Just today, as I walked by...

They took down the chain-link part of the fence, closed sidewalks, and are moving in concrete barriers.

I know this expansion was already announced, but the development just keeps on continuing for downtown! Hopefully this keeps happening in the next few years with the streetcar.

Name another city in the Midwest that has had this much development occurring or about to occur in their downtown in the past 2-3 years...I'll wait :)

Lincoln Yards in Chicago is a six billion dollar development that's in progress. I can add more Chicago developments if 6B isn't enough. That was just the first city I googled.

That's not too hard for a city the size of Chicago...I'm pretty sure he meant mid size cities.

They did not specify. We're getting off topic but KC's airport was 1.5 billion, St Louis riverfront is planned for 1.5 billion.

Actually, he did.....So, not off topic, I don't think 'a' airport or a 'planned' development count

Haha, since I wasn't specific, I did mean in the downtown and basically any city between Chicago and Denver. I would say of any mid-size city KC probably has the most going on with the streetcar and all the development that it brings. Hopefully we get the same once ours is up and running.

I am headed to Madison and Milwaukee in a few weeks and sure they always have some good mid-rise buildings under construction, but nothing as changing as our parks, music venues, high-rise have/will bring.

You win the internet for today. Good job. My point was that there is a lot of development happening in a bunch of cities, not just Omaha. It's exciting for us because we can literally see it with our own eyes, but it's cool to travel to other cities (like skinz is doing) and see their progress as well. KC is going through a pretty big evolution and it's pretty amazing. St Louis riverfront project is also a massive project.
I just don't want people to think that we (Omahan's and CB'ers) are some kind of special people since we have many exciting (and a few not-so-exciting) projects going on. It's good to be proud of our city, but let's not put others down because we out spent them or out built them. We should be celebrating our neighbors as well.

Yes, I win because I can read and comprehend. Good redirection of generalities though.

Thanks for providing this photo update. I've spent a lot of time downtown the last couple weeks and completely forgot to look out for this one. Granted not much is happening yet, so it's easy to miss. Nonetheless, it will be nice to see another project flanking the GLM in the next year or so.

And now the trees are down. It's nice to get a bonus view of another project when peeking at the riverfront camera for Mutual updates.

OPA announced the name of the expansion will be the "Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement"
As site preparation commences on the second phase of O-pa’s Campus Expansion, we are thrilled to announce that our newest venue will be named the “Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement” in recognition of a principal gift from Tenaska. It’s an honor to partner with this Omaha-founded and based leading company that both understands and supports arts education and engagement programs for the community.

Located next to the Holland Center, the Tenaska Center for Arts Engagement will offer additional rehearsal, workshop and classroom spaces to accommodate our expanding education and community engagement programs, which already serve more than 100,000 students, teachers and community members each year.

A shade taller than the Holland on the Douglas side. That should look nice from the park.

oh, I didn't mean the name. I just meant that someone posted something other than 'ugly grain elevator' stuff.

But it's a fitting name, as JDJase referenced above. Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread

Speak for yourself. I was hoping it was going to be called Grain Elevator Performing Arts Center, to memorialize those silos and connect our past to our future.

Since this is a completely different structure than the Holland Performing Arts Center, shouldn’t it have its own unique thread?

I had to go back and look at the renderings. Guess I didn't realize that the project doesn't take up that much of the green space. For some reason, I was thinking that the building would go close to or touch the buildings to the east.

That is going to be nice to have yet another tower crane downtown.

As a close neighbor I am happy they are leaving some of the green space. Between that and the new park this makes these couple of blocks really pretty!

Thanks for the update. That looks like it might just be the crane to assemble the tower crane, but I could be wrong.

Architecturally this building may not be as impressive to me (reminds me of the Des Moines downtown library) maybe it will look better than the renders.

I do love the fact that this building will hold cultural enrichment.

Looks like we got ourselves some crane action, both from the Holland Center and the MoO

I had to go back and look at the renderings. Can't say that I like that wall on the first floor. Thankfully the rest is glass, and this is the back of the building, but that looks terrible.
