Remember when people were angry/upset that the diner was closing and they were going to replace it with a hotel?
I was not one of them. When the diner closed, I was actually amazed it was even open. It always seemed dead to me.
And that was certainly a wasted lot to my eye.
I wish they could have incorporated the diner into the design or something like previously mentioned (when I worked in the Landmark building, quite a few people would go over to get breakfast in the morning, but the biggest waste of space was the parking and them not being open for dinner, or at least I don't think they were)
This building is a huge upgrade and fits in very well. Like others have said, looks like it was there all along.

I agree with everything you said. I wish I had gone to it. It always reminded me of the diner Rob Lowe buys in the original About Last Night.
Speaking of fitting in, as you said the Moxy fits in and looks like it's always been there. As time goes on I feel the opposite about the Hyatt Place Hotel nearby. It looks like they tried but the more I see it, the more it sticks out.
I feel like they could rip the Hyatt down and build a much better hotel on that lot. A 5 story hotel above a 6 story garage seems like they bent over backwards to make the hotel extra car friendly.
But if any hotel was to be demolished besides the double tree my vote would be the giant suburban style (size of 2 city blocks) Embassy Suites hotel on 10th, it creates this giant dead zone on the east side of 10th.
I seemed to have missed it but how long has this build taken? It seemed like an eternity. I absolutely love the finished product though. It fits right in.

Looking back on this thread, we first started hearing about this in 2018.

But construction didn't really start until 2019 and they the pause they took during covid.

It's still a little more than 1 floor per year to get this built! (poundSign)Winning
Drove by today. They are still working on this, maybe they are short staffed like nearly everyone else. This has been one of if not Omaha's slowest project. Glad not every Omaha project takes this long, yes they did have a Pandemic to deal with. So So slow..
Apparently, the developer sold this already. I didn't think they were a merchant builder, but this has obviously been a long ordeal, maybe that influenced the decision.

With construction wrapping up, they have their construction loan that will need to be refinanced to a permanent. With rates the way they are, it's likely that it makes financial sense to sell.

The buyer is dealing with the same rate environment taking it to perm debt on not only an unstabilized but an undelivered asset. I'll be interested to see what it ended up selling for, wouldn't be totally shocked if the developer took a loss here
Had some friends stay here last weekend... Overall they were very happy with their stay. Fun atmosphere, bar in the lobby was great. As long as you're expecting a room on the smaller side (as is the standard with Moxy) it was very nice...
And they're frequent travelers that stay in hotels upscale hotels around the world regularly, so if they give it their seal of approval, I trust it.
