maybe? I'm no expert so I took to google, and it seems like a lot of the mechanical is in basement levels due to space constraints above. Since Mutual gets the whole block, maybe they were able to move some of this into space occupied by parking, which was probably a cost saving thing? I could be all wrong on it, but seems like that's maybe the main difference?

They also have that huge façade on top to hide mechanicals.

Also, I wonder if adding a basement and the extra ramp to get both up and down from ground level ended up wasting too many parking stalls.

Yeah I can imagine having the parking garage in the equation means they just have all of the basic mechanical and utilities up on top of that rather in a basement.

I'm not involved in the project, but I believe there will be a partial basement for this building. However, the water table in this area is rather high which makes multiple levels of basements impractical as they would require continuous dewatering.

I count 11 tower crane section for the east (yellow) crane and the crane cab. In the east lot there are more parts for the tower crane arm on the ground.

I’ve heard that once we get past the 4th of July holiday, we’ll begin to see construction go above ground/vertical…

I still see the initial section of the tower cranes, still we should see the tower cranes up, though they are probably not as high of a priority as of the moment, as the mobile cranes are sufficient for foundation tasks.

Nevermind, crane is going vertical, nice!

I also saw a truck with emergency lights inside the compound at night, are they working at night to get the tower crane setup?

One more of the original 11 sections left to go. It's hooked up to the crane Cables but still on the ground. The initial height of this tower crane should equal the UP hq.

Wow ! I was just downtown this morning a little before noon, and nothing was happening. Now this crane is going vertical ! This is the most exciting day so far, I think from here on out it's going to get real exciting month by month seeing this huge tower become a reality and pushing Omaha's skyline to a new level. Thanks for the excellent pics .

I just peeked out the window from work. All the tower sections are up and the cab is placed. No boom sections yet.

The second tower crane will probably be going up in the next week or two. They always install them on the weekends.

I was talking to one of the photographers in the art gallery that has taken several pictures of the before GLM and after GLM renovation and the skyline.
I brought the topic of the Mutual of Omaha tower and he told me that, the Omaha skyline will be ruined... He was an older gentleman and an older woman about his age also chimed in that the construction across the street from where she is at is kind of loud...

Most people I meet are happy about the MoO but once in a while I will come across an individual that will opposed to the project.

Honestly, I just see that they are not familiar with all the pieces being laid out to continue our momentum to make Omaha great again. And that beautiful glass tower is part of it.

Unfortunately there will always be people who hate and complain about change - even if it’s obvious it’s for the better.

The skyline will be ruined? Lol, honestly get real. What a silly statement. It will be different and as a photographer, you may need to find new angles to shoot from - but isn’t that part of the fun/challenge of being a photographer is trying new shots from new angles and being creative instead just taking the same old shots?

At one point in time, the original Mutual tower didn't exist. Nor did FNBO, or Woodmen.

I don't understand people that get set in their ways on things like this - it's not like they tore down an amazing piece of architecture that was being utilized to its fullest extent.

Hopefully this "older" gentleman didn't have a cell phone or a car with air conditioning. It would be a pity to take advantage of any advancements that have been made over the past several decades.

Thanks!

Exactly. As a photographer, I would have preferred the tower built somewhere between the current Police HQ and the courthouse. This has nothing to do with function, purely aesthetics. It would be nice to have the 3 tallest buildings more in a line.

With mutual going on the library site, it will block the skyline view from the classic Gene Leahy Mall Shot, but you should still see all 3 from all the other angles. It will be no different than how the FNB blocks the woodman from Gallup/Riverfront Place.

But yes, I am looking forward to finding new angles when its done.
