the first run of the inning. When McCroskey scored, two runners remained on base with one out. Two batters later, Blaze Brothers hit a three-run home run to give Oral Roberts a 6-5 advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth.

I watched Florida come back and beat Virginia. That was incredible, not to mention improbable. So I guess TCU and Virginia will meet in an elimination game tomorrow?

So I was looking at going to at least one game this time around and apparently things have changed with the CWS. I haven't been since 2019 and the most striking change is clearly the ticket prices. I guess I can no longer just buy a 100 dollar book of 10 GAs at Hy Vee and go on a 3 day game binge like I'm used to. A quick look at the CWS site and it appears tickets are going anywhere from 10 to 30 bucks for GA depending on the game. Also, there are no longer paper tickets? Everything has to be on your phone unless you buy them at the stadium?....at least that is what I've heard. Can't say I'm overly thrilled with that. Also, cash is no longer accepted for any purchases in the stadium? Hope the series continues to do well and I'm sure it will but I'm also guessing my days of going to 4 - 5 games a year are probably over.

Unfortunately it is far from just the CWS that has implemented many of these policies.

I personally prefer the new system, because it guarantees a seat, right? The old system with fans queueing up outside the stadium until the 6th inning was far from ideal.

Didn’t the prices jump from a per ticket cost from what they were when the outfield was GA?

I agree it’s better to have assigned seats though.

Going in the opposite direction, in the last couple years the Chasers have reintroduced ticket vouchers in books that can be used at any games. They used to do this at Rosenblatt at the Royals.

Unfortunately on cash and no paper tickets that seems to be headed as the standard everywhere. Last year went to a Rays game in Tampa. Decided to try and avoid the Ticketmaster fees (or whoever ran their online sales) and buy out tickets at the stadium from the ticket windows. They don’t even have those anymore. I had to buy my tickets on my phone right at the stadium and pay the fees anyway…..

Interesting. So the days of lines wrapping outside are now more? Seems like attendance is still the same so how does guaranteeing a seat for everybody work with the bleachers? Are they actually numbered so it's like there really is no GA? I know in the past they just let however many people in until they started going one in/one out to ensure they were in compliance with fire code. I know I just personally prefer to walk around the concourse anyway for half a game and watch it from all vantage points. Do you feel like any of this has changed game vibe?

TCU got just enough to edge past the Cavaliers 4-3 to stay alive in the MCWS. Both teams entered today's matchup after dropping their first games in Omaha to late rallies (both lost 6-5). TCU broke the 1-1 tie in the third inning with a grounder that scored Karson Bowen. Three innings later, Anthony Silva advanced to home off a Elijah Nunez single. In the seventh, Ethan Anderson smacked a leadoff shot 387 feet over the wall to get the Cavaliers within one.

Florida holds off Oral Roberts 5-4

Florida held off Oral Roberts 5-4 in the Men's College World Series. The Gators didn't score after the fifth inning, but strong pitching held off the Golden Eagles down the stretch. Oral Roberts rallied late adding a run in the ninth inning to cut the deficit to one run, but it wasn't enough to continue its Cinderella magic as Cade Fisher, a Florida freshman closed the game.

Cashless society = Big Brother, Orwellian

That makes me VERY nervous. Almost to the point of feeling sick to my stomach. That's all I'm going to say about it.

Tennessee 6
8 ) Stanford 4

At the end of the fourth inning, Stanford led Tennessee 4-0 looking to escape elimination. Then the Vols came alive.

The Volunteers notched four runs in the fifth to tie it and another two in the seventh to send the Cardinal home. It was a balanced attack for Tennessee with six different players scoring each run. Christian Moore led the team with two RBI. When the Vols needed an answer after giving up four runs in three innings — Chase Burns stepped in the fourth inning and pitched six straight innings. Burns finished the afternoon with nine strikeouts and just two hits.

Next, Tennessee moves on and will face the loser of the Wake Forest vs. LSU game.

Borrowing a page from the Eppley thread, I don't recall that there an attendance threshold was ever mentioned to trigger expansion of The Chuck to its full 35k capacity. Game 8 attendance yesterday was 24,958, we're averaging a record attendance of 24,507/game in 2023, and ~365k attendance for the 3rd year in a row assuming 15 games in this year's CWS. Technically, The Chuck's seating capacity is 24k so average attendance is now 500 people/game over capacity.

Soooo, when does talk begin about expansion? Any bets on holding off and using it as a carrot for the next contract negotiation in the 2030s?

It had been several years since I last attended a CWS game, but a friend convinced me to go this year. Of course we had a blast despite the broiling heat. The whole neighborhood atmosphere is one big party, where 99% of the patrons are in an exceedingly good mood. That alone makes it worth going there.
By walking 6 blocks we were able to park for absolutely zero cost, on the street. We had a super lunch at the Mattress Factory, walked around some of the giant tents housing food and assorted libations, got right in to the stadium (the electronic tickets worked fine), and was reminded of how easy it is to purchase all sorts of food and beverages at frankly reasonable prices (less than at the airport, in any event, and much better quality).
The stadium remains beautiful as always. During down time in the game we could watch the 3 cranes moving about at the Mutual of Omaha construction site. Next year we will be able to see the new building taking shape, I hope.
This event is unquestionably the best thing that happens in Omaha during the course of each year!
